   Love it!

   I’ve had my Echo Spot a week or so now, and love it! That being said, there are a couple things i wish Amazon would do to make it better. First of all, there are several options to display the time, and a few of them are, shall we say, creative, but not all that functional in my opinion. There is one with big block letters, but the lines are quite thin….I wish they had one with the large block letters with thicker lines…for those of us near sighted people for use as a bed side clock.Also, the nighttime setting shows orange letters, which works well for night time….but, I’d actually like to be able to adjust the colors to other available colors….like blue in my case.Anyway, I’m sure these changes could be done with a software update easily enough. Perhaps as the product matures, they will make these changes and more.

   IMPRESSED BUT NOT IMPRESSIVE

   So far this new Echo Spot is ok, a few things are annoying, but overall I like it. 1st thing I do not like are the buttons on top. In the middle of the night or even just regular use, they are not easy to find personally, I would have made them with feedback raised to where you can feel them, they are flush with the unit itself which makes it difficult to find them by reaching over. 2nd, I need the radio on when I sleep, I like listening to music, I was able to find my local radio station and when I ask to play it plays, but I have noticed sometimes it stops playing and I have to ask Alexa to play 107.3 in the middle of the night. It’s a radio station, it should not cut off. 3rd the touch screen for menu is seriously lacky I have to keep touching it over n over before it pops up, but over all happy.

   Animation cannot be disabled

   Just received this this morning. While destined for my nightstand it’s currently sitting on my desk and I’m listening to BBC radio on it. Seems that there’s no way to disable the animation when music / radio is playing. It’s *extremely* annoying. The name of the radio station constantly scrolls and an animation of the audio flickers away in the background. I just want to revert to the clock while it’s playing. You can actually see for yourself in the product page which proudly shows a scrolling song name and audio animation.EDIT: Discovered you can say ‘Alexa home’ and it will hide the music player. I still don’t like the little icon showing music is playing but it’s much more tolerable for now.Amazon: PLEASE add more options for customizability of the basic built in functionality, considering how different users may use it.Was also somewhat disappointed to see this doesn’t use a USB-C cable. I suppose it’s for constant power supply but it seems a bit ironic to see a sustainability statement for a device that comes with a proprietary power supply. But I suppose you’re not going to lose the cable.The viewing angle of the display quickly gets dim when viewing from the side. This may be a good thing on a nightstand to reduce light coming towards your pillow – and I can’t see it anyway until I’ve put my glasses on.Other than that it’s a nice upgrade from my old Echo, sounds good and trade in discounts can be applied to Prime Day sales prices too.

   Nice echo, but….

   I’m going to be harsh on the grading because I was using a 5th gen dot with clock before this. To keep this under 1000 words, I’ll just say the display is it’s strength and it’s weakness. Coming from a 5th gen dot with clock, this is a sideways move. This is maybe the better bedside clock, but the 5th gen is the better room clock. The display on the spot is kinda dim, especially if you’re not looking at it head on. At an angle it gets very dim and I have to increase the overall brightness to near max. The 5th gen dot you can easily read from across the room. That said, the display on the spot gives you some added features like being able to touch it do end calls or show you your daily activities.The audio quality I would rate the same as the 5th gen dot. You do lose the internal temperature sensor if that was something you use. I’d prefer to have it but not a deal killer.

   Almost perfect

   First thing is I really do like this product and I can honestly recommend it. Good sound. If you have two (one for each nightstand), you can pair them into a sound group for stereo music, if you like that kind of thing (I do). I wish the collection of clock faces was bigger, but I found one I like. The variety of colors is good too, though I wish I had more control and fine tuning of the various colors.What I do not like is the nighttime mode. The numbers change to a dim, dark orange/reddish font with fat numbers that kind of blend together when I’m not wearing reading glasses. Pretty much impossible for me to tell what the numbers are at night. Fortunately, you can turn off this nighttime mode, but then the numbers are somewhat bright and if you like to sleep in pitch dark, this might not work for you.

   Like!

   A few weeks ago we got the echo dot with a clock for our bedroom. My wife liked it so much that she wanted one for her office. I was disappointed to find that we couldn’t get the same echo Dot, so I thought we would try this new echo spot. It seems to work perfect and the screens all seem good (like the face and color choices) and the sound quality is great. Regarding other comments about the clock getting small when playing music, you can either swipe down on the screen and touch the home button or even easier you can just command Alexa to go to the home screen.I have recently started using our bedroom echo dot with routines to override my thermostat, which is on the first floor when the second floor is too hot. I understand why some people would be frustrated that the new echo spot is not have a temperature sensor, and that should be made very clear in the item listing so that people don’t order this and get frustrated. Other than that, we just started using it, and we love it!

   First Day of Use Impression…

   I’ve only had mine for 1 day, and am so relieved it is not a repeat of that awful Echo Show with its continual unwanted screen changes.The audio is improved and the available displays, though sorely limited in choices, are at least mostly devoid of unnecessary graphics and weird configurations.The other significant improvement over the Echo Show is that you adjust the settings with your iOS/Android device instead of having to wade through endless tiers of menus and submenus. While not as good as the previous iteration of Alexa using web access (another awful decision to do away with that), this is much better than having to poke around on the device itself to make changes to settings.While apparently everybody who writes software at Amazon must be under 26 or something, please give some consideration to those who can’t see 1/8th inch tall content from 8 feet away: create a few more screens where the alternating temperature/date display is bigger, and allow users to chose between alternating or picking one or the other as a constant secondary display. Hopefully this could be accomplished without reducing the size of the time of day display, it’s perfect how it is. If this happens, I can add a star.

   Helpful to stick to the routine!

