   Still A Good Buy, Still A Bit Lacking…

   Blink cameras are still years later a good buy for those looking for security cameras on a budget. I’ve owned four of the original Blink G1 cameras and even after some six years they’re still going strong. Helping a friend with their security needs spurred me to look at Blink’s current crop of devices and I purchased two new G3 cameras. The G3 cameras I purchased have the ability of two way communication which G1 did not, so I swapped them out placing the G3 cameras at my front and back doors andoved the G1 cameras that had been there to elsewhere.Things to think about and remember… Blink still touts two year battery life. You’ll need to take into consideration where you place the camera and the settings as the busier the yard (I have a zero lot yard) and the higher you toggle your settings the less battery life you can expect. To avoid having to swap out batteries, consider investing in a solar panel. Whether it’s a third party manufacture or now Blink sells a solar mount it’s something to think about. I purchased panels for my G1 cameras (and as a given I purchased them for my new G3 cameras) and haven’t worried about power in some six years. The panels even are robust enough that is the sun isn’t out for days they can still provide days worth of power before needing to recharge and by that time hopefully the weather will have improved.As much as I want to like my new G3 cameras for their ability to communicate both ways, I get some feedback. I’ve yet to have a visitor to either the front or back door and have an actual conversation through the cameras, but I’d have appreciated them being noise cancelling. If you have the volume toggled on then they will alert based upon the noise. I’ve got the volume toggled off and the camera set to thirty seconds or less for motion. I figure I’ll get the motion alert and toggle on the volume to then speak with whomever and avoid alerts because the camera heard an errant noise.Daytime recording is great, the G3 cameras had no problems and the quality was comparable to my G1 cameras. The night recordings suffer as Blink cameras have never done really well at night, but you should know who’s supposed to be around your residence and not. Obviously if you see someone on a motion recorded clip around your house in the overnight you’ve likely got a problem regardless of the lack of detail. This however could easily be fixed by just pairing up your camera with an inexpensive motion activated spot lamp. You can find wired, battery and solar powered spot lamps for cheap at your home improvement store or Amazon. Both pointing in the same direction they’ll likely see the same thing and go off the spot lamp illuminating and allowing for good enough night time recording in color with detail.Wish Blink would introduce an outdoor rated pan and tilt camera. A family friend had some they wanted my help with and they didn’t work out so got them something else. But I kind of like the idea of a pan and tilt camera on the cheap which I think Blink could do. But Blink cameras are so cheap, and usually even on sale in bundles, you can easily buy a few and scatter them around to cover everything.The app, the app, the app… Was thinking about switching from Blink to Reolink but instead stayed with Blink. Was interested in Reolink and even bought a few for testing but the app was a mess compared to the Blink app. I’m an older grandfathered Blink customer so I get free cloud storage and access, new customers will have to buy a subscription. You’ll want the subscription for the alerts and immediate video playback as in my testing I’ve found the local storage option cumbersome and worthless. Your alerts get recorded sure, but to Blink servers and then a once daily dump during the overnight hours to your USB drive if you go local. So that alert you get at work at 8am on Monday, you have to wait for the dump overnight Monday and into Tuesday and then on Tuesday you have to unplug it and use a computer to see what happened at that alert Monday at 8am. Defeats the purpose of running your system local, but this is Amazon and they make their money based on subscriptions.That said I give props to the Blink app for it’s rich notifications and ease of use. I get an alert and in the notification with limited exception is a tiny pic. I can tell if it’s worth watching and if not just swipe or delete even from the notification. I can pull down on the notification for a bigger picture. If it’s worth watching immediately I can tap the notification and it opens and pulls the video then and there for playback. By comparison, the Reolink cameras I was testing don’t have rich notifications so you just get these, “…person detected…” notifications which can mean anything from a criminal to a person waking their dog (again, zero lot lawn) to the mailman coming by. I had to open each notification but it doesn’t go to the video. It does to a sleeping camera (to conserve power the