Assessment after only a few days

As a new owner of the Echo Show 15, I have to say that I am thoroughly impressed with this smart display. Here are some of the key features that have stood out to me:Display Quality: The 15.6″ Full HD display is absolutely stunning. It offers bright, crisp images and vivid colors that make streaming videos, browsing the internet, or using the device’s other features a real pleasure.Sound Quality: The Echo Show 15 features a powerful set of speakers that deliver rich, immersive sound. Whether I’m listening to music or making a video call, the sound quality is top-notch.Alexa Integration: As with all Echo devices, the Echo Show 15 is powered by Alexa, which is one of the best voice assistants on the market. The integration is seamless, and I find myself using Alexa to set reminders, control my smart home devices, and even order groceries.Smart Home Integration: The Echo Show 15 works seamlessly with a wide range of smart home devices. I’ve connected it to my smart lights, thermostat, and security cameras, and it’s been a breeze to control everything with voice commands or through the display’s touch interface.Video Calling: The Echo Show 15’s camera is top-notch, and video calls look great on the large display. The ability to make video calls hands-free is a real game-changer, and it’s been a great way to stay in touch with friends and family.Overall, I am extremely happy with my purchase of the Echo Show 15. While it is a bit pricey, the large display, high-quality speakers, and seamless Alexa integration make it worth the investment for anyone who wants a top-of-the-line smart display.

    So Close

We have owned every echo device (including the short lived discontinued ones). This is replacing the latest and greatest echo device.Sound quality (music) isn’t as good but it is faster and more responsive to voice commands. We use it for smart home control so it’s important that it hears us and executed the right command and this does a good job.I like the widget for quick smart home commands, weather, calendar, and grocery list. It’s been an adjustment but it actually has features we use and improve our lives without having to change how we live too much.My daughter likes the novelty of watching her toddler videos on the “picture frame.”INSTALL: Doesn’t have to be that complicated. I planned to use a recessed power box (like behind a TV) but in the end I just bought a DC extension cable and plugged it in in the attic and ran the barrel Jack down. Install wS easy. I see a lot of power running 120v to it but DC power is much easier and makes a small hole vs a random single gang box in the wall. The mounting bracket is clever and so it can be rotated easily from portrait to landscape mode (and back again) in about 5 seconds. As others have mentioned: “walled off” systems are fine (think APPLE) but there’s a real lack of effort into what this device can do. Either app makers don’t want to or Amazon won’t let them. This has amazing potential as it’s a beautiful, good sized tablet, but the software isn’t there. MEATER, Hayward (pool), thermostat (ecobee), Disney+, foodnetwork, even Ring integration is just meh. The prime video is odd and non-traditional so I have to fight to find kids videos. The list goes on for apps that would be useful and really cool that aren’t available or are just odd abbreviated versions. The photo thing, which should be incredibly easy, is difficult and confusing. Amazon HAS TO HAVE complete access to my entire phone library to let me upload *some* images? This feels downright creepy…Amazon insisting that I upload everyone of my pictures or limiting me to 10 feels skeevy. This has amazing potential. I hope Amazon continues to improve and expand on developer integration.

Universal solution for communication with the elderly

As someone with an aging parent in assisted living, I have been struggling for years about how to solve the problem of efficient two way communication, with one way monitoring when the elderly resident has limited ability to figure out how to use a smartphone, answer a facetime call on an ipad, use a TV remote control or even reliably call a phone number. So after alot of trial and error, I found the Echo Show 15 hit the spot. I registered it under my amazon acct, not my moms. I was able to configure it so that the ONLY thing she sees on a continual basis on the home screen are two key things….a specific amazon photos album that i can easily add or remove items from on the fly as more pics of grandkids, etc arrive. And on the other side of the home screen is the NOTES widget. Using that, we can post and update a sticky note so that she is always able to know whether we are visiting today, any update on our status or plans. etc. The notes instantly update from my own alexa app regardless of where we are. Her anxiety level has plummeted as a result of not needing to ask of our whereabouts, status, change in plans etc…and she does not have to DO or TOUCH or interact with any device~..The last bit is the “drop in” communication tool in which our key family members can do a drop in video chat that automatically launches on her end, again without her needing to answer any device. Its obviously for those limited family contacts for whom this is not a privacy issue but it works perfectly. These issues of managing communication, managing the content visible on a device for someone in assisted living and not needing them to interact with physical devices as their capabilities decline is a universal challenge. The only thing missing is the ability for the alexa remote app to completely mimic the entire device so that one could control it as though using something like LogmeIn, etc. but maybe thats in the future

Preloaded Setup didn’t work, but found an Echo Reboot that finally worked to complete setup

The preloaded link to my account didn’t work. After going in 10 minute setup circle h**ll, I gave up and went to Amazon’s echo troubleshooting, as it would never ask me to hook to my WiFi, which seemed odd. Although I found nothing specific for this 15, I did find an echo reboot – it was a simple fix in the end!Just hold the mic / volume – buttons 15 seconds simultaneously to power off. Let it sit for what seemed like a long minute because I was excited to see this thing work! Restart in the same button sequence.Voila! The set up restarted again, but this time went to my WiFi and I was in business. Just a note I have terrific country internet, but it is not snazzy fast like the urbanites I know, so it took me 20 minutes to get through my updates. Alexa comments during the way and her screen shows too, so you don’t think you are lost in setup h*ll again. If you made it this far, Sidebars:Look at my Amazon provided mount pictures, the stand is included and is 1/2″ tall for wire space by the wall. If I had the wall space in my ancient 80’s kitchen, it would be nice. However, I did get a terrific stand that is sturdy, tilts, swivels portrait /landscape and takes little of my small counter space. Atophk Amazon Echo Stand was suggested during the Echo 15 purchase I made, is the one I’m used, comes in black or white..Don’t laugh at my house phone in the pic, its not a landline but hooks to my cell phones – super awesome while I am cooking/working to have a phone that actually stays on my shoulder like the “olden” times.

    It’s… ok.

Our first foray into the Alexa world – we got the Show and installed it on the wall in the kitchen. Here are the big points:1> the power cord is too short. Had to put an extension cord on it to reach the outlet behind the fridge.2> the home screen isn’t nearly as customizable as I want. I can’t get it to show what list I want it to show, to show all the items on a particular calendar day up front, or even a list of what’s for dinner. It will ONLY show the abbreviated calendar, a “To Do” list, a shopping list, and a sticky note. Not nearly the customization I want.3> VERY challenging to get it to show both my Amazon account and my husband’s without it automagically spoiling gifts that have been ordered.and 4> once you have this main unit, the “dots” feel super over-priced.Also, I thought I’d be able to use our phones as additional listening devices for commands but you can’t change the Wake Word on phones, just on the main devices. That’s also dumb – as is not being able to change it to whatever Wake Word you want to call your unit. I’m also finding it impossible to change to any of the advertised “celebrity voices”.I feel like I bought the first version of something that’s going to be really cool in a few years. Thing is, this stuff has already been out for a few years and is sill this rudimentary. Y’all need to do some better development.

Best Echo I Didn’t Know We Needed

I bought this for my wife as a gift. Turns out that we can’t do without it now. We love linking our photos from our phones to Amazon photos and automatically showing up on the echo show. The ability to pull up recipes, see our lists, and view the time left on timers is an added bonus! We love it and couldn’t do without it now.

    Almost great

Honestly this product is ALMOST the most AMAZING AWESOME product in the Alexa lineup… ALMOST! The problem is it almost so smart it is dumb to the point of making it useless at times. For example, more than one profile even though your on the same FAMILY account? Yeah… It knows who you are! It will call you by name! YAY! BUT! Will now tell you that you don’t have access to the things on your SHARED ACCOUNT! Which can be a minor inconvenience when trying to listen to the music you pay for in your Amazon Music account or a major one when trying to control your smart home or SECURITY SYSTEMS!The display of calendars, list, weather, and more make this an incredible family tool and if someone could get fix those software issues, I would think this would be the one MUST HAVE Alexa device!