   I wanted to buy a clock so I could stop using my phone as an alarm and saw this was on sale so I thought I would try it. I love this Alexa! I don’t have to fight with it to recognize my voice, it listens the first time. I connected it to my calendar and it announces what my schedule is for the day which is so helpful. I also like the lighting features, you can change the display settings and it turns darker when it is night time so it doesn’t hurt your eyes or keep you up all night. I also like that I can very easily connect my music to it from my phone. This was one of my best purchases in 2024!

   I love my new Echo Spot

   When one of my older Echo Dots stopped working I looked at Amazon to buy a new one. Then I saw that the Echo Spot was on sale cheaper than the Dot. I have read some reviews that don’t like the Echo Spot do you do some things that it couldn’t do. I have it on my bedside table. I use it for an alarm clock and also to turn my smart lights and switches on and off. In addition I get notification that someone is at the door on my Blink video doorbell. It doesn’t show a video who’s at the door, but I have an Echo Show 8 that I can see the video on as well as the Blink app on my phone. My husband liked it so much we bought another one to put in the room where we watch TV so we can see the time easily. I have had no issues with it so far. One more thing I think it’s cute looking.

    The less hated alarm clock

    Back in the 1980’s, I bought a very popular cube of a radio/alarm clock. Basically, I woke up to a radio station every morning! Then in 2011 I purchased an alarm clock that displayed the time on the bedroom ceiling which had the ill effect of keeping you awake once you woke up in the middle of the night wondering if you would go back to sleep! I disabled the projection and lived happily ever after! And then, having many of the Echo devices, I saw this alarm clock and decided to try it. Pros: nice display choices; Alexa commands; touch control on screen and device itself!; not a bad sounding speaker: Cons: I still don’t wake up looking any younger! Damn it!

    Better Than Expected With A Design Flaw

    I had two different versions previously. One was the version with a matrix display and that has worked very well for us. The other had an LCD screen and really, really stunk. It showed the time between showing ads and got unplugged within a few minutes.I worried that this one was going to be the same, just a lousy ad delivery system. It is much better than that.The sound is good. The display is clear and it displays the time and weather quite nicely. I found the night mode too dark to read.The design flaw is that they angled the display up several degrees. You see, LCD screens are somewhat directional so viewing them off-axis makes them appear dimmer and with less contrast from the background. If you use this as a clock and it is below the level of where you sit or sleep then the flaw will not be noticed. However, if you have it upon a mantle or table or you bed has you lower than the device, the display will appear dim and the background behind the lettering will glow. This is the case here. I used a wedge to angle it up so the display is nearly perpendicular to the ground and our viewing angle minimizes the dim display problem.It has never shown me an ad. I’ll chuck it out a window if it ever does. It performs its function as a clock very well without too much additional nonsense. The final weird thing is when you perform a function like changing lights or stopping music, the light or music screen remains on for a long time before switching back to the clock. I thought it was messed up at first but it just has an annoyingly long delay.

    Overall good, but has a few issues

    Overall, I do really like the look of this alarm clock. It’s come in handy to help me with waking up in the morning. However, there are a few problems I’ve run into using it.Firstly, if you have more than one alarm in your alarms on the app, the active alarm seems to ring for a second, then go silent. I fixed it by getting rid of the other alarms in my alexa app, but its not ideal.Also, I’ve asked Alexa to change an alarm through voice command once, but the next morning it did not go off at all. And when changing the alarm face, I had to unplug and plug back in to get it to change. So I’ve found setting the alarm in the Alexa app seems to be more reliable.Also, as a speaker, it is not really the best quality of sound, but I guess it gets the job done. The quality is more noticeable when the speaker is at a louder volume.Overall, it is a handy alarm clock, but does need some bug fixes with the firmware/software

    I like it

    I don’t have the older version so I can’t compare. I wish it had more ways to customize the Home Screen and that the routines can be programmed to last longer than 4 hours. That said I use 2 four hour ones for my Christian music to play at night. First I had a radio station on then Amazon Music. The radio station routine turned itself off after 2-3 hours after two weeks. So I changed it to play my Apple Music (which I had to sync). So this now lasts 4 hours. But the second routine for Apple Music now turns off after 2 hours even though it’s still programmed for four hours. That all aside I can’t fully tell how it works with smart homes as I’m in a temporary house that is from the late 70s. My new smart home is still being built so I haven’t a clue of this Echo Spot works fully or not. What I have been using it’s working effectively 90-95%.

    It does what it needs to do

    I upgraded my Dot to the new Echo Spot. After I placed my order, I got notification that I could set it up while it was in transit. When I received it, I just plugged it in, it connected to my internet, and I customized the clock.It is cute and works as an alarm, but I can still ask Alexa stuff and play music and sleep sounds. It does what an alarm clock should do.It has the screen set to dim and it turns red at night so it’s not very distracting. I was worried about that because it is right in my face at night on the night stand. The screen is clear during the day and comfortable to look at at night. Music sounds nice and the Thunderstorm sleep sound sounds really soothing and much more realistic on the Spot.I knocked off one star because I love to use Sleep Sounds at night. But when I do that, the screen stays on the sleep sound screen and the clock is very tiny (but there) and it is fairly bright. If Amazon could make the red clock face run while listening to sleep sounds it would be 5 stars!

    Over Priced BUT…..