camera (Reolink) is asleep), the app has to wake the camera and connect, the you’re taken to the live view and whatever it is could very well be gone by then. So you then click videos and swipe through the feed that camera has recorded that day / or whenever the last time you wiped the internal SD card of videos. So what the Blink app does in one tap took me nearly seven taps just to see oh yes, it was just the mailman.The Blink app is also organized with each camera having a nice equivalent of a table of contents to section the settings why the Reolink I was testing had it all on one page and demanded scrolling. But once you dial in your settings you don’t often change things so I guess that’s not something to really worry about. But just the ease of use and directness with the Blink app compared to the blind notifications and swiping of the Reolink app made me decide to send the Reolink cameras back, buy some more Blink cameras and to stay with Blink.The biggest thing I could hope for in the future from Blink is that the cameras will become smart enough to not be bothered by the clouds and sun as some days my cameras go nuts only to find they’re being triggered by the difference in light on my lawn as the sun goes in and out of the clouds. And I’d like to see some person detection as despite using zones to filter out the street I still get vehicles going buy (I get several good pictures of the garbage truck every Tuesday…). Maybe the ability to record a vehicle only if it stops within the frame of the camera for however many seconds so if someone does roll up on your place with intent to do harm it’ll trigger a recording and not a bunch of pictures of just vehicles going by. And true, feature rich local storage.But all in all, despite their problems which are really just minor, you can’t really go wrong with Blink cameras. I spent some six hundred dollars on just five Reolink cameras and solar panels (they were in a two-fer bundle each) and I ultimately sent them back. For the price paid for five cameras I could’ve gotten five Blink cameras and third party solar panels for cheaper or could’ve gotten several more than five Blink cameras and panels for that six hundred dollars. While you do get what you pay for, there’s no reason that home security cameras have to cost a small fortune.

   Works pretty good

   Works pretty good for such a light, battery powered cam. I have one setup under the eve as a package cam and one actually wound up being setup in my 3D printer enclosure. This way I can check to see when my next spool of 3D filament just got delivered and also the progress of my latest print. I’m not home very often so its convenient for me to check in on things briefly from afar. These cams let me do that.The best thing about these cams is that they are powered by 2 AA batteries. The worst thing about these cams is that they are powered by 2 AA batteries.They communicate with the Sync Module 2, not your router so keep that in mind. Do not base cam locations on where your router(s) and access points are, base it on whether its within 100 feet of a Sync Module 2.When you setup one of the Blink cams it automatically starts a 30 day trial subscription to the web storage service and it also activates some of the cam’s functionality as well. I am still within the trial period so I am not sure exactly what you can or can’t do after it ends if you don’t continue with a paid subscription.As you can see in my pics, you can plug a USB cable into the back but it can’t be just any USB cable as shown here, it must be one specifically made for the Blink Outdoor camera. If a cable lists other Blink models or other brands of cams it will work with then it is not correct for the Blink Outdoor cam to retain its weather tight integrity. Blink sells a USB power cable for the Outdoor that is meant to be plugged into an outdoor outlet. 3rd Party vendor sells flat cables that are meant to run under/over a door or window and be plugged into an indoor outlet only. The USB port will not charge the batteries in the unit. If you intend to live-view for long periods often or record a lot of motion clips at busy locations then you should get a hard wired cam with a DVR instead of these.So far I like what I’m getting from these peace-of-mind curiosity cams. They work great with Alexa Show, Fire TV stick and my phone for viewing. It downloads backups of motion clips to the Sync Module 2 once a day that I can look at on my PC. Its my understanding that once the trial subscription runs out, some of the functionality is removed. Not sure what exactly yet but I’ll update once I find out.