    Not the best interface

Ok, I am revising my initially scathing review for nowMy initial impression of this device was not good.Aside from the setup which was easy and smoothMy initial impression of the interface is that it is slow and needs work. My main complaints are that the widget/favorites pane on the right sometimes does not respond when trying to hide it away ,also when you pop it back out by swiping in from the right it does not return to its original position but instead it slides all the way over to the left and takes up the whole screen ,I feel like it should be easier to use and have more graduations for instance you should be able to slide it over so it takes only a qauter of the screen as it shows by default , then be able to swipe and slide it more if you want to have the whole screen occupied by the favorites and widgets pane. Also had it get stuck on a suggested music screen, music was playing but there was no sound and I couldn’t get rid of the player screen which was full screen ,and I tried swiping every which way. Also there should be a better way to initiate the photo frame mode and keep it active.I am going to have to do a lot more setup to configuration of this device to evaluate it and tell what else needs to be improved. But I must say that upon leaving a bad review I was very promptly contacted by Amazon Alexa Customer support so I am very impressed at that and it feels good that they are actually listening to their users unlike a certain other tech giant with their own voice assistant that could really not care a bit about what their users think and who always seems to persist and double down on every horrible decision they make despite the overwhelming landslide of negative feedback.I am glad Amazon actually listens to their feedback and tries to respond to criticizism instead of just trying to silence and supress it.Hopefully user feedback will be considered and they will continue to improve the interface of this Device. And that reaching out to dissatisfied users is not the end of their response to criticism.Again I am thankful and impressed at Amazon reaching out , unfortunately my phone died during the call though.I will continue to research all the features of this device going forward and evaluate it and update my review accordingly.EDIT: I keep finding more flaws , for one thing the volume rocker is driving me crazy ,it seems like they have given priority to people who want to mount this in portrait mode ,which I can not imagine anyone wanting to do ,but whatever they should at least give some consideration to people who want to mount this device in a landscape orientation because the volume rocker seems like it is in reverse when it is in landscape orientationThe device should have an option in settings to transpose + and – volume on the volume rockerSure the buttons will then be labeled wrong but it just makes more sense to press the right most button and have the volume bar more to the right for vol up,and pressing the left most button to move the bar left for vol down like it is on every other echo device ,besides the fact that I have the device mounted at eye height as suggested so I can not even see the labels on the vol rocker buttons anyways. Also there is no way to initiate the on screen volume slider without pressing a button on the vol rockerAnd there is nothing assigned for swiping up from the bottom of the screen ,seems like a no brainer to just make swiping up from the bottom bring up the on screen volume slider. The smart home control menu is the worst part, it is the slowest most laggy part of the interfaceSliding over in my list of Devices stutters, jutters, and lags horribly and takes forever. And there are no dimmer or color controls for groupsJust off and on ,they need to add the option to be able to set brightness and color for a lighting group. This is a very big oversight ,I have a fixture that has 3 smart bulbs in it and it is impossible to control it easily besides on/off because the 3 bulbs can not be dimmed as a group and color can not be set.Another thing that I noticed is the active media controls which I think are actually very good ,but lacking in one critical area.If I have media playing,Pandora for example and I adjust the active media settings to change where the music is being played,on which devices ,it will navigate away from the Pandora screen ,the one with the thumbs and down arrows and then there is no way to get it back up unless you move the music to play on the device again ,I think there should be an option to see the full interface and bring it back up for active media even if it is not playing on the device itself, I discovered this by moving music currently playing on the show 15 on Pandora to another device and then to the everywhere group ( to which I have not added the echo show 15 to yet) and there was no way to get the full Pandora interface screen back up unless I moved the music back to playing on the eaho show 15.

    Alexa out of your way

I am very impressed with the quality of this product. In fact, I ordered a mount and ended up having to send the mount back because the included mount works just fine.I use this one in my kitchen and I did not want the echo taking up counterspace. It is very nice that this has an integrated. . It is very nice that this has an integrated fire TV.Now, if I could only get the system to react to the built-in motion detection in this echo.Very highly recommended. Display is bright enough to use daytime.

    Review what you need

I did a lot of research before buying this Echo Show reading comments and articles about features and uses and how it compared to what I was looking for. The short answer, this is a voice controlled amazon fire tablet. Yes, it is convenient for creating shopping lists (can be difficult) and watching free TV through prime (freevee, my favorite part) but that is about the limit. I was hoping for this echo show to integrate with my ring security system, and the most I can get it to do is show live feeds. Make sure you do your homework before buying. I don’t regret this purchase, but I don’t know that I would have bought it knowing what I know now.

Decent Hardware hamstrung by predictably lackluster Amazon software

Pros: Decent, not great, hardware. Screen is bright and visible. Video playback was smoothCons: Software is severely limiting what this device could do. Widgets are half baked and not customizable. Entire User Experience is frustrating for anyone that wants something more than the default settings.I really really wanted to like this device. I’d been searching around for other options for a wall mounted smart display for over the past year, and was about to finally buy a DakBoard when I saw the Echo Show 15 announced. My goal is to have a centrally located screen in our kitchen area that can tap into our Family calendar to display upcoming events, a few smart home controls ie our Nest Thermostat, and a few helpful widgets like displaying my commute to work every morning as I prep my coffee. In theory the Echo Show 15 does all this, but none of it well. The calendar does tap into my Family Google Calendar, but the way it displays upcoming events is to show “No Events” on every day we don’t have something scheduled. So if its Monday, and we have a dinner reservation Friday, but no other events mid-week, that Friday reservation is hidden in a list of days with “No Events”. Days with “No Events” should be hidden by default, or at least by user setting. Theres little utility for a calendar which favors days I have no events, over the days I do have important events scheduled. The Nest Thermostat did integrate seamlessly, however again Amazon made a questionable UX decision where to access it you have to slide down from the top screen and enter a second Smart Home panel, instead of allowing this to be a permanent widget on the home screen. The functionality is there, but again the utility is reduced. I assume the decision was for people to use the “Alexa!” voice command, but I imagine most buyers of this device prefer screen interaction, otherwise would just buy an Echo Dot.Same goes for the Commute widget. Once set up, it does work, sort of. The widget will display the commute, but seems to only update randomly as best I can tell. It has a “last updated” note on the widget which often is more than a half hour ago from when I need it. I believe it updates as I enter the room, but doesn’t update again until I tap the commute widget or ask “Alexa, how long is my commute”. Worst of all, in classic Amazon software fashion, instead of just having a widget that consistently updates, the widget is often hidden by “Try “Alexa, how long does it take to drive to Los Angeles?”” A fun gimmick to entertain your kids, but again it feels like some bloat ware encouraging you to interact with the device in a variety of ways that aren’t useful. Reminds me of the dreaded “…By the Way” that follows everything I ask my Echo Dot to do.Same goes for the home screen. Instead of having a home screen full of widgets, 1/3rd of the screen is reserved to displaying a photo with the Time and Temperature. While its nice to have a hub that can double as a photo frame, at no point do I really want it to do both at the same time. Maybe some users do, but again the fact its the default and not user customizable just stunts the experience. You can remove the things that rotate in this space (sports scores, recipe ideas, upcoming deliveries) but as expected for an Amazon device, it gets flooded with not-so-subtle ads like prompting you to buy Blue Apron when all you really wanted was meal inspiration for dinner. The price point makes this an accessible, albeit novelty, device that could be useful to a limited group of people, but even the hardware is hard to justify the price. The screen is decent, but nothing more and doesn’t hold a candle to even the basic iPad. The camera is straight up terrible by 2021 standards. The speakers are what you might expect from a slim all-in-one monitor. The hardware would be tolerable if the software made up the difference, but software seems to be an incredibly lacking. If you want to get a sense of frustrating experience of using Amazon software, just open the Alexa app on your phone and try to navigate anything beyond what is on the home screen. The software on the Echo Show 15 was definitely built by the same sub-par designers. In the end, I’m going to see if theres a way to sideload an alternative operating system on this display – it seems to be running Android so I feel theres hope. I’ll hold out returning until the end of the return window incase there are some updates, or third party widgets released. But if all stays the same, this will getting returned and the search for a useful hub will continue.

So far so good and yes you can get rid of annoying scrolling adds on echo show

So I just finished setting up echo I have a lot I like and some things that are annoying but fixable. I read a lot of reviews before purchasing and decided to gamble and get the echo show 15 but I guess we will see how in a few months if it’s still working properly and I will update if not. First off lots of reviews on the annoying adds and things to try constantly scrolling. I like most on here wanted just my widgets on the right and a loop of my photos on the left but with all echo show products Amazon feels the need to show you “things to try” and what they consider “trusted news sources” and stuff like that, I’m not a huge fan of their trusted news sources so this drove me nuts having to see those headlines. So there is two parts to fixing this problem so you can get a loop of just photos or whatever you actually want to see pop up on the left. Fist you swipe down on echo show and go to settings, then you click on home content, now you go down the list and turn on and off what you want to see and what notifications you want, be careful what you click I accidentally turned off notifications for my ring which I did not want to do and I had to go back and figure out what I clicked to turn them back on. Now to get rid of the annoying “things to try” windows that constantly pop up! Go to your Alexa app on your phone go to settings then click on notifications and then scroll all the way down to “things to try” and click on it, now you just have to disable it off of your phone and devices and tada you now have gotten rid of annoying adds and things to try and should just have a loop of your photos and whatever else you enabled. That seemd to be the biggest complaint I saw about this device and I agree it’s super annoying second was the remote issue annnnd I have no fix for this all I can say is I only had to use it when logging into all my video streaming accounts and I normally know what I want to watch and I just say echo play this movie or that show however if you want to scroll through Netflix because you don’t know what you want to watch it seems you have to use their on screen remote which I would assume would be annoying, not sure who thought that was a great idea and to not allow us just to simply tap the screen and scroll with our finger so hopefully they realize how much everyone hates it and fixes it other than that I don’t have to use the remote for anything else just some video streaming skills and that’s about it. I do love the layout on the screen (once I fixed it) and I love the widgets I also got a movable tv mount and plan on hanging the echo show from the top of my cabinets like I saw others on here do to keep it safe from water and damage since it’s in my kitchen. So other than that so far so good I definitely will update however if I start to have crazy issues like others on here have had