    I believe this has to be one of the most basic Amazon devices I’ve ever owned. The device is nice made of plastic with a glass touch screen pretty small screen for the size of the device as well as some weight to it. I got this on a prime day special and thank goodness not worth the regular asking price at all. It’s a steep price to go add free on the device in my thoughts. It has create quality by all means but not for 80 dollars worth thank you savings. Set-up was seem-less especially as I did most before my device arrived with the help of already having devices and the app and the email to help me initiate the start. Great sound quality for a small device perfect next to my bed as a smart alarm clock. I like that it just works with my Alexa system already in place just like how my apple eco system works. I’d say get when on sale or if ya can’t wait or worry about it going out of stock before then I’d pick it up. It does the basics and doesn’t get overly fancy but as said get it on discount don’t pay full price not worth it

    I like it but some controls only seem to be in the Alexa app

    I like this Spot and it’s size and speaker quality, but what seems odd to me is that – unless I’m missing something – the touchscreen controls don’t have the full range of settings available and you have to go to the Alexa app or voice control to do basic things like set an alarm. This isn’t really a major problem but it makes it tricky to set an alarm if your significant other is already asleep, for example.Even some of the basic setup can’t be done using the touchscreen on the device, such as setting the time zone. This would mean that anyone less technical hoping to get one just to use as a simple alarm clock, with some extra music or weather info, would have to use the Alexa app to be able to set it up, which could be problematic or frustrating.The screen is nice and clear and the different display formats are fairly good, although only a couple of them show the date or the weather so if you want that then you’re rather restricted.I would love to be able to turn the display off and it would be perfect if it could be set so the ultrasound movement detection could turn it back on for a period of time (eg wave at it to make it show the time). Haven’t figured out how to do either though but will update if I do. The ability for both aspects technically exist in the device already so I’m hoping it’s there, and if not, it might get added in the future.Overall I would recommend the Spot despite the peculiarity of the drawbacks notes here. Just something to be aware of if they would be dealbreakers for you.

    There is a learning curve

    This is a replacement for my previous review of the Echo Spot. I reviewed the spot shortly after I received it, and I had some initial problems. I have experience with the Echo Ball, which I like very much. I found initially that it was difficult to stop the echo spot when it was playing music or aradio station. When I gave the usual command to stop the radio or stop the music, it seemed unpredictable about actually stopping the music, and it would not return to the home screen which shows the time and weather conditions. I wrote a review complaining about the difficulty of this. I received a very prompt helpful phone reply from Amazon. I learned there is another command “home” or “go home,” that will return immediately to the home screen. Also, if I wait 10 or 20 seconds after stopping the music, it will automatically return to the home screen. I simply had not expected the delay, which does not happen on the echo ball. Aside from this the echo spot seems to be a great device. It has great sound and I like the added convenience of the screen that shows a logo of the current weather and the temperature along with the time.

    NICE!

    I bought this Prime Day because I saw it was on sale and I needed to replace my 25 yr old alarm clock. I already had an Echo Dot in my bedroom, so I just swapped it out. I opted for the pre-programmed Spot, so connecting it to my Wi-Fi was simple. I don’t actually need all the bells and whistles it offers, but I do like the fact that you can opt-in for tapping it physically to turn off the alarm, plus it comes with 6 clock faces to choose from. There is also nighttime mode, which allows you to schedule the clock display to dim and turns the numbers red so you can sleep without glare keeping you awake. It also has motion detection and other features that you can find on other Amazon devices. I also love that when I request it to play my music app, it has a colorful streaming display for the song and artist, plus shows you who your notifications are from. I’m so happy I bought it!

    An incredible surprise

    First off, I really enjoy the previous edition of the Echo Spot. I certainly didn’t pay retail for that since that pricing was a joke. But the weighty little device has good oompf for its time, was a cute little device, and did it’s purpose–telling the time.This new Echo Spot is on par with that older device, with much better speakers and just as much simplicity. While (IMO) not as cute as the older model, it has a similar footprint–actually more akin to the Echo Pop. In fact, I only expected the sound–especially the bass–to only be as good as the Pop due to its size, but the Show 2 REALLY can fill a decent-sized room as it can be quite loud.People who are complaining about not being able to see the clock when playing music must not actually be looking at the device–the clock is right there, on the top of the device. I do wish the alternative watch faces all had the ability to delete the lead zero from single-digit hours, and that all faces showed the weather.And for the first time, the dark blue guy comes with a BLACK CORD. I fully expected the unmatched white, and was quite surprised.Highly recommended, and, truthfully, not as unbelievably annoying as the 5″ Echo Show with its rotating ads and constant “Alexa can do this” annoyances. If the clock starts getting that crap, I will return it, but for now, well worth the price, on sale or not.

    Does What it was Designed to Do

    I’m a little shocked at all the negative reviews. I’ll be the first to say when something isn’t up to code, but this works as intended. Make sure you carefully read the reviews because a lot of the complaints are very situational to the reviewer. Essentially, this is a bedside alarm clock. That is what I bought it for and that is what it does. Someone mentioned not being able to plug in external speakers to it. Not sure why you would buy this as a party type speaker. I will say the built in speakers are plenty loud, and dialogue/music is clear.Another reviewer mentioned ads and volume increasing automatically. So far I have yet to run into an ad. If that happens, I imagine it won’t be nearly as intrusive as the Show, which has a much larger screen. As for the alarm clock features, you can use Alexa to set up routines much like the other Echo devices. Right now, I have it set to wake me up and then read the weather, time and my calendar upon alarm dismissal. It’s a nice feature and makes me feel informed upon wake up. Also, you can tap the top of the device like a traditional alarm clock to snooze the alarm (provided you leave the mic on).I know mics in the bedroom might be an unattractive option. Thankfully, you can turn that off at the touch of a button. It contains no camera, so you don’t have to worry about that at all. Finally, someone mentioned not being able to turn off the display. I am also someone who likes to sleep in the dark. This so far hasn’t bothered me, and it’s a lot less bright of a display than the Echo Dot with Clock was. I got used to that being always on, so this should not cause you any issues if you are coming from that.This thing does what it was intended to do. If you are trying to do extra things like use it as a party speaker or you want full control of the display, you may want to look at other options. But for smart home integration and Alexa routines, this is the device to get.