* * UPDATE: After the 30-Day Free Trial Ends…My 30-day automatic trial subscription ended a few days ago. Gist is its pretty much the same except more cumbersome to manage clips and also can’t be looking through a cam in Live-View and hit the record button to start recording anymore – it says that requires a subscription. Also, no taking pictures when in live-view either. Also clips load much slower and you have to have a clip loaded and being viewed before you can delete one. Also you can’t set a schedule to delete the clips after a certain period anymore – requires the sub. So best way to delete them is to safely eject the USB and bring it to a PC and manage the files there.I got a couple of notices starting about 10 days or so prior that my subscription was going to end soon and that I would not be able to record after that if I did not purchase a subscription. Now that it has ended I noticed that I wasn’t getting any motion activated notifications on my android phone and no clips to display under the Clips Tab in the app. I also notice that the Clips Tab is now only showing Local Storage (empty), prior the USB only contained Backup Clips from the web that were not listed in the app as clips and had to be viewed and managed on the PC. Tried setting off a couple of cams and their lights showed they were recording but no clips appearing on the Sync Module 2 USB. Went through all settings on all cams and Sync Module 2 and ejected and reinserted USB – still no clips showing. Sent an email off to support via the website support page stating the above. Checked the app again the next day and a cryptic message stating the module was out of sync or something came up. A minute orso later clips showed up and all has been working as far as motion being detected and clips showing up on the Sync Module 2 USB within a few minutes of such motion. No thumbnails for the clips but it does show date+time and the cam it was from.In my experience with these cams, do not set motion detection up in busy areas including your front door if you have a family, friends, pets, etc. going in and out all the time because you will fill up with lots and lots of clips very quickly. And I’m guessing run the batteries down very quickly as well. Not practical from an environmental, financial or time management aspect. I try to remember to disable the motion detection on cams I will be active around such as my garage. Only delivery people and strangers go to my front door so its not a highly active entrance for me and I’m using my cams primarily for drop-in live-viewing and not necessarily thief catching anyway.Without a subscription, the cams are working good, original batteries still ok, motion recording working to the Sync Module 2 usb drive, live view working good from the phone app, fire-tv stick and my echo shows. I have a 128 GB USB (formatted as exfat on my Win10 PC – it came from SanDisk preformatted as FAT which is not acceptable) in the Sync Module 2 and use a PC on a regular basis so motion-clip file management is not a problem for me even if the local storage management is cobbled in the app. I have 2 Blink Mini usb powered cams and they are recording motion clips to the Sync Module 2 also now that the subscription has ended. The subscription isn’t a bad price btw if you want the off-site storage and extra functionality and convenience it provides.Oh yeah, I forgot to mention:A day after sending my email to customer support I got an automated response saying they received my request with an incident number saying I would be contacted soon. (by now my cams are notifying and recording ok so problem resolved) A few days after that I received a second email from Blink – asking me to rate the customer service person’s response to my problem. I never received a response from customer service. Nothing. My cams are working now though so not sure if they did something on their end or what. Also not sure what’s up at Blink but obviously their customer service via email is not functioning at this time. Suggest if you need help you call the phone number instead.

   Surprising decent wireless solution but with a few caveats

   Due to my answer in the QA section receiving many endorsement, i decided to give it a bit more detailed review after 2 weeks into owning the Blink setup. I came from Simplisafe, and i still do have simplisafe’s alarm system, but due to their lack of outdoor camera solution, i finally decided to pull the trigger on the latest Outdoor blink and try out the Mini blink as well.First thing’s first, the new Outdoor Blink cam works mostly as advertised but the indoor Blink Mini is junk. Read more about the Mini below. But first the Outdoor (good)Blink Outdoor:Motion recording speed & Delay:The Outdoor cam’s trigger time is almost instant, in fact, I noticed that it even records a second before entering the frame. which tells me that it might be doing some kind of constant recording into the cam’s onboard volatile memory as cache, and once motion is triggered it starts encoding the data and dumps it onto the cloud. So the trigger time is almost instant. However, note that there is a 5 second delay from what’s happening Live vs what you see on your phone. so that delay is between Trigger –> Encode –> Cloud –> Decode. I”d imagine that if your Cam is connected to a wifi bridge