    Good Concept That Needs Work

Overall I’m digging the new Echo Show, but with new comes flaws. One of those is the screen brightness, needs to be brighter. The screen on this one isn’t as bright as the one on my Echo Show 10 2nd Gen. I’ve also noticed that some songs are louder than others such as those directly from Amazon Music, bring the volume up to match the louder songs. Could have done away with the band around the screen for more screen area, but I’m guessing this will be done on the next Echo Show. The screen could also be more responsive and load items faster. Looking forward to the updates. Until then, I’m going to enjoy it’s potential. Love the vivid colors and picture and adding more brightness should make this awesome. On the design side of things, It’s clear to see the Echo Show is heading in the right direction. Loving the more flat panel TV feel. I couldn’t leave out something I’ve been hoping for the longest time that Amazon would get worked out in a update that’s a serious issue with all of my Echo Show devices and that’s the content I have on the screen closing on it’s own. Hopefully one day Amazon will address this in a future update so that anything on the screen stays there until the user closes it. This is especially true with the new Echo Show 15 which has maps. Please fix this issue in a near future update. Happy to see that Amazon has added widgets, not just to this new device but they are also being found on the Echo Show 10 2nd Gen, however 10 2nd Gen doesn’t include maps, or at least not as yet. Hopefully one day Alexa will be the next Google Assistant of the future. “Update”, I’m going to have to cut back a star on this one until Amazon get the kinks worked out of it. It becomes more and more frustrating to have to repeat myself to something that I have put so much money into. Please Amazon fix this and all Echo Show devices so that the content we open on the screen stays open until we the buyers of your product close it. Please install an X button, close button or something. Fix these things and I will give five stars gladly. In my most humble opinion, the customer should be happy not frustrated.Update (12/17/2022). This unit has gotten better through the Amazon updates and I for one hopes that it will continue on this path that it is on right now. I especially like the Fire TV integration, the sound has even gotten better on this thing, however I hope that this is something that Amazon will continue working on. I hope to see Dolby Digital in a near future update, especially now that the Echo Show 15 is sporting Fire TV. Still need to work on putting the X in menu items so that this will be what it will take to close menu and apps, etc out and not allowing them to close while you are still trying to use them. This is highly annoying. All in all, the latest updates has given me hope again with the Echo Shows and I still hope that the older models will not be left out. One quick thing that I also want to mention is that, what Amazon should have done with this design as well, added a optical audio cable port, especially for those of us with the Amazon Music unlimited accounts. This would have allowed us to get even more of that rich sound when music, etc is played in HD quality and beyond. Hopefully they will note this very important step forward in future designs. Update 7-16-2023. This product was working so much better, however after an update somewhere along the way I can no longer skip and repeat songs using the same Bluetooth headphones I’ve always used. It will also not pause songs like before. Please fix this Amazon.

Apple TV unavailable on Echo Show 15

Totally bummed that I can’t download AppleTV! I can download it on my fire stick and yet not on this device. Other streaming apps are available, so this was a complete surprise. I contacted customer support and was told they would forward it to the development team to look into.

    Nice job Amazon!

Sturdy, intuitive, nice interface, Amazon does it again, simple to use like all Alexa Show products. We have at least 10 Amazon echo/show products. Being able to mount on wall and flat frame configuration work very well in areas where you have available wall space. Highly recommend. And remodels or new construction, be sure to allow ample depth in the wall for wallplug in order to mount flat on wall.

    Bigger, better – no question

This is the third Echo show unit I’ve purchased. I initially started with the Echo 5 which I put at the bedroom nightstand. Good for night music as well as reminders for the morning. It was so good at all that I got the 8 for the kitchen and it’s just a super handy hub for recipe ideas, some targeted news, weather, and reminders – like I will never forget my GF’s birthday (or her kids) for life. It’s voice recognition is way better than Siri. And it just seems designed to anticipate home task oriented questions really well.I just mounted and installed the 15 (under counter) in the kitchen and will move the Echo show 8 into the living room. I live alone so I don’t use any of the more “family oriented” functions like the intercom or sharing family schedules. But man even as one person it’s just super useful. The Echo 15 set up in a few minutes, pretty much without much input from me.This is just a little bit Jetsons where I can ask it random stuff like who won the Oscar for best supporting actress in 1954, what is Joey Logano’s net worth, who won the Nobel prize in economics last year. Just a hoot! It’s a great technology and the 15 just shows a lot more information – like a daily control center for what’s going on. Highly recommended.

Decent addition to an Alexa home

Received date 21-NovReview date 23-NovHave had the Show 15″ for 2 days now, mounted it on day two and have been using it a bit for the last day and a half. I will update this review after I have had it for a while but these are my initial thoughts (all scores based on 1-5 stars):Screen – a 4.5; a nice big screen, looks very good. I think the white border around it is a little large and maybe it could have been slightly smaller. The video on it is nice though. I logged into my YouTubeTV account through Silk and watched TV, was a very nice experience.Sound – about a 3 or 3.5; this may be the most debated item in the reviews. My wife and I think the sound is fine. Is it the same as our Show 10 or our Sonos speakers? Nope. Is it good enough? Sure is, I don’t think this is supposed to be the foundation of your sound system. Part of it may be where we have it mounted. We had a spot on the wall where our calendar was (yes we still used a wall calendar every year) hung. Since this is likely taking the place of that we put it there, so the speakers have the wall right behind it. The sound is decent enough when mounted like that. If you are demanding about your sound and need concert level sound out of every device, it will not satisfy you.Touch screen – about a 3; I work with touchscreens for a living so I know how a touchscreen should respond. The Show 15 is not up to par with modern touchscreens. I am not sure if it is because of the processor (more on that in a bit) or if it is just a poor touchscreen. But it should register touch a lot better for the technology era we are in.Voice commands/voice recognition – about a 3; as with every Alexa device I have owned since the very first original Echo (the tall, black cylinder back in 2015) the voice commands/recognition is not the best. It can be confusing on what command to give (my wife just tried “Computer, softer” to lower the volume and it could not understand the command) and it sometimes misses it’s wake word. It also should be able to do some simple things like tell it what bookmark to open in Silk. The command of “Computer, open TV bookmark in Silk” is met with the old “Hmmm, I don’t understand” reply. Come on Amazon, I could do that 5 or 6 years ago with my computer so the technology is there.Integration – about a 4; I have Ring cameras and to have them on my home screen and the ability to activate them with voice or touch is a nice addition. And of course integration into the Alexa universe if great as it should be. However, the integration with my Sonos system is a little lacking. I may need to work on that and tweak it to get it to work better but I would think it would be better out of the box.Speed – about a 2; the speed is atrocious on this thing. I bought it with the promise of it getting a FireTV like upgrade but I do not see how that will be anything worthwhile unless they are currently throttling the CPU and will inlock it when the update comes. It should be much snappier to do things like change screens, open apps (like Silk), and just generally do tings. Now, some it may be the touchscreen response (like I mentioned above) but voice commands also lag. This ting should be much speedier but I guess that is not on the list of things to do, just get it out he door.Mounting – 5; I chose to wall mount with the included mount (see pic). Mounting was a breeze, everything is included with the unit, and the instructions are pretty simple. A word of warning, there is a video on Amazon that shows different anchors than what I received. Is shows the white self-drilling “screw in” anchors that are quite good anchors but the video shows you tap them in with a hammer – DO NOT DO THAT. The whole pint of those anchors are to screw them into the drywall, if you hammer them in it will destroy the drywall and they won’t hold. The ones I got were the familiar expansion anchors and they seem to work fine. Depending on where your outlet is you may need to purchase the “Made for Amazon Extension Cable, 6′ Length, for Echo Show 15” by Sanus. We had to, and it is well worth it. I was able to run the power in a WAIP (Wife Approved Installation Path). The bracket allows for a nice solid mount and I can easily lift the unit off and rotate if needed (but we likely never will).Overall the unit is nice. My scores average out to a 3.57 but I will give the extra half star to the unit because it is a nice looking unit and seems to do what I intend to use it for – TV in the kitchen, a shopping list that is always available and easily added to, music, and a family calendar that is easily updated and seen.I would recommend a purchase at the $169 price point especially if you are already invested (even slightly) in the Echo ecosystem. Not sure that the unit is worth the full asking price though, although after the holidays when I have done all my cooking with it I may change my mind.

