First choice, and a really good one at that

I finally got out from under the CableCast yoke, and was miraculously able to keep my internet, so I studied my options. I don’t have a smart TV, but it is a very good TV, so I needed a streaming apparatus. After drilling down on reviews (from sources outside Amazon) of several devices, I chose this 3rd Gen FireStick, and I’m very happy with it so far. I was hesitant about Alexa, but now I love it.The stick has improved picture sharpness on my TV, and has also improved loudness (yes, I’m one of those who had a sudden reduction in volume on my TV a couple of years ago, meaning I once could put the volume on 10 and hear the TV just fine, but now it’s sometimes up to 35. There’s zero wrong with my hearing, and I’m not the only person I’ve heard complain about this very problem, so…subtitles it is, and on everything).I love all the free apps, and being able to watch the ones I already subscribe to on Amazon with an improved pic and sound. I did laugh, though, when watching something on Crackle and it started pixelating like crazy. Some things never change, no matter if it’s cable streaming or FireStick. Made me feel right at home. The only thing I ran into that I wasn’t happy about is that I have a Bluetooth receiver, and I paired it with Fire Stick. No problem with the pairing, but it sounded like it was coming from inside a cave, with echoes. I’ll figure something out…All in all, I do recommend this little guy. It’s a sweet replacement for overly expensive cable, which I used 1 day a week to watch a show I love (available on Paramount+ via Amazon, so I can still watch it, bwaaahaha!) There’s just no point in forking out all that money for a service I don’t even need. Happy!

Should Have Bought This Years Ago

This is so easy to setup and use, I wish I got this years ago. I’ll be honest, and I feel a bit foolish admitting this, but: Despite hearing about the Fire TV stick’s existence for years, I never considered it because I thought there was a monthly fee! I didn’t want to pay for anything beyond my subscriptions, so I never even read the details. I put my television in a box in the attic when I ‘cut the cord’ with my cable company in 2012 and it’s been there ever since. I’ve been watching ‘TV’ on my desktop PC or on my Kindle. This worked well enough for years, but during the pandemic I began spending a lot more time streaming shows and despite replacing my desk chair with a more comfortable chair, it just wasn’t ergonomic and became more and more uncomfortable, so I needed to reconsider my TV setup. Enter the Fire Stick! This time I read the details – and then re-read them, and then Youtubed videos about it, because I couldn’t believe it really didn’t cost anything per month! You just buy the stick and plug it in and that’s it?! Yep!So here’s a few noteworthy points: First, it does not use USB; I saw this pop up in the questions for this product quite a bit. Technically the wall adapter plugs into the included USB cord – just like your kindle charger, etc. But there’s no USB needed for the actual television end, it uses an HDMI port and that’s it. Interestingly, I almost didn’t get it because I was sure the TV I bought back in 2009 wouldn’t have an HDMI port, but I finally went up to the attic to check and sure enough, it has one! So be sure your TV has an HDMI port, that’s required.Setup was ridiculously easy. Just attach the items in the box together and plug it into the HDMI port on the back of your TV and then plug the other end into a wall outlet. That’s it! Then turn the TV on and the setup will walk you through the rest, signing you into your Amazon account, calibrating the included remote control, updating (several times), choosing streaming apps to start with, etc. It’s all very simple. If you want to watch paid streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, etc you must have a paid subscription to them. But there’s other services/apps such as Pluto TV and others that are totally free and have a decent variety of ad-supported content, both shows and movies as well as news. And Amazon’s apps are of course there, like Amazon Music and Prime Video (if you subscribe to Prime Video). I only have Hulu and Prime Video currently as paid subscriptions, but there’s plenty of free content to supplement. In fact, I even have my local news which surprised me (they must stream on a live app and I never realized it).So basically, it aggregates various paid and free streaming apps to one place and this little stick presents them all in one nice looking interface, letting you use your remote to choose programming, just like TV. To be clear, the Fire TV stick runs off your wifi signal, so be sure you have wifi at home. On one hand it doesn’t give you anything you can’t get without it, but on the other hand, the convenience of having it all accessible in one place is fantastic and makes it feel like I’m getting all kinds of new content. Some of the apps I’ve never even heard of, so there is new-to-me content in that regard. The interface is excellent and fairly intuitive, and the remote works great. I am super glad I opted for the Fire TV stick option that comes with the remote that also has TV controls like volume and mute, so I can do it all with the remote that came with it. Now I can sit in my living room like a normal person and watch TV (streaming services) comfortably from my couch; I should have got this years ago.Just be sure you have:1. A TV with an HDMI port2. Wifi at home3. OPTIONAL: Paid services if you want to watch Hulu, Netflix, etc. Otherwise you can still use this to access free content.