    Fast Response Times, Good Sound – Nice Upgrade Compared to Google Nest Audio

    My partner has Alexa equipment and we met I had a Google Home system. Honestly, I’ve been wanting to replace Google sometime due to ongoing security concerns, Google’s awful search engine results, and at times it would randomly speak Spanish to me? Anyways.The speaker’s sound is awesome, clear, and I am enjoying trying out different music platforms to test the speakers. The mids and treble control is heard well in this speaker. Doobie brothers sounded pretty damn good from it, Dance Gavin Dance, Beastie Boys to name a few.The touch screen is a nice add on, I really like the visuals and customization. Sure, it could be better in ways but it’s premium budget smart speaker. If you’re looking for audiophile level look into Sony, Bose, etc.Communication with the unit is refreshing. Executing commands are easy and it’s responsive, Google would go brain dead on basic commands. It’s a relief that smart assistants can be reliable. I’m shocked to say it, but Alexa takes my voice for best assistant compared to Google.The speaker is capable of recognizing Dolby Atmos from music or if your phone has the feature. I love listening to audiobooks on it, Alien Out of The Shadows is a different experience compared to the Google Audio Nest.I paid for the speaker and this isn’t a paid review. I owned Google speakers for several years and watched their assistant go from reliable to giving me concerns for my safety at times. Is Alexa perfect? Probably not, but compared to my experience with Google it’s a relief.

    Amazon hits the Spot

    Loving the Spot as it has a nice yet subtle display that is easy to read with nice features that are easily programmable The sound is rich and clear, an upgrade from my echo dot 5th generation. It linked up to my Govee smart bulb with no issues and works great via voice commands or using the app. I also like that I can link my smartphone to it and play all the music on my phone thru its speakers which sound much better than my phone’s speakers.I would have given 5 stars except that the weather temperature on the display doesn’t keep up real time with local forecast as it seems rather slow to update unless/until I ask Alexa the weather at which time it updates to what Alexa says that gives me the weather temperature that matches my outside conditions. No big deal as I usually ask Alexa anyway. I did try to troubleshoot that issue with Amazon tech with no real solutions. At any rate that’s my only issue with the Spot as everything else works and looks great and I am completely satisfied, especially seeing how I got the spot on Prime days for 55% off regular price making it even more worth the price.Update: the issue with the display showing the correct temperature has gotten worse as it now says 85° on the display and it’s 96° outside according to local weather. I asked Alexa and it says it’s 96° outside which is correct but the display hasn’t changed and it still says 85°. Everything else is fine so if you want a good Alexa smart device that does everything except give the correct weather then it’s a good buy but only if you can get it at a discounted price. It would be worth the full price if everything worked as it should (meaning the weather bon the display).

    Fantastic Smart Alarm Clock – Super Fun to Customize

Contents only included the device itself, a charger, and directions.Product Impressions: It’s super cool you can set up the device beforehand on the Amazon app or online on a webpage. On a basic level, this can simply be a alarm clock which I tested and worked perfectly with the Alexa app on my iPhone. I am a security guy and like my privacy, I love how easy it is to turn off the microphone by the press of one button on the device so it cannot listen to me anymore. On the other hand, I did play around with the app more in depth and with the device itself and found the settings to be pretty deep but also fun. I set up fun routines so that when I wake up, it tells me the weather, the traffic, chances of rain, etc. along with custom messages like, “here is today’s forecast” and such. The device is pretty customizable on the app but I wish it did have more clock faces for how much I paid for it. My biggest gripe with the device is: No power=No alarm. So if the power goes out in the night and doesn’t come back on by the time I wake up, I will not have an alarm. Granted this happens rarely, just wanted to point it out. The speaker is fine for a 1.5 inch however don’t expect quality sound. It sounds like a JBL handheld speaker if that helps.Usability: So many fun settings to customize for all fun tech people! You can even make it private and turn off A LOT of functionality for privacy if that matters most.Overall Thoughts: Price is kinda high but it’s super fun and I love playing around with it with custom queries! I hope future models will include areas to put batteries in case of power outage.

    Great upgrade for bedside smart device

    I purchased this to upgrade my echo dot, what a great choice. I chose this, mostly due to the screen so I could see the time and weather when I woke up instead of having a routine play on the dot. The screen is vibrant and beautiful, there are tap features to snooze alarm (which I use), a night mode (that allows darker screen for sleep, which is perfect for me since I hate light in my room at night), and the speakers are phenomenal. I listen to rains storms when I sleep and I legitimately thought thunder was rolling outside.I have used it to play music, more metal, and the sound quality is superb. The screen allows you to see the artist, song, and album while playing. So now more “alexa, who sings this song”.Set up was a breeze. Once power was on, my alexa app notified me that it was ready to connect, found the network without me going through all the set up. My only issue is that it automatically connected to my 2.4ghz network instead of my 5ghz, which all my other devices are connected too. It was an easy switch by just putting it in pairing mode and connecting to that network.Overall, great product, great price (I got it on prime day), and great sound quality. I would and have recommended this product to a handful of people already.

    Best Bedside Device

    I bought the new Echo Spot to replace the Show 5 I had been using. It is small and stylish on the nightstand with a clock that is easy to read and automatically dims when the lights go out. Like the rest of the device, the display is small and stylish with basic information and pleasing animations, providing just the information I need and no adds. The sound is much better than the Show 5, and even provides stereo when linked to my husband’s Spot. Being an Alexa enabled device I can control any of my smart home devices from bed. Finally, it was super easy to set up. Before I could even scan the bar code it automatically connected to my network, updated, and started. In about 10 min. of browsing settings I had everything set the way like.Overall, it is the perfect bedside device doing what you need very well, without the clutter that other devices have.     It’s a Wonderful Product. Love Everything about it!