    Integrated well into our home

9 months in and I enjoy this products. I like the customization of the home screen and the screen quality. I dont use the fire tv but it is nice to have. We have a fire stick on our main tv in the same room. Great for ring doorbell. Automatically shows the front door camera when someone rings the bell. Use it for monitoring 4 cameras on the property. Use it for home automation controlling lights. Have an echo in the bedroom and they work well to differentiate turning on the light in the room that you’re speaking in. I definitely feel this is future proof and look forward to the upgraded ai Alexa with LLM. And i also use the video profile so it knows what content i like to see when it recognizes my face.I feel that this was a great purchase and I enjoy the information displayed. Weather and time. Delivery info. Modernizes the room also.

    WOW!!!

We bought the Echo Show 8 at the beginning of the Covid pandemic and also got one for each of our adult children. This made calls very enjoyable and kept us all in good spirits. Being retired we use the Echo every day for a multitude of things and have grown to love it. We decided to upgrade to the Echo 15 for the TV option and the increased size. All I can say about the 15 is WOW. Picture quality is superb as is the sound. Weather, sports scores, recipes and the family calls are part of our everyday Alexa experience. Bought on sale during Prime Days and traded in the old Echo 8 for a super deal. Bought a monitor bracket to get it up off the kitchen island and it’s just a great addition.

Some Pros & Cons of the Echo Show 15, Full HD 15.6″ Smart Display w/Alexa

I received the Echo Show 15 as a gift from my boss (a company perk), who had tried it out and thought it was worth the $250 price tag. However, I am not really a gadget type person, nor am I a person that has ever relied on voice technology as I believe that we, as humans are becoming more and more lazy and, utilizing voice technology is another example of that laziness…come on you can’t stop and type a message out?Anyway, I set it up the same night I brought it home. The Echo Show 15 is pretty impressive with it’s 15.6″ screeen and the picture quality is quite beautiful. It is also heavy, from researching it, it weighs 4 lbs and 4 oz. and I was actually afraid to have it fall or drop for fear of hurting and/or damaging it and whatever it fell onto.My boss thought that I should mount it somewhere in my kitchen. However, I have a fairly small house and there is actually no wall space in my kitchen that would hold a 15.6″ device. That same night I ended up purchasing the All New, Made for Amazon Tilt and Swivel Stand as shown in the picture. I received it a couple of days later and it is pretty cool. You can turn the Echo vertically or horizontally and it sits fairly well on my kitchen counter. When I started looking at the Echo features it did and still does take some getting used to. It’s definitely not like Apple devices, the technology is just not there yet and it has some limitations. One thing I didn’t know is that you have to download the Alexa app so that you can communicate between the two. You can sink any of your other devices (Ring camera, smart lightbulbs, to name a few) through the Alexa app and tell the Echo what to do, or you can actually talk to the Echo using Alexa voice commands.Using the Alexa voice commands is somewhat tricky because what you may think is something that we, as humans would not have to explain in any detail, Alexa doesn’t. You have to be very specific in what you are asking “her” to do or find. You can’t just say play a song or open an app you have to, 1 – call her name and 2 – say very clearly what it is that you want her to do, which means you may need to make your request in several commands. That takes some getting used to.Back to the Echo, the device does not turn off…there is no on or off button/switch. As it does not turn off, it is constantly “listening” to everything being said by humans and any other speaking device, like the t.v. That’s a little disconcerting. You can design the home screen from the factory settings. I believe the original screen had 6 different “widgets” that were exactly the same size, I changed the displayed and I reduced it down to 5 as shown in the picture.I am not going to go over every feature the Echo has, there are YouTube videos that show, in quite a bit of detail, almost all of the features the Echo Show 15 has. I will review a couple of other features that I thought were interesting.I currently subscribe to Amazon Prime Music and have created several playlists. I thought that since I had Amazon Music and the Echo Show 15 was an Amazon product, that the two would seamlessly connect together. That is so not the case. When you want to play music, the Echo has lots of music channels and in order to get your music to play your Amazon playlist you have to have an Amazon family music subscription, which was an upgrade for me with more of a monthly expense. Then you have to tell Alexa to play the specific playlist from your music library. This is one feature that I find most annoying. Also the Echo will play Spotify or possibly other music apps, but you have to link your account to the Alexa app in order to play that music. My last review is in the “widgets”…the selections are very limited, especially if you want to watch a movie. It doesn’t have access to HBO Max or Disney+, to mention a few, but it does have Netflix and Amazon Prime Videos as well as YouTube. It took a while to find the movie widgets and I still haven’t learned how to attach them to my home screen.Overall, the Echo Show 15 is a very nice device that definitely comes in handy when I’m cooking and want to listen to some music. I can pull up YouTube music videos or play music from my Amazon playlist. My kids have had some fun using it as well. Mostly it just sits on my kitcher counter waiting for me to tell it to do something. I honestly don’t believe I would have spent $250 on it but since my boss was so kind to buy one for me why not take advantage of the gift? Thanks for taking the time to read this long and sometimes rambling review.

Good, but just short of Great

Amazons latest attempt to integrate itself in the homes of millions is a solid addition, however there are some areas that feel like the form factor has taken a step back from the previous generation. With the introduction of the original Amazon Echo, Amazon set to make a smart speaker that could be a personal assistant to whoever was in speaking range. That simple concept has evolved into a smart home hub, that has a seemingly limitless amount of opportunity to make the lives of its users easier. So why does it seem that with each iteration and new device that includes Alexa, the voice assistant gets worse? The particular device seems to be in near constant desperation to hear the phrase “Alexa”, that more frequently is hearing what is simply not said and speaking aloud random information unprompted. Annoying? Yes. A deal breaker? That’s for you to decide. Personally, the convenience of have my security system set, lights turned on, vacuum set to clean, and thermostat cooling my family down in the sweltering Arizona heat all without have to get up or using a bunch of different apps is a dream come true. Sure there are issues with the AI, but once you get it set correctly and over a period of time it learns more about you and the things you are likely to ask it, the issues become less frequent, but never less annoying when they do happen.Back to the Echo Show 15″, having previously owned two older generations I think this is the best looking one yet. Its sleek design, with “healthy” bezels, give it the look of a very premium digital photo frame. The device is meant to be hung on a wall of out the box, and for the first time you are able to decide if you would like it horizontal, which is great for showing pictures, or vertical, which can help display lists, recipes, and more. An option accessory from amazon can allow you to turn it at a moments notice as well, which is a very nice touch that frankly should have been built directly into the device. The screen is… good. Not great, certainly not an OLED screen, but the size of the device and main use cases do not call for the highest resolution. Until you realize a big feature is displaying photos. and for the price, I definitely have to knock it as there are better photo frames for around the same price. However, when taking into account everything else this device is capable of, it makes up for the lack of a crisp high res screen. Then again, being a photographer does make me more critical of the screens I see my images on. I am sure mothers wanting to display their kids photos will be more than happy with the “almost” comically large screen. My biggest grip with the screen is the fact that it is a touch screen, and not a very good one. The screen is a fingerprint magnet and with the widgets or shortcuts on the screen at all times its just begging to be touched. I suggest using your knuckles to avoid smudging the screen. Another annoyance I found with this device is how slow/unresponsive the touch screen can be at times. My previous Echo Show, while not a speed demon by any means, felt like it respond to my manual inputs quicker. Whereas this device is very sluggish at times. Having a $249 price tag should include a zippy and speedy system. The sound is… also good. Audiophiles need not buy though. Amazon has a different product in mind for people looking for the best sound they produce. The device can get loud and fill a room, but the sound feels like it lacks depth, because it does. Gone are the sub woofers from the previous generation that made the music feel whole as a sacrifice to make the device as slim as it is. It is a shame considering that an older device had better sound quality and amazon decided to segment their products into two.Overall, the device will work for your average family looking to add a personal hub for their home. Its design is very nice, the Alexa AI is great… when it wants to be, and the cost isn’t very outrageous. The days of simply asking for the temperature or to play a song have been superseded by requests to video chat, watch Netflix, or monitor your outdoor cameras (all of which are possible to do on this device). Amazon is marketing this product to those who enjoy a nice big screen to layout all the information you need. If audio is important, I suggest looking at the Echo Studio with its 360 degree and Hi-Fi speakers or connecting the Echo Sub to this device. I upgraded because I wanted to a digital photo frame and this one just so happens to do a lot more. If you are thinking of upgrading keep in mind what has improved and what has not. And consider amazons trade up program, its a pretty good deal.

    Love this echo show.