    Excellent! Need I say more?!

This streaming stick has been a great addition to my set-top box entertainment corner at home. I have it hooked up to my HDMI port on my gaming monitor and I use it to stream mostly the Rewarded TV app. The streaming quality is great over wifi, just takes a few seconds to get a clear picture as it loads up. Of course, this is dependent on your internet speed, and wifi quality. My setup is around 20 feet away from my wifi router so I have excellent signal. Speaking of setup, the step-by-step process to get the Fire TV Stick up and running is so smooth and simple, I feel like a 5-year-old could do it haha. I don’t really use the Alexa integration, so I can’t really comment on that. I’m sure it works just fine though. All in all, I’m very impressed with this little device and very happy I bought it.

    You really need to upgrade!!

I’ve had a fire stick since just about the moment they came out and loved every day with her. But she was getting slow as an elderly fire stick will do. A couple months ago the brand new one went on sale for $30 so I quietly snagged one. I only opened the box and put my new lady in last week (takes two minutes to install and set up – so easy a man could do it). The old hag had gotten so unbearably slow and I had to restart three times a day. We had a lot of good times together but when that starts to go sour just order a new one!

How did I live without this?!?!

It’s a great feeling to be able to find something to watch without the hassle of jumping from one device to another make a selection. Being able to have all of your favorite apps in one centralized location is a dream. Love the fact that the most viewed apps are always near the front of the que when I want to get back to the last thing I was watching. The number of apps to choose from is astounding!!! The fact that there are so many free apps available is another huge plus. So happy to not have to go from PlayStation, to Apple TV, to Smart TV now. Wish I would have bought this a while ago. The fact that I can ask Alexa to find me something to watch by request is perfect for when I am bored and just being indecisive!!!

Great device until you use Amazon Prime on it. Update: even worse but hope.