as oppose to directly to the main router, the delay could be longer than 5 seconds. Compare to Simplisafe cam, the Live vs View delay is about the same. and the trigger time is about the same too.Motion sensor & sensor distance.the motion sensor distance in the Outdoor cam is less than 25 ft. despite what the feature ad would tell you. i have 4 Cams (3 outdoor setup at an angle pointing down 45 degree angle, and 1 in the garage looking pretty much straight flat at my car), 3 of the outdoor ones could pretty much trigger 15~20ft out, while the one in the garage struggles to even trigger at 15 ft. You should also take night vision into account. in NV mode, the distance is 5ft shorter. increasing the IR blast in NV will somewhat mitigate the problem but at a cost of battery drain. i tried moving the cam in garage from pointing 45 degree down to looking almost straight horizontal to improve motion sensing to a degree. So if you have trouble with the motion sensor, try that. Compare to Simplisafe’s cam, the Simplicam seems to have farther motion sensing distance. But then again, Simplisafe still doesn’t have an outdoor solution.Speaker/Micthe speaker and Mic quality is really good. it doesn’t sound overly tiny like you would expect and is loud and clear. compare to Simplicam, the Blink Outdoor has better sound and mic.Wifi Wirelessi was surprised how well the wireless works. lots of complains in the review about wireless distance, not sure if they’re genuine. but my farthest cam is about 80ft away from my main router thought a living room, a dining room and a garage and garage door (just shy of the max 100ft advertised in the spec), i am still able to get above 33% wifi N signal. But i think a lot of this “might” depend on the quality of your Wifi router. i spared no expense on my home wifi. So my router is 3×3 beam forming top of the line AC router that also has a very wide 802.11 N coverage. it can reach far and carry lots of bandwidth. my advice is invest in a quality wifi router with the most bandwidth and range you can afford. Note that the cams and module only supports 802.11 N. Compare to Simplicam, the wifi signal reach is about the same, if not slightly better than the Simplicam.AC Wireless.part of the charm and strength about the Blink Outdoor is its battery powered wireless nature. Only time will tell how long my Cams will last. I will update this review and reflect the score once my first set of battery run out. My gut tells me it’ll be less than 2 years, well less. but i’d be happy if i can get even 1 year out of those cams. Note that the advertised 2 year battery life from Amazon is based on roughly 2 mins of video footage per day per cam. One of my busiest cam facing out the front door is seeing 2~3 times that amount.Resolution/video qualitythe resolution of the cam and video compression is really good. compare to those legacy 480p outdoor cams, this was a big step up. but compare to the simplicam, i would say the image looks slightly sharper than the Simplicam. but note that true 1080p resolution is only possible with high quality video record setting, which can chew up your battery and storage. Amazon’s 2 year battery life is based on medium setting, which is actually 720p. but even at the medium setting, i still find the image to be very sharp and clear. going from medium to high (1080p) setting yield “some” improvement viewing on a smart phone. you likely won’t be able to find big difference viewing it on a smartphone unless you view both videos on a large monitor. oh which btw, currently there’s no app available for desktop computers. you’ll have to either download the footage or pull the backup off your thumb drive to view it on a dekstop.Storageok, this is the most contentious and messed up part. the ad made you believe that you don’t need to subscribe to cloud and able to store locally. what they don’t explain to you is that local storage is only a secondary option on top of the cloud subscription. so you CANNOT, at least at the point of this review, store your recordings directly to the USB thumb drive and read off of it directly. how the Blink cam works right now is everything gets dumped to their cloud server, and when you view the footage, it reads off their cloud server. the USB thumb drive is just there to backup “from their cloud server” “once a day”. there is no way for you to have the cams upload recordings directly to the thumb drive locally and view them from your phone wirelessly off the USB Thumbdrive. There’re a lot of people asking about this question on forums and, like me, only found this out after the fact. It’s not a deal breaker, but it just leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Why not just come out and say it. It’s simply misleading. if you go to their website, and dig, and i mean really dig, you’ll find that there is a way to run it without subscription. but any motion trigger or live views will not be recorded. So what’s the point of local storage? it’s