    I love everything about this Echo Spot. I had Echo dots for years and just got this one. It has amazing audio and all the functionality, I think it is a great product. It lets you customize on the device itself is very nice. (The screen is touch screen with pull down menu), or I could change setting from mt phone or tablet like Echo dot. The device design and the sounds that it produces are very pleasing to my eyes and ears. The voice recognition is better on this device than on the echo dot. They must have improved the design.

    Great bedside clock

    The Echo Spot is a great alarm clock, providing access to a much wider range of music than my old (and much larger) traditional am/fm clock radio and all of the features that you would need in such a device. The Spot does not take up much space, but the display is clear and large enough to read without my glasses. Although the Spot is my first Amazon device, it was very easy to set up and learn how to use the various functions using Alexa. It’s easier to use Alexa than fumble with the various buttons and switches on my old clock radio. The audio quality is good for an alarm clock that I will play while drifting off to sleep or waking up and getting ready for the day.

    I Love This Little Spot!

    Let me tell you how much I love this little thing! When the original Spot was released, I’d pre-ordered it. I was so excited for it to come. It was going to be the perfect new bedside alarm clock for me due to my previous one of 20 some years finally having died. And it was and is still going strong. Since buying that, Amazon has come out with the Dots which this is not! And Echoes which are okay, but those have turned into advertising units that you either can’t stop showing ads or, if you’re able to turn the ads and things off, it only lasts a few days before they start all over again. Then along comes the New Spot! It’s a Wonderful Thing! It primarily does ONE THING and does it so well! It’s a clock. It’s. A. Clock! Oh, it makes the announcement noise for things like deliveries, etc, but the Echo Show 5 I replaced with this Spot used to show me announcements and ads and all sorts of things I kept turning off that kept coming back and rarely showed me what time it was which is the one thing I wanted to see on the face. This Spot shows me what time it is unless I ask it something. I’m so impressed that Amazon finally listened to people and designed this unit to give me a clock! There’s a yellow line at the bottom of the screen if there’s a notification. There’s a clock face that shows the weather behind the clock. And there’s the clock that’s easy to read. The speaker is good, better than the original Spot, not a high end speaker, but has come a long way from the first one. My hope is that Amazon will leave it alone other than operational updates because this one is almost perfect! The only thing it won’t do for me so far is show me my Ring cameras. I can live with that.

    No detailed user manual

    We have 4 Echo devices in our network controlling a variety of items in our home. My wife needed a new alarm clock on her bed table and this Spot was being sold on pre-Prime day at a discount. It arrived the next day and was easy to set up using a QR scan. The user manual is a very brief and gave only the basics. Usually there’s a link to a more detailed manual but not in this case. You have to be careful because the Spot was originally introduced 6-7 years ago and then discontinued. This 2024 version is different so the old manual and much of the online discussions relate to the old model. Many functions can only be set by using the Alexa app on my IPhone. Some are available using the touch screen on the Spot. Over three days, through trial and error, we finally have it set up to do want we want. Most of our adjustments related to night brightness and volume. The night brightness has two modes. One is total night where the numbers change to a faint reddish glow which we found difficult to read. The other mode adapts the display to the level of ambient light. That works well and we adopted it. The one feature we couldn’t believe was missing was the inability to turn off a preset alarm without speaking out loud to Alexa. This was when either of us got up before the alarm went off and we wanted to silence it without speaking. Since there’s no manual, I contacted tech support and they couldn’t help me. They recommended using the Alexa app on my phone. That means we would always need to have a phone available and go through the menus. Unacceptable! Finally, after many many attempts, I finally found you can do that by tapping on the alarm display on the main screen. That takes you to a second display of the alarm detail and then you swipe left. The screen changes to a red bar with an “X” on it. Touch the X and the alarm is gone silently.Otherwise, the device seems to work well and so far, we haven’t heard shopping ads as are present on other Echo devices.

    Dim at night, and that’s a good thing!

    I bought this at a Prime member introductory price to use as an alarm clock. My wife is very sensitive to light when she’s sleeping. Every alarm clock she tries is too bright. She puts them on the other side of the room, drapes cloth over them, etc., etc. to make them less annoying. The product description doesn’t provide any details on the display dimming features of this device, but I figured it was worth a try for 45 bucks.Long story short… on the dimmest setting and night mode (red display), this clock is dim enough for her. She can even keep it on her nightstand! The display brightness is easy to set on the touch screen, which is a plus.I can’t speak to the other features of this device, but if you need an alarm clock that is very dim at night, this could be it.

    Perfect for my needs

    This is perfect for me as I live in a small apartment and was looking for both a clock and a bluetooth speaker. This is exactly that, so do not expect something different. Sound is great for a bedroom or a small living room and the display is bright enough to see at a distance, but you can also dim it down if you want. Got it for $40 (which I believe should be the default price) and I am very happy with it.

    Just got this all set up last night and let me tell you, it does not disappoint! Love that you can change the clock set up on the face, change the color of the display, and the touchscreen use! It is awesome and was definitely a great upgrade from my Echo Dot hockey puck lol. It will only respond to my voice so far. It will not recognize my daughter. Which I am not opposed to, as this is in my bedroom. Have not set up any routines or tested how it does with music and such. It does have a nice, loud speaker for alarms though! Looking forward to playing around with this some more and seeing what else it can do!

    Alexa PERFECTION!