Edit: Press and hold the home button for 5 seconds+ and you have an interface 90% better than the stock one. But…Wish I had gotten something else. Now I have “Try Alexa” literally every 5 seconds on the screen breaking every single “overview” of every application. Yes I have every single possible notification, popup, you name it OFF or in the case of inverted statements, the epitome of crappy interfaces, ON.This thing is trash. Already looking at buying/building something else and feel so bad I recommended it to someone I plan to buy/build something else for them on my costs. The only way to stop it is to go into, some not all, apps. (or hold home for 5+ seconds and use a minimal launcher)Original:The short of my personal recommendation is if you plan to use an Amazon Prime app get something else that has a different form of app. If you plan to use everything else then this is a good bit of hardware and software.Been using a Samsung TV for many years but its old enough the non-amazon apps are starting to not be supported. The firestick was on sale for a decent price and far less than building my own so I picked it up. Installation went well, I really like the controller and the level of apps and their performance is fantastic. Then comes Amazon Prime. I realize I am reviewing the app and not the device but it can’t run a “different” amazon prime app. You are only as good as your apps end of day and the fact is this is an Amazon device and its Amazon’s flag ship application that you’d think would be a match made in heaven. Rather its the other “h” word.So why the one star when I originally rated it three? Time teaches, in short.1)The inability to stop preview video causes massive problems with navigation from crashes and massive slow downs to it disrupting controller button presses and down right a gargantuan annoyance trying to navigate around. Seriously, your only option is to mute the auto-play previews not the actual video. All other apps I have tried that support this feature allow you to turn it off. Whoever came up with the idea to not allow it being disabled should be fired. If I want to preview something I’ll watch this thing called a trailer. It is so bad while navigating the app I feel like I’m going to have a seizure due to the constant flashing and movement in the background that I have zero control over aside from not using the app.2)It defaults to one-click purchases. Yah, can’t imagine why they did that. The real issue though is that you have to use “Parental Controls” to disable one-click purchases. Excuse me? What does this have to do with parental controls? I don’t want myself, the “parent and owner”, to be able to do this and I don’t have kids. “Oops, pressed a button and just bought a 20 dollar movie.”. Wow, moronic. Ok, so you disable it and now you are having to punch in a PIN every purchase and yet another password to remember. While I have not checked let me guess, if you forget your pin you have to wipe the device? Um, here is an absolutely genius idea, ready? Add a toggle to just turn off one-click purchases. BINGO. I want a million dollar check for that idea. I might even patent it. Make that two million since topic #1 I plan to patent too, button to stop auto video preview.3)My amazon credits for digital purchases don’t show up even under the more options. On my Samsung I could click on the rent button and see exactly what was going to happen and even elect if I wanted to apply credits or not. Now, you see nothing. Searched the net and roamed around in the device for a good hour and I can’t find a single reference to this. Granted I have only tried purchasing once but the only message I got was an email indicating the purchase and the cost. Pretty bad that I have to go log into my computer to find out what my credits are. Oh wait, 15 minutes of searching for that and I can’t find it either and no its not under your redeemable section in account. I checked. It’s “a mystery” or more likely just more epically poor “UI/App” design across the board.4)The entire 40% of the top of the screen is nothing but an advertisement that is again, annoyin. The “app bar” is limited to a tiny middle row and half the width. For the size of Amazon you’d think they could find some decent UI developers. “You think you can do better?” “Yes, game over.”.5)Because of all this bloat and forced useless features the amazon app is SLOW and I’m talking at least 20-30% slower than even the poorly created apps I’ve tried for free streaming. That’s pretty appalling considering its their app on their device and speaks volumes, I presume, about their developer, marketer and management teams.I am sure people will have some sort of “answer” to many of my points but not all and none will solve the elephant in the room. The epically poor design of a flagship app on a flagship device that, in my view, defines said device. The app is so bad I sincerely doubt I will be renewing my prime membership. I can’t stand using it so much it’s not worth the literal headache it causes, I am not joking.Amazon ruined a great device with tons of great apps with their own app. It’s pretty much one of the worst UI setups I’ve seen on a streaming device. My nearly 10 year old Samsung TVs amazon app interface is still vastly superior and actually faster. Maybe all of the new devices out there have the same bloated, seizure inducing, rigged for accidental purchases outside paying the price of more annoyance and down right poorly designed app but it would be worth taking the time to find out if that is one of your targeted applications. As to my suggestion to amazon, presuming they read this or even allow it to post. Go look at some of the other apps and definitely those for free streaming because they have you beat by light years on UI design and user experience. Amazon does some great stuff but this app is not one of them.

    Just stopped working

Bought it for Christmas 2022, worked until March 2023. Would let you select the app you wanted, select the show or movie and then the loading circle would pop up for longer than normal and then the screen would just go black. I troubleshooted what I could by myself, I troubleshooted it with Amazon Support over the phone. They ultimately decided it needed to be “repaired or replaced”. They said I had to send it in and they would decide whether it was repair or replace once they got it and then would either repair it and send it back or send a replacement. They did neither. It took me 1 phone call and 3 chats to get the shipping label printed out because the link didn’t get sent the 1st time and didn’t work the next two times. Then once they got it, they never said what they were going to do with it. I waited 3 weeks and heard nothing, had to call them and then they informed me they decided on replacement, but wouldn’t just send me another one. They said they needed to refund me and then I needed to buy it again. Which is stupid and pointless. After arguing with them for an hour; they credited me the amount to pay for a new one and made me reorder it with the credit. Made no sense, and was way too difficult for no reason. Shouldve been straight forward: I sent them the old broken one, they should’ve sent me a new one. Money shouldn’t have even been involved. Only issue I’ve ever had with Amazon. New one seems to be fine so far, but it’s only May so we’ll see. Hopefully no more issues. I have no idea about whether the Alexa function works, I don’t use it and have it turned off. Haven’t used the voice recognition either.

    LOVE it

WHY oh why didn’t I get on the Firestick train sooner? I didn’t really understand the whole streaming thing. My Cox Cable bill went up to $269 for Internet and cable. I switched to T-mobile for $30.00 a month 5 G. Bought this Firestick and got rid of Cable!!!! I thought I would miss Cable. I haven’t missed it at ALL. The only thing I have missed is just turning on the TV and hearing noise. (weird right) I have to find something then select so I can get the background noise.

