Decent sound quality and Alexa isn’t as prone to misunderstandings as Siri
Well I have this tendency to thank Siri (I’m trying to do positive reinforcement so perhaps Siri will behave better but it hasn’t worked) and that carried over to Alexa. To my surprise Alexa has some manners, thanked me back. Siri and my relationship has been strained for some time with constant misunderstandings and confusion between the two of us but Alexa really did hit the ground rubbing. Very limited misunderstandings. Sometimes it takes her a minute to change a light color or turn it on/off, but if I ask Siri to turn the lights magenta I end up with an order for 10 light magnets. Setting up smart devices is mixed bag but honestly, nothing to do with Alexa, it’s mostly in the convoluted instructions or user error. The sound for Alexa’s voice is clear as a bell but my experience with the music etc hasn’t really wowed me but maybe I just have a tin ear.

Disappointing to say the least
I got this as any recommendation from my best friend that uses his to turn lights on and off. I bought two of them the little one that I think is version 3 and then this one which is five I think. Not much difference really especially when it comes to the sound. First thing I did was change the name from Alexa to computer. I never have like that name and then I was able to change the voice from female to male. That made it a little better. But I tell the computer that it is stupid a lot of times and it just ignores me then. I’ve asked it questions with sometimes acceptable answers but then you can’t ask a follow-up question to their answer; it just ignores me again. The lights on and off part is hit or miss, I called one light a pole light right and then called it the right pole light another time and something else a third time so when I mentioned one of those phrases to the computer it tells me that there are three versions for that light, which one do I want it to use and my answer is any of them stupid. I haven’t even tried the lightbulb. I wish I would have just returned these dumb things.

Sound quality is terrible, and it appears to have a mind of its own. It will start talking about stuff I never inquired about. I wish I could trade it in for something usefull, like a pencil or a paper clip.

Love Alexa
I use this device for all kinds of stuff. I especially love the grocery list option. I can just tell her to add stuff to the list, and then look at the list on my cell phone when I’m in the store. I use her for my audiobooks and to listen to music when I’m cleaning and working. She’s also very handy for things that need to be looked up when I’m working on a project. It’s like having a personal assistant around the house!

Top Quality Design
I bought this to replace a Google Nest Mini in my bedroom because for some reason Google decided right after Thanksgiving to update all their speaker units by removing the sleep timer. I put a note on Google Support and they have had hundreds of upset customers. After a month, no solution has been forthcoming.I also have a 4th generation Echo Dot that I moved to the bedroom to replace the Google unit. This new one is now in my Kitchen Great Room and it performs great. It fills the whole room with sound and best is the sleep timer works flawlessly, unlike the Google products.This came with a smart light bulb as part of a promotion and I absolutely love that bulb as well. You can select not only standard bulb colors, warm, soft cool white, etc., but if your are feeling 70’s retro you can pretty much change the light color to whatever you want, blue, green, purple etc…

Alexa is wonderful for so many things…except playing music simultaneously
I now have an echo 3rd gen flat round echo in my bed room, a 4th gen echo dot in my office, 4th gen Premium big echo in living room, and now the 5th gen echo dot in my office area. I love being able to turn on/off my lights, my fire & roku TV’s, making shopping lists, reminders, setting alarms, dropping in on my kids, and playing music by just asking alexa. The only issue I’ve had is a pretty big one though- I was super excited about her being able to play the same music all throughout my place, however this has never worked out well. Usually it plays well for a while, then the music stops right in the middle of a good song, or starts “skipping” like I’m playing an old CD, so that’s very disappointing cause it was initially the main reason I wanted all of them. It might be due to my wifi though so I cant fully point the finger at alexa. It’s still worth having her around though.

Great sound, I really enjoy the bass that this device comes with. Mind you I haven’t made any edits to The default settings that it arrived with, so it may get even better. The reason I gave it three stars is because I’ve had quite a few issues with this device first off responding to wake word too often. Next sometimes it will respond to wake word but will abruptly stop listening and go to sleep again.Other times it will let me complete a question but still does not respond and goes back to sleep.Still, my biggest complaint is that I have created a voice profile for my account which is supposed to protect me from unexpected and unauthorized amazon purchases being made by other individuals. However, this device apparently allows any voice to add items to my cart and also gives them the option to say purchase to complete the transaction. (We tested this out )I do not feel safe about or like this at all, and find it very problematic. I have several Alexa devices in my home and Pretty regular we have guests.This glitch presents a major issue that makes me question if it is smart having my payment details attached to my account. I’ve submitted complaints through the device and really hope that Amazon will get on this ASAP. It also stinks that a few weeks after purchasing this device for just over $50 with taxes and all, it is now down to $22. Of course I’ve passed my 30 day mark and it’s just a loss. Maybe research projected sale times and make sure that you are not purchasing right before the devices goes on a super sale.

Nice speaker, very fun games to play as well.
I have one hooked to my PC through bluetooth, for when I’m at my desk and want to watch a video or TV show. It works goood for this. I also have 2 hooked up to my Fire TV in the living room, as the speakers on my TV are not very good. The sound quality, while not mind blowing, is actually quite good for the price. Sometimes it’ll activate without us saying Alexa. I do wish that I could connect more than one to my PC so that I could have better sound, but this model there is no aux port, and you can only connect one through bluetooth at a time on non fire devices. Overall I’m satisfied, but I would love to be able to connect more than one to my PC, the loss of the aux port loses one star for this very reason.

Wish I got a homepod
Not easy to control from my phone. Basically forced to use Amazon music. After 3 months it turned off and I’m replacing it with a Bluetooth speaker or homepod

Disappointing
The echo only worked for a little over a week and then started sounding like it was underwater. Never was able to get the light to connect. But we tried two and neither worked, so maybe it’s something with out wifi?

WOULDN’T STAY CONNECTED
IT WOULD NOT STAY CONNECTED TO AN EERO ROUTER OR FRONTIER MODEM. ONLY RESPONDS THAT IT IS NOT CONNECTED. NOT WORTH VERY MUCH IF YOU CANNOT CONNECT IT.

Very handy around the house
Love the Dot bought 2 and it’s so cool to give a command with no hassle. Works great and alot of fun to have. Rumors that “they” can listen to everything that goes on in your home or wherever you have this set up, doesn’t matter if “they” can whoever “they “ are my place is not worth hearing barking dogs most of the time lol, love this invention!

Consistent Amazon product
If you’ve had any Alexa products you already know what to expect, and this one delivered accordingly. Voice recognition is very good, and the sound quality is fine for the size of the speaker. No audiophile will use this as their main source of long-term audio enjoyment, but it’s great for a smaller room and for asking questions, etc.

If you want sound get 4th Gen this is like a wish or temu speaker but worse. Wish it could have been what it said, sounds nothing like described!