almost like they just want to find a way to cramp that “local storage” wording into their ad to sell you the product only to find out that it’s a secondary backup on top of a pay subscription.Now onto Blink mini (junk)Blink mini on the other hand. To put it simply is junk or an opportunity wasted. the Blink Mini has a long standing bug that plagued the camera for at least 2 years, and the dev team still hasn’t released a fix. The issue with Blink Mini is that it fails to trigger motion recording coming out of night vision mode when you enter the room to turn the lights on. the dev team explained that something to do with the cam goes into freeze mode when it attempts to wake itself out of night vision to do recording. for that reason, it’s pretty much trash if you intend on using the Mini as any kind of indoor security cam. I originally intended to use the Mini in my garage to monitor my prized stallion. But i literately would go into my garage and walk up to the car and no motion or recording is triggered. Dev has acknowledged this issue since late 2018 and said in 2019 forum post that firmware update is coming to fix this. it is now end of 2020, i would not count on it. The only reason i kept my Mini and ordered another Outdoor cam for the garage is so that in any case when we go on vacation, i can set the Mini up in the living room to do live view. But if you’re thinking about getting the Mini for motion triggered security cam indoor, forget it. don’t say i didn’t warn you.Software UI/UXthe interface for the app is easy to use and more organized than many other similar services. clips are organized with usable filters at your disposal. the motion sensing manual dead zone configuration is helpful, although likely not too useful if you’re using it outdoor, since the “motion sensor” distance (not wifi distance) is well shy of advertised 25ft.OVERALLthe new Outdoor blink has a lot going for it. If they can fix their advertisement wording, or better, let us have the option to record directly to the USB Thumb drive and be able to view the recording from our devices directly from the thumbdrive. it’ll then be a True local storage solution. the only reason i ditched my Simplicam is because i really wanted to have smart Cams covering my house outdoor. Been 3+ years since Simplisafe said that they would come out with an outdoor solution. But till this day, still nothing. i just got tired of waiting. When i saw the new Blink Outdoor being advertised for Black Friday, i really wanted to give it a try. i would say the barrier to entry is minimal. the Blink hardware given the discount that amazon has been giving out, is worth the shot. Without the deep discounts, i am not so sure. They just need to improve the motion sensor distance coverage, and let us really use the USB thumb drive for storage. In a sea of smart home security market today. Amazon really needs to do more to win over customers and not only that, to keep them there. If they can combine Ring with Blink, i might just ditch my Simplisafe completely and go Ring to combine their alarm system with Blink. If they can do that, i don’t mind paying the $10/month subscription. But at its current state, they still have work to do to win over customers.i will update the review on the battery life

   Using for almost 4 years – here are my PROs and CONs

   When we first purchased cams back in 2017, we compared to Arlo and Ring before we chose Blink. Now we are up to 10 cams, covering every angle of the house. Here are my findings after using them for almost 4 years (and still buying more):PROS:> #1 video quality is excellent. Day time is a bit better than night, but night vision is as good as it gets with cams. POSITION of your cam matters a ton. I started out putting them way high up and quickly realized – if you actually want identifying features – they need to be lower. Otherwise… yeah you see someone walking past, but you cant ID anything, so what is the use.> So inexpensive – so easy to integrate. Anytime we have ANYTHING we need to cover, we just order another cam and it literally takes 5 minutes to get it out of the box, batteries in, and added to existing system.. seriously – 5 minutes.> The app is great. Very intuitive. Our first cams had very few “advanced features” every time i order new cams, they have improved their features. Now you are able to zoom all the way in to very small areas, to capture certain areas and exclude others.. For example – old cams you had to block off large sections of the capture area to avoid the cams picking up movement from trees, but now you can pinpoint one little part of a branch on a tree to exclude if its triggering the cam.