    Easy Firestick Install

I purchased the latest firestick to install on a new TV I’ve set up in a 3rd bedroom turned tv room and it’s been great. As long as you have wifi you’ll be able to get numerous channels and shows to watch and can eliminate any cable box. I have a cable/dvr box on my main TV so I can stream on this firestick as well. Pay one time with firestick purchase and eliminate monthly charges with cable. It’s a win win!

    Good product

We like the fire stick and have changed to them from the Roku’s we had on our TVs. Setup on fairly simple but does take sometime to get all your apps linked up. The Alexa feature is nice and it does well control our different devices on all our rooms.

Definitely works on OLD Costco TV

Was ready to ditch my 7 year old COSTCO SHARP TV. Remotes not working and streaming was sloooow and excruciating. This Firestick immediately plugged into the HDMI port and worked! Fast. Reliable. What a shock.Way better than using the original TV remote for streaming movies. Alexa voice search is included.

    Hate Amazon apps on it

The firestick is good. I prefer my own apps over the crappy amazon apps. I don’t have kids, don’t like their news streams, hate the amazon music app, hate the shopping app, etc. it won’t let you delete these amazon worthless apps. Have to constantly clear the cache these crappy apps add and force stop does nothing. But until I find something else it it works ok. Constant buffering is a problemat rimes.

Had to replace for your old fire stick. Replace it with the updated version with Alexa voice. Seems to work well I’ve noticed that the programs download quicker with the new fire stick. Clarity of TV and sound quality are very good.I hope it will last longer than four or five years.

Loved it and still do for the most part but…

My first firestick bought in 2021 gave me two years of good service before I hit the dreaded stuck loading screen and I followed all the procedures the net has to offer to get out of the block but sadly nothing worked. Still, it was enough of a value and lasted long enough that I was open to purchasing my new one. We’ll see how this one goes. Still cheaper than cable whatever the case 🙂

I had a non-smart tv! And this works great! Easily installed! Picture quality is great. Internet and streaming is quick and efficient.I haven’t tried to use voice recognition or Alexa. But, I am not disappointed! I plan on buying another one real soon for my kids room!

    Fire tv stick

I really like this fire tv stick because it has on/off switch and volume control. I was given a fire tv stick lite as a gift, but it has no volume or on/off switch, so this more advanced fire tv stick is much more useful.

Better then having to pay an internet service 5x as much as the damething this can provide for what I paid for it yes you’ll have to pay for some platforms. But you can’t really beat this. There’s a lot of buffering I think that’s just my internet provider tho…I like it…Alexa is also pretty cool too

    No more huge monthly bill!!

This is great device..extremely simple to use simply plug into your hdmi port and that’s it! Amazon prime video has a vast amount of content available.. I like it especially cause you pick what apps you want – you can add Netflix Hulu etc – I added 3 apps and my cable bill went from 230 a month to 40 dollars.. Alexa voice control works excellent. If your debating- get it and get rid of that ridiculous amount they charge for cable.. all you need is WiFi..

    Retraction to Previous Review

This is a retraction to the first review. From the beginning, I was disappointed with the device. I was having so many problems with it!For example, when I turned on the “on” button, the tv would not come on. And, Alexa, would not find the channels I requested. There were a number of issues. Several times, it said that the remote was not connected. I was constantly having to unplug the Firestick from the back of the tv in order to get it to work. That’s when I realized there was a problem with the remote. The batteries I was using weren’t strong enough!Really heavy-duty batteries, really heavy-duty, must be used to keep the remote working properly.Since figuring this out, I have not had many problems. Heavy-duty batteries were the key!So, I retract my previous review which was not favorable.I now have access to hundreds of movies and some of my favorite programs!I actually love the Firestick now!

    SAVE MONEY! DITCH CABLE!

This works perfectly with our Verizon phone plan. We actually have Disney+ Hulu, and ESPN plus included and we already had Netflix so we stopped paying the cable companies. We got a little bunny ear antenna from the store and just connected it to the TV so that way we would have local channels and we’re saving hundreds of dollars per month.