I have Alexa all over my house including door bell that links to all of them so the door bell goes off all over my house which I like. I’ve been using my phone in my kitchen for so long. So when I bought this I was so happy when it came. I can display my photos. I can look up recipes. I can listen to music and even watch my t.v. shows while I clean and cook. I’m so happy with my purchase. It even has games on it that my little one can enjoy while we cook together.

It works well enough, though with many cons.

I originally bought this as a bathroom wall display for its clock, weather info, Ring camera integration, and YouTube capabilities so I could avoid bringing my phone into the bathroom for those purposes. Instead, I ended up using it as a kitchen sink display.First, the good things:• Works well enough as a TV for watching YouTube by my kitchen sink while washing dishes or preparing food. I could use my iPad Pro for that purpose, but the screen on this thing is larger. I leave the original clear wrap on it to keep it from getting dirty or wet.• It gives you access to your Ring Cam video streams without needing to pull out a phone that can be controlled via Alexa voice commands.• It gives you weather information at a glance and can give you additional information like tomorrow’s weather via Alexa voice commands.• It supports wireless Bluetooth earbuds like my Google Pixel Buds Pro with noise cancellation. However, the controls don’t work fully to do things like start and stop playback of a YouTube video and the default Echo Show 15 sound settings have to adjusted, otherwise YouTube even at max volume still won’t be particularly loud.• It supports 5 GHz Wi-Fi connectivity.• It has a prominent clock.• The screen powers down automatically when nearby lights are shut off, even when the camera blocking shutter is closed. (On the other hand, if you never turn the lights out, the screen remains perpetually on.)Unfortunately, this thing has all kinds of other problems:• It’s the only electronic item I have where the plug doesn’t fit properly into my wall outlets, so the cable simply falls out of the wall at the slightest touch.• I bought the optional Alexa Voice Remote, but the remote seems like an afterthought. It makes the YouTube app usable, but doesn’t allow control over things like the network settings screen, which operates using a touchscreen interface only. Unfortunately, there’s no way to know what can and can’t be controlled with the remote short of trying to use the remote and seeing nothing happen.• To drill home that it was an afterthought, the remote has a home button that doesn’t actually take one to the Echo Show 15 home screen, but to the Fire TV home screen, like it was only designed with Amazon’s Fire TV software in mind.• The YouTube app is only accessible through a carousel widget, which means you have to wait for YouTube to rotate into view before you can press it or manually scroll the carousel, which can sometimes get stuck and refuse to rotate until the unit is disconnected from power. There’s no way to simply create a static YouTube app icon. This seems designed to force users into viewing Prime Video content, which is a bit bizarre since I’d only want to watch a full-length movie on my actual TV, not this tiny screen.• It doesn’t support Traditional Chinese in the UI which can be inconsistent if you use Prime Video and YouTube with a Traditional Chinese UI like I do. It supports Japanese, so this doesn’t seem to be a character set issue. (This may be because Alexa doesn’t support Traditional Chinese.)• Alexa can be configured to use male voices (despite the feminine name), but there’s no young male voice for those that prefer that.• It has a microphone mute button with an unintuitive icon/button: a circle with a slash through it. I had to consult Google to figure out what it does.• It doesn’t seem to support DHCP; if I switch routers and the new router uses a different IP addressing scheme but has the same network name and password, it can’t connect without manually forgetting the existing connection and reconnecting. This can leave you in an unconnected state with no idea why your device isn’t connecting.• Every time the network state changes, you need to input your Amazon password and a two-factor authentication code. This extra security check sometimes inexplicably happens after a significant delay which begs the question as to whether it’s actually offering any security.• Like everything Amazon, the password input screen defaults to showing your password in plaintext; you have to manually select an option to conceal your password.• It only supports WPA2 wireless encryption, not WPA3 like, say, Amazon’s eero Pro 6E router.• Certain screens like the clock settings screen inexplicably require an Internet connection to access or otherwise perpetually display a loading indicator.• There’s no official Amazon stand for the unit; you need to buy a third-party stand if you have no wish to wall mount the unit.

Lack of Amazon thinking hampers it

Amazon did their best to get this returned to them.I bought it with the remote but for some reason Amazon don’t seem to understand how to have some “boxed with the remote” and some without! They impressed me by delivering it on the same day as I ordered it and then undid all of their work by sending the remote as a separate item via U.S.P.S.I’ll bet you can guess what happened next can’t you “dear reader?”Yep! The Alexa arrived but the remote didn’t and ended up stuck for 24 hours in B.F.E!The Alexa show works, but not well without the remote and it finally arrived 48 hours later and after I received a generous discount not to send it all back for a complete refund. An example? Trying to sign into Netflix without the remote demanded a phone number(which I’ve never given them) but with the remote wanted a traditional email address and password.Once everything was delivered it is a pretty good experience with one or two exceptions.Alexa Show was easily integrated with the house finding smart switches etc without any effort on my part. I had to tell it which wifi to connect to but that was all.I have other Alexa’s in the house but because of that I can’t say what it would be like to set up as an only or first unit. The touch screen works fine and it seems to be easy to customise Alexa Show to individual requirements. If you are reading this and have either noticed my user name or spelling then perhaps you will understand an issue on the “Fire tv” side….Being from another country I don’t watch your “party political broadcasts” so CNN, Fox News are of no use to me.I tend to watch Sky News from my home country and……………. Despite there being an icon for it….It is not available on Fire tv, nor is BBC news. Why not Amazon?I can get these news services on all other streaming devices! Including Youtube, and BBC on an Alexa Dot as a news roundup.Streaming on the Alexa show is good with a great picture but be prepared for gaps with some streamers.I also uploaded my photo’s from my phone and a P.C to Amazon photo’s. to display on the “Show” as a screen saver and there I encountered another problem. There are no filters! The photo’s display on the show and look very good however there appears to be no way to stop the Alexa showing every one of them.So on the one hand you have an online storage and display system for your personal photo’s but on the other you have no way of choosing which pictures are displayed. In my case I had pictures on my phone where I needed to document a car accident (not my fault) for an insurance claim and these were all shown on the Alexa over and over. Surely it can’t be that hard for Amazon to build a user filter for Alexa Show users???Good job I don’t have “risky” photo’s!I have had to go into the cloud and delete the pix I don’t wan’t displayed, which of course defeats the purpose of online storage.Despite the problems above I have been very impressed with the Alexa Show 15.It is honestly a fantastic addition to the Alexa family and I am very pleased with it.I think the reader can see that it’s problems are not with the device itself but rather Amazon’s lack of thinking about how it might be used.

Great product now that Fire TV built in is installed on it.

I wouldn’t have bought it if it didn’t have FireTV builtin but that adds a lot more functionality. Of course it has Amazon Prime Video. I was also able to install Peacock, Paramount Plus, Philo, HULU and You Tube TV for streaming . I was able install Tablo app so I can watch OTA TV and recorded videos I wasn’t able to install the hdhomerun app to use that DVR. In FireTV and click find and search for hdhomerun it brings up the App store and shows the hdhomerun app but it says not available. I seen this for several other apps that I have on my FireTV sticks and Fire Tablets.I started out with out a remote but it gives the option in setup to purchase a remote for $9.99 a $29..00 value. I used the alexa app on my fire tablet it enable the Show 15 to live view my two Blink cameras. I haven’t tried to view the recordings from them though. I haven’t been able to find a way to install apps from unkown sources so I could add the apps that the apps store shows but says inavailable.I bought this mostly for the photo frame, clock, calendar and weather widgets and the FireTV. I would like to use the photo frame app full time but it only runs for about and hour then goes to the home screen with all of the widgets displayed. It still has a smaller window with the photos displayed. I think you can only have it display photos from Amazon Photo and Facebook. I wish you could put them locally or somewhere on the home network for privacy. It took quite a while to upload the photos to Amazon Photos and that was just the ones that I had on my phone. I haven’t seen any place that it tells how much memory is on the Show 15. I think it is on 8 or 16 Gb Also there is a Micro USB port but no mentions as to what it’s for. I tried to connect a usb drive to it but I don’t think it was detected. It might just be another way to power the device with using the supplied power brick.

Echo Show 15 with Alexa Voice Remote (3rd Gen) and Tilt Stand

Picture quality is good, responsiveness definitely could be better. I expected more from widgets. Pictures are distorted. Favorites > Camera are boxes and are truncated. Better design coding for cameras in widgets and favorites would be appreciated. Works great once you go live with 1 – 4 cameras. Has some nice integration with Ring Cameras but missing camera snapshot updates (great on Smartthings). Don’t like that you cannot pin any widget or dashboard. For the size you would expect some better sound. It is missing hub compatibility with Ring, apparently on Echo Show 10 gen4 has it build in. There should be gen4 ‘s out across the Echo Show ecosystem. Too many gotchas of missing integration and features across the generation.