> Motion detection is very sensitive – but they have it tweaked just about right. It never misses anything, but if you setup your exclusion zones well – you can get it almost perfect. I dont have a lot of false alarms and I’m running 10 cams. We have one setup to look at the sidewak, and after much tweaking, we can actually exclude the street… but pick up both sidewalks on both sides of the street. You can setup the app to alert you or not alert you.. you can turn sound on or off on alerts. On windy days I do end up just going into the app and turning off all cams that are setup around lots of trees until the storm is over.. but thats like a few times a year.> Super easy playback and control of cams. It’s instant – you can control them in any way, very easily. If I am working on a project in the yard, I dont want my cams on for hours, running out of batteries – so I just go into the app and turn them all off. It takes seconds. Likewise – if i hear a noise at night, super easy to open the app and live view any cam so i can look all around the house and see everything happening outside, from every angle.> Extremely easy to move around. We have had them for years – so we move them around occasionally. I even had mice in our crawlspace under the house at one point and just grabbed one of the cams off the side of the house and stuck it down there so I could catch them at night. Theres no commitment with these – no hard wiring so you can mount them anywhere and taking them on and off the mount takes 2 seconds.> No subscription needed to store clips. thats BIG for us. We would not like blink as much if they changed that. We run a lot of cams and it just stays 100% full storage – we can still access a few weeks worth of video, it just deletes oldest. You can download/save any videos.> Lots of mounting options. You have to buy them separately if you want anything special, but I have 3 different types of mounts – one for trees, one around porches that need to be secured so they cant be taken, and then the standard mounts for cams not at risk of being taken. There are camo skins as well – I have on in a tree that you pretty much cant see unless you know its there.> Customer support is super decent. In the winter of 2018, one of my cams took on a green hue to the image when the temp went down to about 10 degrees outside. I emailed customer service explaining the issue and sent a screenshot and within 24 hours they asked me for the SN of the cam, and did a firmware update that fixed it. I was quite happy with that.CONS:> So while the batteries are awesome because the cams are so easy to move around and deal with… i blow through batteries. Fortunately, i just get 20 packs of AA’s, but with 10 cams – even though Blink ~says~ batteries can last a year? it totally depends on usage. So we get LOTS of traffic on our front cams because we live in a busy area and have people walking past all day. I change out the batteries on every one of those front cams once a month. Granted – thats many hundreds of video captures and ideally, we should connect those cams to electricity somehow – that is an option with blink, but I dont mind changing batteries. On the cams in the back yard and side paths – I really can go once or twice a year changing those, except for the ones that catch a lot of foot traffic. So the battery usage is totally dependent on traffic. Personally – the cams are a big deal to me, so i dont mind it at all. Benefits totally outweigh the downsides.> The biggest difference between Blink and some other companies is that i see other people with hardwired cams that can catch EVERYTHING in a continuous fashion, for hours. like the surveillance videos you see online where the cam just happened to catch something happening down the street…Blink doesnt work that way. it only captures immediate video clips, triggered by motion activation. It does store all videos.. you can see something weird in your yard and look back through videos to find out what happened – but it isnt 24 hours of continuous video feed.> You can get gaps in your videos. So it can capture 1 minute of video at a time, but then it takes a small break before it starts capturing again, so if something is happening and its videotaping an event – it will record an entire minute of excellent footage – but then it takes a 5 second break before it starts recording again. that doesnt sound like a long time, and for security it’s not normally an issue.. the average bad guy is in and out quickly.. but it is annoying that it takes 5 seconds to re-trigger. So…. 2 minutes of continuous video… but in the middle of that 2 minutes.. a 5 second break.OVERALL – Super high video quality… cams you can move around super easily… a very easy app… I love blink and the upsides far outweigh any downsides. I always recommend it to people when they ask. You can cover your entire house at a super affordable price, you dont need to be rich at all.. Our 3 year old cams are still as good as our brand new ones. The peace of mind the cams bring me is priceless. I know every single thing happening everywhere, all the time outside. The affordability made it possible so that nothing can ever surprise us.

   Excellent video, audio, IR, and customization. “Talk” intercom feature is useless.