I had to change my review

Before a year, the device stopped working, it went on a booting loop and I can’t do anything to fix it. Tried all the online fixes provided by Amazon, changing the cable, changing the batteries on the control, and even changing the control itself, and it still doesn’t work. No support after 90 days and can’t return it. It just stopped working on its own, nothing was done to it, a new patch came down and it never booted up again. I enjoy my other Firestick but this one doesn’t work and Amazon won’t help me fix it or replace it._______________________________________________________________________________________________Apparently, I was not following the steps to contact the right department in Amazon but when I did they were super helpful, and after walking me through all the troubleshooting steps they were kind enough to send me a new fire stick to replace the one that was still stuck in the reboot cycle.

not only did this do the job i needed (replacing my old streaming device); it has actually made it so much easier to navigate with just the simplest installation!I do have an older samsung tv, vizio sound bar, alexa, smart lights and my streaming device.- my previous device was unable to connect to the other products i was using… which in my case, 3 remotes and 2 voice control device… the number of times i lost a remote or lost connectivity, i can’t go back.the fire stick was so easy to install that, i not only got it up and running in 30min. but i was able to slim down my remotes to 1 and it works with my alexa!too happy with this purchase that i may consider purchasing more amazon support devices

    Problems with the Offered rebates

I was offered a trade in promo. I have been trying for the past hour to print the rebate offer. The print option does not work. I snapped photos and tried to print. I was able to print the hazardous material photo but no luck with the mailing labels. My printer works fine, I downloaded and printed other items and my printer works well. I am extremely frustrated at this point. I will try again tomorrow but I am reluctant at this point to use a different computer. I am concerned because I have never experienced anything like this on my previous returns.

    Fast and enjoyable

My old Fire Stick was lagging. The shows would pixelate while watching or even the audio would keep going but the video would freeze. It was one of the original Fire Sticks, so I upgrade and purchased this one. This one has been amazing. Even in the room farthest from our WiFi router, it still works amazing. (I do not have WiFi extenders)The reason for only 4 stars is the remote update problem I have encountered. Occasionally it will say that the remote is updating, but it never finishes the update. I have to hit the home button to go back to the main menu. I have left my remote sitting in front of my TV until my TV actually went to sleep and still it said it was updating. This has only happened a few times, but otherwise overall we are very pleased with the latest version. The other neat thing about this version is that I can program in my TV to it. This way I only need 1 remote to turn on my TV, adjust the volume and watch all my streaming channels. That by itself is a plus for me, since it is in our bedroom and it is easy to only keep track of 1 remote.

Once you get past the aggravation of installation it’s good.

I purchased this for use on a TV in a spare room that gets very little use, so naturally I didn’t want to spend a lot of $$$. I have an Apple TV streaming unit for my main TV, which I prefer, but the Apple costs 3 or 4 times as much as this Firestick (depending upon Amazon’s price of the moment).Right off I’ll let you know that the Firestick works just fine. Once you find the apps you want (not as easy as with the Apple TV, BTW) you can stream your brains out. However, be advised that set up is rather frustrating and aggravating. Installing the Firestick is simplicity itself; just plug it in. The Firestick is a little too long to plug directly into the HDMI slot on my particular TV, but not to worry, the unit comes with an extension cord that’s just long enough to mount the stick and not have it hanging out in view or getting in the way of anything. But it’s the setup that’s the hair-pulling part. Probably the first thing you will encounter when you first turn it on is the software update. Like every other tech device it comes already in need of updating. Mine asked me to update 4 or 5 times. Were there really that many updates that needed to be consecutively downloaded and installed? Who knows? Then it takes forever to load, to the point where you start to think it has locked up. After coming close to deciding to pack it up and return it about 4 times, I finally got it fully installed and updated and functioning. Then I looked for my apps to load. This is not as straightforward as with the Apple TV, which just requires opening the App Store and browsing or searching for the apps you want. The Firestick shows you recommended apps, but not many and not some that should be front and center (having to search for YouTube? Seriously?). I was able to finally figure out how to find any app, but this could definitely be more straightforward.Once you have it working you should be pleased with it. I still prefer my Apple TV, but if it should die on me would I be willing to pay Apple’s price for a new one? The Amazon Firestick makes that a highly debatable question.