    This is EXACTLY the Echo I’ve been waiting for! I had a very old Google clock with the weather. It stopped working recently and I have been on the hunt for a smart clock with weather on the screen EVER SINCE. I have Alexa in many rooms of my House but never in my bedroom or entryway because I wanted the weather and a clock and that was never available except in the Show, which was just too big for my spaces, until now. I highly recommend the smart bulb bundle as well. Set up was plug, open Alexa app and let it update. Then I went in and picked my clock face and color scheme and set up routines (which was a bit more complicated than it could have been to find in the app but that’s an app issue not a device issue) I love the blue color and the size and the customization ability. Thank you Amazon for this awesome addition! I have already bought two and am considering a 3rd! 😁

    Love it

    I have the ehco dot, pop and now the spot. I love them all but the spot is my favorite. It show you the time and weather on the main screen. It shows you the song you are listening to as well as anything else. The performance is amazing. The sound and bass are great when listening to music. It is synced up with my dot and pop and they work so well together. I highly recommend this product it’s well worth the price.

    Amazing for the price specially with the current discount

    I own and love the first spot. But I only bought one because it was so expensive and had so many featuresi did not use or where just to small on screen to be useful.This one does everything that I use my echos for the most. I bought 4 to replace two echo dots and a 5 inch that was in a bedroom plus one for the den.The design is great and the clock options are a good range of simple modern to playful. I love that I can pick the accent color of the interface to match the decor although I do wish there were more colors.There are features missing that other echo device have but most of those features are justified by the lower price.The sound is good but obviously not audiophile grade. Most of the improvement in sound over the dots and the show5 seem to come from the fact the the speaker is front facing.

    Great bedside Alarm Clock

    I got tired of my Echo Show 5 recommending a Taylor Swift alarm everytime I set an alarm so I jumped on this as soon as I saw it was released. Its nice to not have your alarm clock inundate you with ads all day. This is a great little alarm clock which is its pure intention. After a few hours of use I already have a few suggestions for future updates.1) Please give the option to show the temperature and date on all clock faces, not just one.2) Please give us the option to choose the color of the font in night mode. It currently defaults to red which for those of us who are visually challenged color wise is hard to read since we don’t wear our glasses to bed.With the static nature of the fonts on the screen I’m a little worried about screen burn in but time will tell.

    Slight step backward from the original Echo Spot

    I’ve been using the original Echo Spot for several years as a nightstand clock. I never liked that it had a camera in it that was only disabled with a software switch, but the size was good and functionality was good too. The new spot (which is clearly a refactored Pop) removed the camera completely (good call!) and changed from a round screen to a small rectangular one. This new spot is a little larger than the old one, but not enough to really matter.The biggest thing that struck me about this new Spot is that the screen doesn’t fill the black portion of the device’s front. At night it’s really obvious because they used LCD instead of OLED or AMOLED or something without a backlight for the screen. This is similar to the old Spot except the old spot at least had a round screen so it didn’t look goofy/cheap. The only real upgrade I’ve found on the new Spot versus the original is the clock designs and updated interface. The new designs and backgrounds are simplified and give a cleaner look.Getting away from the screen issues, I find the sound on the original Spot to be slightly better. The sound design of the original seemed to be more omnidirectional whereas the new one seems directional. That’s a logical design choice given most nightstands are going to be against a wall, but sound reflects off most walls pretty well and at least for me, I need sound off to the side (opposite of my bed) where my bathroom is located. I think maybe the larger size of the new Spot allowed them to fit a larger speaker for more bass response, but I can’t say for sure it helped.Overall, I’ve been fairly disappointed in my switch from the original Spot to the new one. It’s not a bad device, but so far it’s not living up to the original in my book. If you didn’t have the original, and know the screen doesn’t fill the black portion of the face, you’ll likely be happy with it. However, if the clock is the most important feature and you want more omnidirectional sound, I’d stick with the Dot that has an LED clock. We’ve got two 4th gens and one 5th gen of those Dots and they work well for bedside clocks.

    A nice device upgrade

    Like the color display of time, which changes color with ambient lighting change (I.e., day to night), and which allows a few font options. The display of artist info while playing music is also a nice feature. I like the geometric design as well, which has a nice viewing angle. Bought it during prime day sale, so the reduced price was a nice bonus.

    SOUND!!! :O))

    Just delivered today and out of the box, I was disappointed by the screen size. As someone below said, it’s just a pop with screen. CON: 1. Slow response to load; at least for me. 2. When music is being played weather displayed is only available on one of the themes. So far these are the only two cons for me. PRO: SOUND!!! so bold and beautiful 😍. Someone commented on the clock disappearing during music play; not so it’s in tiny letters above and if you go to home page the big clock with music equalizer displays. Also the comment on only being able to set an alarm in the app because they don’t want to disturb their partner, you can whisper and Alexa mimics. Finally, unfortunately for me this is going to be my son’s. Think he’ll love his surprise upon his return. One extra thing, I would get the accommodating stand just to make it stand out.

    Caveat Emptor of the Screen

    If you own a previous-generation Spot, make sure you check out the specs on this one before you add it to the cart. In the videos and pictures the screen for the 2024 release looks like it fills the entire top half but this is not the case. The screen is actually a small rectangle (2.83” with 320 x 240 resolution) within the semicircle. If you’ve never owned a Spot before this probably won’t bother you. If you have, it feels like a downgrade. I will give it top marks for sound as the speaker has plenty of punch. Great bass with a 3 band adjustment if you want to adjust.

    The best yet.

    I thought the 5th Gen Echo Dot with Clock was the perfect addition to my nightstand.I was wrong.When my dot died (stopped responding to commands), I had plans to replace it with the same product.But then I saw the Echo Spot with display. Super stylish, easy to set up, and the display is buttery smooth.I love the ability to choose clock style and that it automatically changed color based on time of day, so it doesn’t illuminate the bedroom with unwanted light when I’m trying to sleep.Very happy with this new edition.