   I’ve only had these outdoor cameras for a few days, so I won’t comment on battery life yet. But overall, I’m very happy with these cameras and most of their features. I’m nitpicking a bit here, which is why there are so many Cons. They are minor issues outweighed by the Pros.PROS:* Setup was relatively simple–once you understand it–but the instructions weren’t (see below)* Infrared is awesome in the darkest environments and does a good job switching between IR and non-IR automatically* Motion detection works well, as does the 1-9 sensitivity setting, although this requires some tweaking until you find the right setting for each camera* Daytime video quality is excellent and good enough to read stationary license plates up to about 50 feet.* Audio quality is amazing! Individual birds and nearby bees can be heard easily, and normal volume conversations within about 20 feet can be understood.CONS:* The cameras seem to require an active Internet connection, not just a wifi connection (although I could be wrong). This may be because the initial setup requires you to use cloud storage. This could become a problem if your Internet connection is lost or dropped.* Initial setup requires storage in the cloud (for the free trial), even if you install a USB drive in the sync module. I have not found a way to disable the cloud storage. This cloud storage requirement may be slowing down the entire system, since it forces everything to constantly use the Internet.* Setup instructions were weird and unintuitive. The included booklet simply said to install the app. And the app is kind of confusing at first, and I ended up trying to create an account (and failing) and adding the sync module several times until I figured out what it was doing (and I’m an experienced techie). The basic problem is the app requires cameras to be installed only by following certain steps, with no other option.* Setup requires the mobile app and an active internet connection to install the cameras.* Accessing the cameras and video clips requires the mobile app. There are no desktop app or web options.* Cannot schedule individual cameras. The weekly/hourly schedule can only be set for all cameras attached to a sync module. This is unfortunate and will make the scheduling feature useless for most people. It would also be helpful to be able to set quality, motion detection sensitivity, and IR settings on a schedule. The settings I use for night time would be different than the middle of the day or when I’m not at home.* No quality setting on the audio. There are multiple settings for quality of the videos, to conserve batteries, but there’s no way to turn down the audio quality, for battery conservation. The included audio quality is great, but it seems to be “too” high for the purpose of these cameras.* Only 2 AA batteries in each camera. This could become very cumbersome to replace batteries if your camera is installed in a hard-to-reach location. The cameras SHOULD have 6, 8, or 10 batteries instead, so you don’t have to replace them often. I would happily pay the extra battery cost so that I wouldn’t have to climb up there very often.* When a camera is “in use”, its settings cannot be changed, and if you try to change the settings, you’ll get an error message, causing the app’s settings screen to get out of sync with the camera’s actual settings, until you go back and modify the settings again.* The “Talk” feature produces garbled, broken, delayed (by 3-5 seconds) audio that is unintelligible, no matter how close the camera and sync module are to your router. I have about 115 Mbps bandwidth, and it made no difference. You will never be able to use this to have a conversation of any type, even if they could understand what you’re saying. This seems like a very odd flaw since the recorded audio is so excellent. This was obviously an oversight by the engineers.* The Android app’s setting to disable the vibration on notifications doesn’t work. It always uses my phone’s setting and ignores the app’s setting.* Insects near my 4 cameras are causing 15-30 false alerts per day right now, until I can figure out a better placement or setting. Other than the wear on the batteries, this is not a huge deal, but it can be annoying.* The installation hardware is inadequate. Each camera comes with 2 large wood screws that are too big and too long for almost every installation. Much smaller wood screws and double-sided tape or Velcro would have been much more practical. I ended up not using any of the screws that came with the cameras because they were too big or impossible to use on the required surfaces.* The back panels on the cameras are VERY weird to remove for battery installation. There are no instructions that I could find on how to do this, and the included plastic tools are not intuitive. I nearly broke one of the cameras trying to get the back panel off using the included tool. There’s a certain trick to hooking and unhooking the tool from the back panel that you’ll have to figure out on your own.* The cameras and lenses are fully exposed to sunlight and weather, which is not ideal. The cameras should come with a small hood the lens or camera to protect it even more from weather and shade from light.* User access cannot be customized. The only way to give someone access to a camera is to give them your password to your account and entire system. It would be helpful to be able to grant someone limited or temporary access, such as a neighbor, child, relative, or visitor.