Easy setup. Feels like a brand new tv

This saved our TV. Our TV is a smart TV, sloooow Vizio that barely connects to wifi and laggs. We got a fire TV for the living room and I love it. Therefore I thought I give this a try for the kids room. The setup was extremely easy and fast. It has the option to set it on kids mode, which is great for the little little children. We set it on regular due to my kids being older. The remote let’s you search any movie/shows and is even searching Wikipedia to answer questions you have. Works instantly and going from app to app is very fast. I almost tossed our TV, but this totally saved us. It even comes with a internet browser and has any app you can think of. I recommend this to anyone! You can also change the volume. It basically does everything except for switching your input and changing TV settings. (Which is obviously not possible with a fire stick since it is plugged into a imput). Came with everything you need to instantly start using it. Love love love it!!!

    Updated my review.

I had the 4k model but that didn’t support extra internal storage. So i ended up getting the 3rd gen firestick (this one) and im happy with the performance and the ability to add internal storage using otg cable with power and usb flash drive of course. Don’t get me wrong the 4k stick was good and didn’t have lags nor didn’t have problems. But ny concern was that I didn’t know that the 4k stick didn’t support extra internal storage. The 4k max does but that brakes my pocket. Since im in a tight budget. The good choice i did was to switch to this one because it supports internal storage and its running fire OS 7 and no more long pressing on an app to move or uninstall. Im happy and honestly for 1gb ram it runs smooth and better than onn stream stick.Update: it’s been working great and batteries hasn’t died like most folks are stating. No issues on my end and runs smooth like butter.

    love my fire sticks!

Years ago when streaming began, I started out with the ‘other’ brands. None of them compare to the fire stick. I have one on each of my TV’s in the house. I also have an extra that I keep for when we go on vacation because you know as well as I do that there’s at least one day that is rains and you just want to hang out. I love how I can order and download all my favorite apps! I never have an issue with connecting. I do love that one remote now controls the stick and the TV. That was a HUGE improvement over the older versions. There’s nothing worse than having 10 remote controls laying around. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for flawless streaming!

    Remote

I am having to change batteries every two to three days in the remote. When I first started using it about a month after delivery, I had a box of new batteries on hand that I had gotten from Groupon. I didn’t think too much about it for the first several months. I attributed it to the fact that the batteries, though new, had been around for awhile. Once I used them up, I purchased new batteries, but it is still going through 4 to 6 batteries a week. Unfortunately, the return date has passed. The Firestick works fine. It is just the remote hat is the problem.

IT DOES WHAT IT’S SUPPOSED TO DO

Replacing an older model that just gave out after many years! This one will not last that long. It is cheaply made. Light thin plastic that feels as if you keep your finger on a button too long it might crack the whole device! Although I am already a Prime member and didn’t have to sign up with Amazon, I fail to see the need for such. I bought the product and let’s leave it at that! I was thrilled with the more expensive device-my tv determines the quality of my picture more than the device. And like always the bloating of your device with app/movie ads and trailers is still the norm. A basic item that may make it a year or two at the most. If there were kids in my home, the time would be six months to a year with normal wear and tear. If not for a couple of apps that I couldn’t add at all on my RUKU, I wouldn’t have gotten another Firestick.

Easiest to use tech I own

I could write a full essay on what I like about the fire stick. First, it was a breeze to set up. It’s literally plug in and let it do the rest. I couldn’t be happier with the set up, ease of use, only need ONE remote (the Fire remote). I can download what ever streaming app I want, ask Alexa anything and get a rapid response. I’m only sorry I waited so long to try this! Bye bye cable TV 👏

    Expensive but nice

The Amazon FireStick is a nice little product that I connected to my Roku Smart TV. Everything works pretty fine except the remote didn’t integrate properly with my TV. I can turn the TV on and use the volume controls on the FireStick remote but I can’t use the buttons to scroll over to the Computer HDMI connection while using the Roku TV. For this I have to use the Roku remote and I can use the FireStick remote for everything else. I also don’t think this product is worth the $30 that I paid for it. I would only buy this product when it goes on sale but I was doing a complete renovation for my bedroom and just wanted everything to come in so I could set everything up at once.

    A better option

After a not-so-good experience with the “lite” version of the firestick, we decided to spring for a few more bucks and try this one. So far, it is working much better than the other one. No doubt that a part of the occasional shortcomings is the learning curve for the user. Some streaming glitches, but often those are revealed later to be provider problems.