    I got a phone call from a super customer service guru and she helped me get it going in five minutes. Mine is the blue one and I haven’t found a face configuration that is easy to read in the middle of the night. I think maybe the white model has one. Bossy Alexa has control.

    Great replacement to echo show 5…

    I had the Echo Show 5, which was a nice device. I didn’t need the big screen. I was not too fond of the camera or the rear-facing speaker. So I was happy Amazon came out with a small screen, and forward-facing speaker. This works perfectly in the bathroom where I need music while seeing the time and temp frequently.

    An excellent device— Big improvement over the Echo Dot

    The spot is much more user-friendly and interactive than the Dot – overall. To begin with, the clock itself is infinitely more noticeable and pleasant to look at and also the graphics are much better— although in fact, there are no graphics on the dot. The face is also interactive In the sense that you can turn off the display of your notices or timers, etc. It is not perfect, and some of the criticisms are valid, but overall it’s a big winner and my favorite of all the Echo devices, all of which I own .

    Love It!

    I have most of the Echo models. I saw an advertisement of the release of the Echo Spot and it was 40%+- off the retail price. I was on a long vacation and wanted an alarm clock that played music, so I ordered it. I really enjoyed its size, functionality, and sound quality. I was able to get answers with Alexa, use it as an alarm clock, and also listen to my playlists.

    Neat alarm clock

    For the most part I really like this device. I’ve never had any Alexa devices so this is the first one and I’ve enjoyed it!! I really enjoy setting routines for wake up and bed time. My only complaint is it has multiple screen color options but it won’t change, same with the clock face, I will select a clock face and it won’t change automatically or it only has the clock and won’t show the weather like it’s supposed to. Other than that it’s a great buy!

    A Nice Smart Clock with a few flaws

    Just unboxed my new Echo Spot and I must say, it’s a very nice looking clock especially in this black color which I always wanted from my previous 5th gen echo dot. However I do have to address some minor issues with this generation of the echo Spot.1. Time shrinks when playing music: When playing music, it unfortunately shrinks the time and shows the album cover of whatever your listening to, which makes it almost impossible to see the time at a glance while playing music.Though, you can swipe down from the top and press the home button while playing audio and you’ll be able to see the time while playing music, but if you want to pause your music the only way to do that is to ask Alexa to pause your music, you can’t go back to that same menu showcasing the album art and pause from there.2. Customization: I absolutely love the way the clock faces look on the new Echo spot, I just wish it had more clock faces and colors at launch, unfortunately your only given six clock faces and six colors. I really hope that with future updates will see more colors and new clock faces.3. Turning on/off your alarm from device: I have to admit, to me this was a major let down. So if you set your alarm from the Alexa app, it’ll obviously showcase a clock icon and your alarm set time on the bottom of the screen. As soon as you tap on that icon, it brings you to a menu showing your set alarms. All you can do is swipe left to turn it off, that’s it. There’s no options on the device itself to allow you to turn on existing alarm or set new ones. You have to go back to the Alexa app and set new alarms or turn on existing set alarms. I don’t know about you, but that kind just defeats the purpose of having a touchscreen.Otherwise I give this 4 stars because of it’s minor flaws that I had mentioned above, overall it’s a very nice clock

    Best Echo for my nightstand PERIOD!

    I absolutely love this echo spot. It looks amazing not only on my desk in my office, but I also got one for my bedroom nightstand and honestly, I wish Amazon would’ve made this sooner and not canned the previous generation. This form factor is perfect. It’s a little taller than an echo dot But it looks like an echo spot based on the angle that it rests at. I’m glad it does not have a camera. The music sounds great.Update: one week later! Zero regrets!! Looks stunning on my desk! The screen is crisp. And no camera!

    Great so far

    I’m liking it so far. It has a small about 2×2 display that displays the clock and current weather. That can be customized with colors and other clock faces. It will also display things like current status of a light or when your listening to music.Speaking of music this thing actually has some decent sound quality for how small it is and only having 1 speaker. No complaints in the sound.I saw a few comments about people complaining it doesn’t get dark enough at night but if you look in the settings (I doubt these people did that) there’s a night mode setting that turns it to a clock only and dims the display quite a bit. I found no issues with it being to bright at night.

    Nice Device

    This device works better than the dot it replaced. It hears my commands easily (the dot had issues), the display is perfect at night and it has become my go to Amazon device. Since I do not attach a separate speaker to a port on the spot I do not care that there are no additional ports. Since the spot device can attach to any Bluetooth or WiFi enabled device I do not believe that there are no additional ports on the spot.

    Does not work as a Windows playback Device. This is for Echo Techs to read & fix

    The spot works ok, but not as a Windows Playback Device Speaker. I have it connected as a Bluetooth device, but when I go into my Sound settings & click on the playback Tab. I see the spot as an audio device & it’s disabled. I tried to enable it & connect it there as aWindows 10 pro playback device & it will not connect as a Windows playback device, so I can’t use it as a Wireless speaker to watch you tube or any Amazon Movies ext. I believe it’s a Windows Driver issue for this spot device. My Echo Dot Gen 5 didn’t have this problem. I could use it to listen to everything. I hope they can get the correct Driver implemented into the updates for the Echo Spot soon.

    Nice job, Amazon… this things works great.

    I used to have to tune in to stuff to listen to when I went to bed. I used my iPad, linked to my Bose speaker. Those worked great, but this is easier… I can just say “Alexa, play an episode of The Lone Ranger” and she does it. The clock adjusts to the room light and the alarm is as easy as saying “Alexa, set alarm for 6 am” and she does that, too.