    Good looking, useful, not perfect

We like how it looks. We like that we can say “Alexa, add such and such to the shopping list” and “Alexa, play music I like, please.” When I’m at the store I can pull up the shopping list on my phone which is very handy! The calendar is ok, not great: you can’t look at a month of events the way you can with a paper calendar. And, the to-do list can’t be managed and re-arranged from the app. One can only check off completed items. I’d like to be able to build out the list and arrange it according to the priority of tasks to be completed. In the Amazon galaxy of stuff, there’s not a lot of functionality beyond helping us consume stuff. Still, we wanted to move our wall calendar/home scheduling into the electronic era and this seems to be the best mainstream option available right now. The undeveloped potential of this tool is frustrating, but on the whole it’s well liked in our home.

    Not what I expected

I have been looking for a family planning type device. Something that could be displayed in my kithen that would have a family calendar, chore tracking, shopping lists, task lists, etc. I was ultimately choosing between this and the Skylight. When this one went on early black friday sale, I decided to purchase this one. When I purchased this, I was under the understanding that I would be able to add Cozi as a skill. The cozi calendar works perfect for what I need. Once it came in and I went to download Cozi, I realized they have discontinued allowing using Cozi on the Show. I only wish I knew why. If I had known I could not use Cozi on this device, I would not have purchased. Anyway, below are the pros and cons that I have so far.Pros-The ability to use streaming apps such as Netflix, Hulu, etc. It is nice to be able to throw a show on while I clean the kitchen.-The screen size is perfect. Big enough to see through the room, but not too big for the space-Screen clarity is great.-Love the options for mounting. We currently have it on a swivel stand on the counter, but we are debating mounting it on the wall. I love that you can get the wood look frames to put on it to make it more decorative as well.-Alexa responds and understands well, which makes it nice to get a question answered or a skill started while I am cooking or cleaning.Cons-There is VERY little room for customizing. The home screen that has the widgets is barely customizable. You can pick which of the pre-loaded widgets you can display on the home screen, but you can’t even choose placement. I even tried making a custom display on Dakboard, but I did not have the ability to apply it.-the only calendars it will load is microsoft, apple, and google. None of these work well for a family calendar.-You can only load what skills they allow. This device would be leaps and bounds better if there were more freedom as to what apps are allowed.Long story short. If you want this for a tv with a limited number of other skills, this is for you. If you are wanting to purchase this for a family planning/family planning device, skip it. Go for the Skylight.

Gorgeous Display, Average Speakers, and Quick

I returned my Echo Show 10 because I hated the automatic rotating display, and bought this instead. The display on the 15 is big, bright, and beautiful, but lacks the adaptive color temperature found on the Show 8 and 10, which is really disappointing for a device that looks like a picture frame. Still, I haven’t been disappointed with the resolution on the 15 despite standing so close to it most of the time I use it. My family pictures look great, and videos play in native 1080p.I’m excited for the Fire TV update coming sometime towards the end of 2022 and can’t believe this thing didn’t launch with that feature. It’s practically a tiny TV already, which is why I wanted it for my kitchen counter. If you have the space, I say go bigger 100% of the time. It’s vast compared to the Show 8 and 10 I’ve tried previously. The sound quality is a bit disappointing. The Show 15 is relatively thin (much more so compared to other Echo Show devices) so it makes sense, because where were the engineers supposed to put bigger, better speakers? However, I don’t use the 15 to listen to music—I have a Sonos Move in my kitchen for that and the difference in sound quality is night and day. But I mainly use the Show 15 to watch YouTube (using the Silk browser, which let’s be honest, sucks compared to a native app) and Prime Video/Netflix. For video consumption the speakers are perfectly adequate. They mostly lack any meaningful bass, but dialogue is clear enough, and for streaming content in the background while I cook for myself or feed the dogs, the speakers are good enough. I just highly recommend you don’t compare the speakers to a Sonos speaker or even the Echo Show 10 (or 8) because in that situation it’s impossible not to be a little bummed out.I’ve been impressed with the responsiveness of the touch screen and the speed of Alexa results, which is directly thanks to the newest processor inside. Echo Show devices have always been slow and stuttery when navigating menus and settings, but the Show 15 is definitely an improvement over the previous generation of Shows. I can’t speak for the camera quality because I use FaceTime to video call people, but I imagine if you’re a hardcore Echo Show video caller you’d want the Show 10 or 8 which both have better cameras that automatically keep you in frame. The Show 15 doesn’t do that.Overall, I’m really happy with the Show 15. It’s the perfect size display for my kitchen and is great for content consumption. The widgets are limited, but the ones I do use are useful. I love that I can simultaneously display my photo collection with widgets at the same time because the screen is so large.A big caveat, however: the MSRP is $250. I don’t think it’s worth that. Wait for a sale. I got mine for around $175 on Prime Day, I believe. I also bought the official Sanus rotating and swiveling stand. In my opinion this mount should be included for $175 let alone the full 250. I think it was around 40 bucks when I bundled it in. I have a tile backsplash throughout my entire kitchen and would not have been able to mount the Show 15 on my walls, so a countertop stand was unfortunately a required purchase. Without this stand I would’ve returned the Show 15 immediately. It looks dumb leaning against the wall, and I like that the stand let’s me angle the Show towards my sink or rotate it to portrait mode while taking up a relatively small space on my countertop. The cheaper $30 stand that doesn’t tilt or swivel just seemed like it would take up counter space and be disappointing. If you aren’t planning on mounting the Show 15, I highly, highly recommend the upgraded tilt and swivel Sanus stand.

1 star off due to sound quality

First of all, I love Echo devices and having the automation in my home. I have old dots, a Show 5, 8, and now this one. I was very impressed with the 5’s sound quality and expected the new one to equal or even better it, but it falls quite a bit short. The sound is tinny and the volume needs to be high for video calls. If you forget to manually turn it down, the next announcement is too loud.We love the large, split screen. My Google calendar shows all the time, a nice feature. The screen is just large enough, making recipes readable in a medium sized kitchen. The touch screen has worked well.I’m debating whether to add the subwoofer, but I’m disappointed that I need to spend another $100+ just to get decent sound. If you’re looking for a clear screen with accessible features, this is very good; if you’re looking for hifi, not so much.

Tons of Glitches & Awful Speech Recognition

UPDATE (JULY 7,2023)I’m updating my 1-star rating to 4 stars & I now really recommend this device for its usefulness – especially to stay-at-home parents like me. You don’t need to wait for another gen device, because they’ve fixed the functionality with this one. There has been a ton of improvement via updates since last May, even an update that allows use of a Fire remote. Use of the fire remote allows you to bypass the still lacking receiver on this device & speak into the remote so you’re not misunderstood. This is incredibly helpful.USE CASE:My device is being used as an aid in the kitchen. I use it to find recipes online, video with family while cooking, play Cocomelon for my toddler while she waits for a snack, track Amazon deliveries, listen to podcasts or Pandora or radio while cooking, set multiple cooking timers & daily/weekly reminders, watch YouTube videos, and my older kids can quiz Alexa about most of life’s possibilities, because it functions as a decent encyclopedia. The uses for this device are near endless. One of the best upgrades for me is that it will now play music in the background while I view a recipe online. Though this multitasking functionality is not 100% reliable, when it works it’s nice. Also great about this device is it turns its screen off when your house activity ceases for the day, which is one less thing to think about.AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT:1. Speech recognition: Though it’s much better than it was, there’s still improvement needed.2. Verification: Alexa should verify it heard you correctly before it backs out of what you’re listening to or watching. It can be really annoying to ask Alexa to check the time or reminders or whatever while listening to a podcast & get booted & have to start over & relocate your spot in your audio/video.3. Pause & restart activity where you leave off: There needs to be a more reliable way to pause your activity (YouTube video or music, etc) while you ask Alexa questions, return to your home screen, etc. Better multitasking functionality would make it a way more useful device.ORIGINAL REVIEW, MAY 15, 2022 (1-star rating)I cannot recommend anyone buy this 1st gen Echo Show 15. Wait until developers improve speech recognition & work out the bugs. The screen looks great for such a small device & this Show has a lot of great functionality. However, it seems to have worse speech recognition than the Dot, which is frightening. The latest Studio is great at speech recognition, so it would be nice to have that capability on the new Show. Developers degraded the camera for this first gen 15, but who would’ve thought they’d skimp on speech recognition, which is a core function of any Alexa device. The Dot, I get – you’re buying a cheap, entry level, tiny device. But why skimp on speech recognition on the newest Show? It’s incredibly frustrating that this Show only understands a small portion of what it’s asked. It literally has problems understanding commands as basic as “Alexa, open YouTube” & “Alexa, open Prime Video.” It is also selective about which of your Prime movies it will play. An example is it plays Fellowship of the Ring, but not the Extended Edition – either of which will play on the Prime Video Android app. I suggest waiting a few gens before buying the 15. If you want good speech recognition & don’t want to waste time saying the same thing over, get the latest Studio & wait for the Show 15 to improve. Use the Studio with a Fire TV with camera & you’ll be way less frustrated.