We had a used fire stick that had been given to us. We were always waiting on it to buffer and sometimes it wouldn’t even load. We decided to upgrade to this one. It works great. Very pleased with the Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote

The Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote is superior to the original CEO 700 Model Number W87C UN Amazon Fire Stick. The streaming speed and quality is impressive. Previously, I had to wait several minutes after clicking an App, for example, the PBS App. Sometimes, it would time out and I had to open the app again. Also, the special offer from Amazon was an incentive to upgrade to the new Fire Stick.

I like my Fire TV stick. Easy to set up and all you need is wifi. No cable.

I set mine up immediately with my favorite free apps. I use Roku, Tubi, Pluto, and any of a dozen free apps. I also get prime and sometimes I might sign up for a month of a pay app. I don’t stay with them because most of what I like to watch is on the free apps. With 5G internet with my phone included I am paying less than cable internet alone. 5G is pretty fast and pretty shareable within the home. I’ve never experienced buffering when running everything I own at once. I did that to test what the sales rep told me. I don’t know how you can stream on 6 devices at once, all on a different apps and programs but you can do it. I do not understand how that works. On the down side all that 5G radiating inside my home is brainwashing me. I need to order some aluminum foil before it is too late.

    Replacement purchase

I bought my first fire stick with voice control about a year ago. I love it. It gets a lot of use because I don’t have cable or any “channels” at all. Just apps on the stick. I guess due to the constant use, the remote is starting to fall apart. So instead of replacing the remote I just went ahead and bought a whole new fire stick. It’s well worth the money.

    Works ok, with issues.

I have owned FireSticks and Fire TV’s before. The Fire TV’s are the obvious best choice, having the software built into the TV itself. The FireStick’s are (used to be) pretty good. I never have issues watching movies and playing some games. However, the newer ones aren’t performing as well. This is the second “newer” one I have owned, and they don’t perform near as well as the older ones did. For starters, you have to buy special 3rd party adapters if you want to add a USB memory stick. Not having the adapter, and after you have installed the general apps allowing you to watch movies and tv shows, you’re left with around 1GB. And if you’re someone like me, who is disabled and not able to do much, other than watch TV all day; you want to download a few games to cure your boredom. Obviously, there are other things to do that would cure boredom, but I am very limited. As for performance; the sticks fall very short. Maybe it’s just the unit I received, as my previous one wasn’t quite as bad, but it is constantly crashing, it lags, the WiFi is very substandard (I have a gigabit connection which has a consistent 900Mbps, and the best I have gotten from this stick is less than 300Mbps on a good day), going back to the Home Screen after watching a movie takes far too long, etc.I am constantly having to go into settings and app management to clear the cache on every app. I’ll change the view to view the apps by size, and it will come back with two, three, sometimes more of the same app showing, and not all apps are shown. You have to exit the settings completely and try again, hoping it will correct itself. Sometimes it does, most of the time it doesn’t. And it builds up so much cache, that after a while, you won’t be able to watch movies or open apps as it tells you there’s not enough memory to perform that operation.I had to download a 3rd party app to complete the task. Even when the settings do work, I’ll go into the app, and the app will clear around 200MB of junk that the settings wouldn’t. So you’re almost forced to purchase one of the adapters so that it doesn’t crash. There are just too many issues involved, and it can be quite the pain.Don’t get me wrong, I love the Fire TV’s, and the sticks are usually pretty good as well, allowing you to watch movies on any TV. But I would definitely recommend getting a Fire TV instead of the stick. The ones I have found are very reasonably priced, and the performance by far outweighs the sticks! Being able to just plug in a memory stick is huge! You’ll have a much better experience.