    A fun little devise that performs if you learn…

    The Spot is a cute little gadget that does exactly what it says, no more and no less. Many of these reviews are incorrect and the owners are so ready to complain they don’t take the time to learn the capabilities of the devise. For example, one review says the light cant be dimmed. Of course it can, just swipe down from the top and you can open all the settings including display brightness.Another complains that you need the Alexa app to set an alarm on the Spot. No you don’t…just tell Alexa to set an alarm at the time you want, she will do the rest.If you take the time, the Spot will make you happy.

    Spectacular

    I had the old Alexa for 10 years. The big tall one. It passed away. So I go this one.After ordering it, I got an email to do a simple setup. I clicked on the link and allowed connection. That’s it. When it arrived, all I had to do was plug it in. Open the app on my phone, and it was automatically done.The sound quality is amazing.It remembers all my previous connections and settings and users.The screen is touch sensitive.The clock on the face was adjustable and so I set it up to show weather too.The display gets dark in the evening. And I was able to adjust what time.I could go on and on about this. But it is one of the best Amazon products I have bought. Highly recommended

    Sleek, cute device

    I have been looking for something to replace my old school alarm clock. I saw this two days ago and I thought it was perfect for me. The only problem is that now the Alexa I have in my room I no longer need, but I love this little gadget the music sounds good. It’s very loud the way I can set up. The different clock faces helps. I know I’ve only had it for one day but so far so good and also the album cover when you play music you could just tell Alexa to go back to the home screen while the music is playing and you will have the time back on the screen

    Not your father’s Alexa dot

    2024/07/25 – This is a preliminary review. I plan to use it for a full 10 days. These are my thoughts on the Spot at this moment:I briefly had the original Spot some years back and I had many issues with it. This product is something different. Firstly, it doesn’t have a camera and the screen doesn’t take up most of the face. These are the pros.For problems, the Spot is significantly larger than the Dot. It weight more too. The speaker is about the same size as a Pop, which means poorer sound quality. Also, the volume is lower. I have a routine that sets the volume to 50%. To be as audible, I have to set the volume to 65%. Other issues: I don’t face the device, so I like to have the prompt at the start and end of a request. This is set in the Alexa app, but there are no prompts. What I found most perplexing is that a routine I run every morning for the last three years does not work on the Spot. It makes three or four of the statements and then stops for no reason. I works on my Dot 3, Dot 4, Dot 5, Echo 4, Fire tablet 8 and Echo Flex. It is really strange that something as fundamental as routines would be an issue.I will have a followup in a couple of days.2024/08/09I have worked with Spot 2 now for a couple of weeks and here are my findings:- The setup was normal for an Echo product. It connected to my network without issue.- The sound was a bit disappointing. I had hoped that the front facing speaker would give decent sound. I have several routines that change the Echo volume when executed. I had to increase the volume on the Spot after these were run. The microphone required me to speak louder as well.- The size is in between other members of the brand. It is larger than a Dot but smaller than an Echo or and Echo Show 5/8. As such, this limits the product’s potential. As a speaker, it is oversized. As a screen it is undersized. Unlike Spot 1, the display is not designed to show videos. It does give transcripts of news stories and notifications. The size makes reading the text hard to read, especially when it is scrolling. It works well at showing the weather, giving animations of conditions and displaying high and low temperature. Basically, this is a smartish digital clock.- I have a routine for the morning that gives the time, date, schedule for the day, three reminders and run a skill. This works on all my other devices. On the Spot 2, it stops at the schedule. This is consistent. I am wondering if this is an issue with new operating system. I hate to think I am part of a beta test.- I cannot see why the temperature sensor was not included or not activated. This is a useful feature and is in the Dot gen 5. Why something so expensive is cheaping out on this is puzzling.- Finally, this product is not innovative. It is basically slapping on a cellphone screen on a Pop. The last real Echo advancement was the Flex, which is now discontinued.It is for this reason I am returning the Spot. I am not sure to whom this product was meant, but it wasn’t me. I should have gone for a second Dot 5. I would have had a better experience at a lower price.

    I didn’t need it, but I like it.

    I only really use this to listen to music as I’m falling asleep. I have had two Amazon Dots previously, but when I saw this Amazon Spot, I liked that it would display the album artwork of the song that it is playing. Was there anything wrong with either of my Dots? No. Did I need to upgrade to this Spot? No. But I like it. Sometimes it can take a minute for me to fall asleep, so I like watching the album artwork and the display change song by song until I fall asleep.

    Nice upgrade to the Dot

    Was about to order an Echo Dot for a bedside radio/alarm. Then, the new Echo SPOT was released. I am so glad I made the purchase. The sound is an upgrade from the dot, but not to the level of the Studio–as expected. The Spot updated itself upon turning on and connected flawlessly to my network.. Make sure you are using the Alexa app and you should have no problem.I purchased the “Ocean Blue” color and it is a nice change from black and white. A video screen replaces the ‘dots’ on the Dot that displayed the time. The screen seems to have high detail and nice clarity. As you can tell, I really like my purchase. If you are thinking about buying this Echo, just to it! No regrets.

    Pretty nice, but adaptive brightness does not work

    I bought this to replace a dot which had a clock. It’s a great product, I love the touch screen and the audio quality is great for how small it is.However, the adaptive brightness does not work. It’s not even close to being sensitive enough. I returned my first spot after troubleshooting with an Amazon tech, and this one does the same thing. It takes a flashlight pointed directly at the sensor for the adaptive brightness to work. This matters to me because I like to have to pretty dark at night.I will learn to live with it, but bummer still. The old dot worked perfectly.