    Great size for the kitchen

This is a nice Echo Show. It’s not 4K but the 1080p resolution is okay for what its initial intention was for, a smart home assistant. Amazon did add the Fire TV option which is awesome and for the size of the screen, I think the 1080p is also fine for viewing content. It’s bright and the colors are good. In later generations, it would be nice if Amazon made the white border smaller or eliminated it altogether. The border makes the Show perfect for viewing your pictures as it looks just like a picture frame but a distraction for watching TV.The screen is a perfect size for viewing in the kitchen ( or small bedroom from a short distance). My significant other loves it for her recipes. It does mount flat against the wall so seeing the screen from different angles presented a problem. I purchased an Elived full motion TV monitor mount from Amazon which came with everything necessary to mount the Show 15 and gave it full swivel and tilt capabilities. You don’t need to buy a full motion mount “specifically for the Show 15″ and spend double or more. The mount makes my Show stick out about 3 3/4″ inches from the wall which to me wasn’t an issue ( seems to bother others).I also mounted a Majority Bowfell 15 ” soundbar (also from Amazon) under the Show to improve the sound quality. I used heavy duty hook and loop fasteners and since the soundbar weighs under 2 lbs. falling off wasn’t a concern. It most definitely improved the sound by giving the Show a little more bass and openness and IMO, doesn’t look bad and what’s nice about attaching it directly to the bottom of the Show is that the sound follows the screen as you move it.Overall, I think the Echo Show 15 is a great addition (or start) to your Alexa smart home.Edit: After having had the Show with the Bowfell soundbar, I wasn’t pleased with the sound. I changed the mount and included a ledge for a bigger speaker to sit under. I tried the Tribit MaxSound Plus and it was a HUGE improvement in sound quality ( like going from a shack to a mansion ), however the Show made the speaker look out of place-it was just too small. So I settled with the Doss SoundBar XL and it fits, looks and sounds fantastic. A bigger speaker to o with the larger screen. You can purchase the soundar mounts on Amazon. I chose the Eveo universal soundbar mount. I attached the mounts to a small thin piece of wood to use as a shelf for the speaker – the mounts come with some incredibly strong adhesive. I attached a bracket(s) to the back of the Elived mount and then attached the Eveo mounts to them with nuts, bolts and lockwashers. I happened to have some spare parts left over from some speaker stands and I found some brackets that worked perfectly. Or you can purchase or make your own- essentially a piece of steel that you can drill holes to attach to the Shows mount and the another 2 holes to attach the soundbar mount. Relatively simple install and very secure. See new pics.

Missing some features I would like to see added in future firmware updates.

I ordered this Echo Show 15 for my kitchen to complement the Echo Shows 8 & 5 I already have in other rooms. I have only had it working for a week and here are my Pros & Cons:Pros:The 15″ display is very nice and looks great. With the larger screen they can fit more menu items on each view which decreases the menu page amounts and scrolling you need to do to find features and program. The large screen also provides much more area to fit several widget/apps that are large enough for you to see at a usable distance unlike the smaller 10″, 8″ & 5″ Echo units..It seems to run very cool which I hope will add to its longevity. It has a nice feature you can toggle on/off which will put the screen into night mode after the ambient light goes below a certain level. The screen darkens and only retains a dim digital clock widget and wakes back up when touched, spoken to or a notification comes thru.Seems to have more new features than my 5″ & 8″ units. Which I have not had time to explore fully. If you have set up any of the Echo Shows before, this is just as easy to program as those are. Most of your personal settings come already pre-programmed if you click the box “Link device to your Amazon account to simplify setup” when ordering.Cons:Since the unit is made to be slim like a picture frame, it only has room for two rather small speakers which sadly do not produce the nice bass tones that my Echo 5 & especially the 8″ units have. It has plenty of volume for communication purposes, just not great sounding for music. However, it has been said by others that you can Bluetooth it to a Sound Bar for any quality or volume of audio you may need or want.My biggest disappointment is that the Home screen does not have much flexibility for custom programming and screen layout. I now have the three widgets I want/need which line up along the bottom 1/3 of the screen (in portrait mode) and the digital desktop clock option just above that. The rest of my screen is empty. However, that space could be filled with other widgets. My problem is that the digital desktop clock has 1 inch high characters, in white only. It would be perfect if they provided adjustments for larger font size and different digit color choices. If those adjustments are there, I have not found them yet.If the clock font could be made larger (say 2~4″) it would be much more legible from farther away. And different color options would provide higher contrast against any desktop background art you may choose to use. In my setup with only three widgets, I have plenty of empty screen. So a bigger clock would be great to fill that blank space.Seems like that should be a pretty easy firmware upgrade that I hope to see soon (Amazon?).Also, since this unit (as all Echo devices) runs on an Amazon’s propriety operatimg system, you can not download/install regular Android apps (as you can with the Fire TV Stick), which would be really nice.I would love to add a Weather Radar app to this unit as the desktop background for the screen saver.I have only had the unit a week, but except the abovementioned Cons, it does everything I purchased it for. So far, so good.

Can’t use the whole screen for pics but a decent product

Things I learned only after purchase:- you cannot use the entire screen for photos. You can set it to slideshow, but that’s like a screensaver – you can’t have full screen with your clock and your photos in the background. It’s a panel that’s about 60 percent of the screen size.- you cannot set it to just be one huge clock. It’s a tiny clock in the bottom corner. you can make it slightly larger, but that’s as good as it gets.- it comes with a basic wall mount that allows you to manually take it off and rotate it 90 degrees so that you can have it oriented portrait or landscape. It’s not the mount that rotates – it’s a piece of metal. You literally pull it off the mount, turn it with your hands, and stick it back on. Functions fine that way, just could not tell from the ad before I purchased.- you can add 2 to 4 widgets next to the main panel. I use mine for things like my shopping list and weather. there are a lot of good ones. But you cannot just remove all of them. You have to have at least 2 and the open spots for the other two just sit there until / unless used.- there is integration for things like wyze / ring / other cameras which is easy to use, but if you have an alert going off like person detection at the same time and then ask it to show you that camera, instead of using the entire screen it shows the cam video in a tiny internal module rather than the whole screen. IT uses most of the screen to show you the alert in text, but minimizes the camera to a tiny square. Frustrating! Cannot undo it, which is difficult when you have an alarm going off and you’re anxious to see why.Other typical Alexa/Echo/Amazon issues:- voice recognition is mediocre. Hasn’t been working so well lately. I have to speak up pretty hard to get a response, despite having things set to sensitive.- lots of apps do not work. tried playing the trivia and it just doesn’t respond / doesn’t recognize my answers.- seems to get things wrong a lot more lately than before. Recently I did a search for a famous black american musician and it showed me related results including some old white guy in a bermuda shirt with Ray Charles’ name under him. lolOverall it’s nice, the screen is large, and it works fairly well if these specs work for you. When I first found out the screen couldn’t be one big screen and had to be broken up into pieces like this, I wasn’t sure I’d like it, but it has grown on me. Attached a couple photos, one as the full screen slide show with the photos, and the other the home screen with the widget boxes. hand/thumb included for scale.

It functions as: Calendar, ToDo list, Grocery and other shopping lists, kitchen timer, clock, “alive” photo frame, video/voice calling, intercom, news brief, “radio”, recipe cookbook, virtual assistant, smart home camera viewer, fun facts and useless trivia source, etc.One of the best things it does, is give us all a visual interface with the Alexa App stuff – meaning, we can ask it “Alexa, show me my grocery list”, and it shows up on the screen….. or, “Alexa, set cookie timer for 10 minutes”, and the status of the timer is visible, so I don’t need to then ask over an over “Alexa, how much time is left on my timer?”. Sure, all of that can be done with the app on my phone, or (in a somewhat clunky way) on my laptop. But, now it’s all right there for the whole family to access directly. It says that it can learn our names (and faces), and present customized stuff for whomever is looking at it at the moment – we aren’t that “smart” yet…So, the BIGGEST DRAWBACK to the whole thing is the size of the plug-in transformer that comes with the unit. Of course, we all want these to look sleek on the wall, with no cords visible. That means needing an electrical outlet behind the unit. But, the “wall wart” It is too large for a recessed outlet that can be used with a standard in-wall electrical box. I found a solution that worked for me — search on Amazon for “DVFR1W-1” in Tools & Home Improvement category. The rest of this review is about how I mounted the electrical box and the Echo Show 15 – hopefully it helps you get to a workable option with a bit of confidence! When setting the electrical box, I was a bit confused with how the “old work” or “remodel box” worked – when first installing it, you don’t have any front flange to rest on the finished side of the sheetrock – but, as it turns out, the cover ring becomes that part. (Maybe I should have read the instructions!). The opening that is needed in your sheetrock is a hair smaller than 6″ by 3-3/8″. The depth of the box when flush to the front of the sheetrock is 3-7//8″… so, with 1/2″ sheetrock and 2×4 framing, the back of the box will basically be in contact with the sheetrock on the other side of the wall. For mounting my Echo Show, I decided to put this recessed electrical box in “landscape” orientation. This allowed for the Echo Show’s mounting bracket’s drywall anchors to be over an inch away from the cut out for this electrical box. Also – I put the cover ring for this electrical box on top of the Echo Show mounting bracket. It fits within the bracket just fine – assuming the framing in your wall doesn’t have a stud running up the middle of where you plan to mount your Echo. There was enough gap between the bracket and the Echo to do this without pinching or encroaching on the Echo. The “wall wart” is nearly flush, and also has enough clearance to not be pressing on the back of the Echo. And, the Echo is as tight to the wall as the mounting bracket intended.