The REMOTE DESIGN compare to previous gets a ONE STAR / Updated 11/22

I appreciate that I got this at a very good Prime Day price. I now have 3 Fire Sticks and am grateful to have them. This generation seems to work faster than the previous as well — scrolls faster, responds faster. I don’t generally use voice, because the previous version was horrid to even attempt, so I gave up long ago.Now here’s the rub. AMAZON, YOUR NEW FIRE STICK DESIGN IS A FAILURE. Here’s why:The new remote is great for those who never used the previous remote. The previous was more streamlined which made it easy to locate buttons without even glancing at it. The previous had fewer buttons so there was little confusion as to what you were pressing at any given time. The batteries were near the bottom of the remote which is where the bulk of the weight would rest perfectly in the palm of your hand. The NEW remote is the opposite of all of the above. First, there is no way I can find the play/pause button on this remote unless I physically look down at it. Even then, it’s smack dab in the middle of a square of NINE buttons, plus 5 more. The mute and live TV buttons are placed so that it’s easy to feel for them without having to stop to look at the remote (there is blank space below both). I am often pressing the wrong button when trying to play/pause. Yes, I could click the large round Select button at the top, but if on YouTube, it takes two clicks to pause, and the screen menu appears on the screen which takes yet another click to remove. All this means extra clicks (wear and tear) on the remote, extra battery power, and is a general annoyance. Now about the battery.. the batteries on the new remote are at the top which puts the bulk of the weight opposite of where most people hold the remote — either in the palm or with the fingers. I have dropped this thing numerous times already because it feels unbalanced and top-heavy. It is unnatural for the way we’re used to most remote controls. In addition, because I still have two other Fire Sticks with remotes that I still use, it is difficult to retrain my hands to use this clumsy, awkward stepchild of a remote just for this one device.Lastly, the new buttons for streaming services are nice to have, but not the greatest to have. If you truly have — and USE — all 4 services, this remote is made for you. Anything less than 2 or 3, and it’s just another device with useless functions. While I appreciate being able to single-click to Hulu, I would much rather go through the main menu and get rid of these excess buttons. PLUS, most remotes have a different colored Power button at the top. Between the fact that these buttons being at the bottom + the awkward weight distribution of the remote, I frequently mistakenly hold this remote the wrong way and end up clicking incorrect buttons. I’m watching a video on YouTube, and with one errant click, I’m in that wild maze of a Live TV menu, wonder where I went wrong in life.AMAZON, HERE’S WHAT TO DO TO IMPROVE THIS REMOTE:1. Move the batteries back to the bottom right at the area where most people hold the lower half of the remote in their palm. 2. Move the streaming buttons to the top of the remote. 3. Move the mute, volume up, volume down, and Live TV buttons down into a separate section AWAY from the navigational buttons. Leave blank space below the rewind, play/pause, and forward buttons so we can again find these buttons without having to turn on lights and look down at the remote. 4. A more complete transfer of previous Fire Stick data to the new Fire Stick would be appreciated — my transfer of data was incomplete. Why not allow a simply one-time cloning of apps via Amazon AWS so we don’t have to spend an hour reinstalling apps we’re used to?Until then, I’d like my money back or an exchange of this Fire Stick for an older generation like the other two I have. 1 star for the price, 1 star for the volume control, 1 star for speed. I’d take off more stars for the annoyances, however.UPDATE 11/2022:I still have the same bad review regarding the design of the new remote control. I STILL find myself grabbing it and holding it the wrong way which makes me click the wrong button (upside down, the forward button is mistaken for the rewind) and I use it daily. STILL hard to get used to. No product should be this difficult to transition to. NEW COMPLAINT: Actually, this is something I noticed right away, but can verify after extended usage. Occasionally, my Internet cuts out. On my laptop, I see that it is restored in about 1 minute. However, the Fire Stick takes upwards of FIVE additional minutes to have it’s connection restored. Of course, I can EXIT the app I’m using, go to Settings, and go through the network prompts to get it to reconnect, but c’mon… really? The old Fire Stick would reconnect as quickly as my laptop. There is something off with this new device. Please fix, then send me another for review. /// I still greatly appreciate the quick buttons (Hulu, etc.. although if you don’t use those services, the keys are useless and just more clutter) and the volume buttons.

    It works great!

I already had this version of the fire stick and my grams had the old version and hers died so we got her this version. The remote that came with her has preset buttons for directTV and PeacockTV but when you use those buttons they open Disney+ and Hulu just like my remote(which has those buttons marked as such) the product pictures do not show what preset apps they would be but the labeled buttons on said remote do not match the app they open. It’s only a hiccup in that my grams watches DirectTV all the time so we were kinda excited to see that button as a preset option for her but it does not effect the functionality of the remote or Firestick in anyway.

It works and I didn’t have to buy a new tv

We spent a bit of money on a plasma n 2014. The richness of color can’t be beat so when I ditched satellite I thought I was going to have to have a new tv. Fire stick prevented that. For $40 I have a nice remote and can access my YouTube tv, appletv, add apps for other channels and netflix. It’s not just for prime customers.