Love the screen size! Bought to use as a family calendar

Love the screen and all of the options! Wish the calendar was a bit more user friendly. Had to buy an additional app program to use as a calendar. Love the soothing jazz station for pets that plays when my dogs bark!!!

It’s been seven months and I like my Echo 15 but…

the tilt stand had to go. Mine sits on my nightstand and took up to much space on it. I got a different stand (one that elevates it) and now it’s much better. The built in Fire TV is awesome. I can watch Prime video or stream through other apps or listen to my audiobooks. Here is what I don’t like. For some reason, and no matter what preset display I pick, it reverts to this blue one. I don’t like this blue screen because it’s hard to see the time. I go into the settings, pick another display which will show for a while then the the next thing I know the blue one is back. I wish I could customize it more. It would be nice to change the font and/or color of the time stamp and the location of it. Maybe imitate a computer screensaver and have the time float. I mean after all you have that beautiful large screen. I feel little things like that would make this much better.

Exactly what I was looking for, with some limitations

So, I’m a super busy singlet who desperately needs to stay organized. On top of my full time + job, I also teach at night and on weekends, work EMS shifts and have nieces and nephews in sports and other activities. I saw an ad on facebook a few years back for an electronic countertop calendar and it made me want something similar very badly. The only problem was that particular device was stand alone and didn’t sync with any calendar apps like apple or google. Being able to see the same calendar everywhere is imperative to keeping my life organized. I thought about getting a large tablet and just keeping the calendar app open all the time, but they were all pretty expensive and didn’t exactly hit the spot, so not worth it. Then along comes this guy. It is exactly what I was looking for. I have access to all my calendars, to do lists, weather, news and I can add to it from any of my computers, phone, work devices and echo devices around the house (no more getting in and out of bed to add to the to do list stuck to the back door so I don’t forget it in the morning!) and it quickly syncs everywhere.Pros:-easy to set up, especially if you already have an Alexa account. It was actually a little creepy that it instantly knew who I was right out of the box!-easy to link to google calendar-a good selection of widgets to keep you organized and up to date-calendars and lists update very quickly, even when items are added from another device-the device is very responsive and the screen is super clear-clean design. The matted look makes photos look very nice.-the photo frame option looks nice when I don’t need to see my stuffCons:-Some settings are pretty limited. For example it would be nice to have the choice to have the screen go to the full screen slideshow automatically after a set amount of time instead of having to turn it on manually.-With visual ID turned on, an annoying icon stays on the screen-If a home screen item has no content (for example weather alerts), the screen that does show up is an alexa tip. It would be nice if it just got skipped as this screen is not very nice to look at.-Power cord – I don’t understand why these devices have to have such a huge box. If mounting on the wall, it would be nice to be able to completely hide the cord without having to change the anatomy of your wall. The length of the cord is also an issue. It’s too short.-Also, a battery or battery backup would be a great addition. I plan to keep mine in the kitchen. The ideal spot I have is far away from my stove/sink area. Being able to take it off the wall and bring it to the stove to follow recipes would be wonderful.Overall this is a great device for keeping track of your calendars, to-do’s, etc. It could definitely stand for allowing a significant more amount of customization and flexibility, but it definitely is a great option for life organization.

    Love it!

This is a must for any office or desk set up. It’s more than an Alexa, you can watch streaming services on a clear and large screen. It’s considered my 2nd monitor.

    L A R G E screen

This does a terrific job as a photo frame for my photos uploaded to Amazon. It looks great and its size means it can be viewed from across a room. Only downside is that it frequently shifts from Photo Frame mode to Amazon stuff, which ought to be expected, I guess.

    Love this

My husband bought me one of those digital picture frames for my first Mother’s Day and spent like $100 on it and when I got it I asked if he cared if we returned that and got this instead . Although more expensive it does so much more! I mean my favorite feature is still the pictures showing but I like that I can always see the weather without needing to go on my phone. It’s just displayed at all times, and I love that it has fire tv! We haven’t used it yet cause we just set it up less than a month ago! But it has so many more features than just a digital frame! Wait for a sale! They do drop the price! I wish we would have waited for prime day!

    Great, but could be better

Good:I love having this as a smart hub in the place I come to most often, the kitchen. I have this set up on my kitchen pub table and have it set up with a shared Google calendar that my husband and I both add events too so we can always keep track of what we have going on. I’ve used it to make up grocery lists, look up recipes, track my Amazon packages, listen to music and watch videos. It does most of these pretty well except for the videos, which I’ll touch upon later.Setup was pretty easy since the unit is VESA compatible and I had a spare PC monitor mount laying around from upgrading my monitors to use gas spring adjustable arms. I included pictures of the setup.Could be better:The overall user interface is very similar to prior echo shows which is a little disappointing in regard to the video apps. I have tried Prime video, Hulu, Tubi TV and YouTube (via Silk) and have watched with some success. I have also managed to watch Crunchyroll with great success by using the Silk Browser and logging in. However, the interface for the video app is really dumbed down for such a large screen which might have made sense for smaller echo show screens, but it is too limited here. It only has a few options like Category, Station, etc. And when I get to the actual shows, I only see the first episode or the last watched. Plus, if I pause a video, it will time out after awhile and go to the main screen. That would be fine, but it’s not so easy to continue where you left off because it only sometimes shows up on the main screen. If it doesn’t, you need to tell the echo to continue, hope it brings up the right show and doesn’t constantly crash. I have been having an ongoing issue with it crashing when I try to continue, which is only solved by unplugging the unit and plugging back in. This is my BIGGEST gripe.Honestly, I prefer using the browser to access the streaming sites because it is much easier to search and browse for videos which works for sites like Crunchyroll and YouTube. Unfortunately, watching on the streaming sites for Amazon and Hulu seems to be blocked for some reason. I also tried accessing Disney Plus on the browser and it is incompatible. There’s also no way to cast video from your phone or PC to the screen so I can’t get around it that way either.Closing:All in all, I still really enjoy the Echo Show 15. It has some good features present in previous Shows plus more, and with a much bigger screen. I do feel the interface needs tweaking considering the screen size, especially for video apps. However, if I really wanted a better video experience, I might as well put a small monitor or TV in my kitchen and use Chromecast, but then I’d loose Amazon connectivity. If you don’t already have a bunch of Amazon devices, you’re probably better off doing that. But, it has room for improvement, and I hope that firmware updates or later versions will improve upon these issues.

    Works Great Now!

It was a slow go with this Echo Show 15. Initially it didn’t speak back to me when I asked it a question or told it to do something. I have several devices throughout my house which I chose to keep using the Alexa name but with this one, which is stationed in my kitchen, I chose to call it Echo. That seemed to help with some of the issues I was having. It randomly started speaking responses to me one day so I’m not sure if Amazon fixed an issue or what but it was on the eve of my boxing it up to send back so I’m glad they fixed it.Originally the audio quality sounded a bit off or light to me but I wound up buying the wall mounted armature so I could swing the device out from the wall and easily position it. That seemed to improve the sound quality too which sounds great now.I love that I can seamlessly play videos right on the device. I’ve used competitor’s devices and they only “cast” movies and shows which is not the same thing. With the Show 15 I can just ask it to play something and it does without hesitation. There’s quite a bit of flexibility with setting widgets and personalization so I appreciate that. I hope one day they’ll make these so we can freely place widgets and objects anywhere we want but not yet.I’m still having issues with the device not including itself with my other speakers when I play music. I have my title for this set different from the standard “play everywhere” command so that may be part of the issue.All-in-all I’m VERY happy with the Echo Show 15. I’ve wanted it for ages and am happy to finally have it in my kitchen. I can easily read the screen from across the room which makes using recipes a breeze. I would totally recommend and get again!