   Exactly What I Needed

   Guys, this is literally TWO webcams and a sync module that takes less than 20 minutes to set up for less than $200. OF COURSE, it’s going to have its limitations lol. Yikes.This is MY upgrade. I had the previous black sync module with the 2 black cams. I used them for about 5 years when finally, the sync module would no longer connect. I disconnected the module and used the cams outside as dummies – which worked fine. But lately stuff has been moved around my property, mail is missing, etc. So, I decided to UPGRADE to this.Is it a perfect system? Absolutely not. But for under $200 it’s pretty dang good.Price: Most of the other 2 cam systems you find are going to be WAY more than $187 (the exact amount for me after taxes). IMO you simply cannot beat this with the simplicity of the setup and the features of the webcam.Features:Camera Placement: Since I had these before, I DO have an advantage. I know where to place the cams because I already have my brackets set up from before. However, if you don’t, you can still follow some pretty simply pictures that will show you JUST how/where to set the cameras up for the best vantage points. Even I will still have to diddle around with the settings on the APP.Night Vision: One of the things that people are stuck by when I show them this setup is the night vision. It’s actually really good. We have next to zero lights around my property and yet the night vision works so well. Not just at picking up motion, but the quality is really good (I have mine set at BEST and IDC if I have to install new batteries every month!)Storage: One of the reasons it took me so long to purchase this NEW generation of cameras was because I knew that with the OLD system, they let us use our phones storage for clips and photos. These NEW cameras either MAKE you use a subscription OR you can use your own usb flash. I call BS. IDK why they do this. I bought the cams. I have the app. I have the phone. I DEFINITELY have the storage. Thankfully I have a flash drive, so I’ll just plug that in. But still. Kind of annoying!Quality: The quality of these cams is LESS THAN the other cams I had. In fact, I would say the OLD cams are a little better than these in a few aspects. However, I’m not using these to send them into national Geography lol I just want to see who’s on my property and what they are doing. If you EXPECT NG quality, you’re barking up the wrong tree.Audio: The audio was as good now as it was before. You can clearly hear people talking, walking, coughing, etc.Setup: Setup is super easy. I even created a new account from my other account because my other account was being annoying. It took me less than 20 minutes to setup and that was WITH a hiccup.- Try the old directions first (I did NOT reset with a red light, I used blue blinking, green solid)- Make sure the app is updated- Make sure the batteries are IN the webcams otherwise it won’t “find” them- Make sure you ARM the cameras- Make sure you are on WIFI not DataInternet Access: Uh duh. These are WIFI cameras so yea they use InTeRnEt. I saw someone write a review that was just them complaining and yelling about how it uses internet and it’s irresponsible of Amazon to use Internet based cameras and it was about as many words as War and Peace. Dude. As long as you are using a PASSWORD with your Wi-Fi and you aren’t telling the neighbor kids about it or posting it publicly, you will be fine. I promise. And yes the cameras do go down if you do not have internet because… they are internet cameras. LOL.The APP: One of the things I really like about the app (because not all camera companies offer this) is that I can be literally anywhere in the world and get a notification about my property. Not only that but I can VIEW that clip and take further action by either calling the police if it’s serious or deleting the clip if it’s not. You can also share clips, save clips (to your phone or email).Customer Service: Don’t quote me on this, but when I had the old system CS was amazing. In fact, there was a specific time when I had a neighbor kid that was terrorizing my house, flipping the camera the bird, peeing on my house, etc. and I accidentally DELETED the clips (I was meaning to save them!) and I asked CS what could be done, and they were able to retrieve them for me.While this isn’t the BEST system, it’s about as good as you can get for under $200 with these features.I hope this helps someone.

   Not cold weather friendly

   These are great little,cameras, until they’re not.Last winter, as the temps dipped and rose and dipped and rose, the camera stopped operating when the temps dipped. I would get notifications saying it was basically too cold for them to operate – typically around 20-25 degrees. This is the problem with wireless cameras – the batteries cannot take the cold, and the cold weather causes the batteries to drain faster. So, by mid-January mine were out, front and back, because who the heck wants to go out and dork around on a ladder in the snow, to retrieve a camera, bring it in to charge it, then go out and try to re-mount it with frozen fingers?Solar panels for them are an option and they’re a pretty decent price with pretty decent ratings. However, you know that old expression about putting something where “the sun don’t shine?” Well, that place would be Rochester, New York. We see very little of the sun during the winter months – I’m talking at least 5 out of every 7 days, sometimes more, where it is gloomy, overcast and dismal, between December and the end of March or April.Then there’s the issue of snow accumulation if the solar panel is on the roof where the best sun exposure is and, once again, around here, it’s not unusual to have a few inches of snow or ice or both accumulated in this area.So, if you live in a climate like I just described, you will want the wired cameras, not these battery operated ones, unless you relish working in the snowy cold weather getting the batteries charged up.Beyond that, these are GREAT little cameras. Crisp, sharp pictures, excellent color, and they pick up everything – bugs, birds, cottonwood debris, and Amazon delivery workers. 😁 And, the night vision is just as sharp!

   Wow, these cameras…….well, here’s an honest review of this system. I’m not up to date on tech things. So, I had someone come to set it up. Cost me $70, worth it for me, then it didn’t work. These cameras aren’t set up a great distance, maybe 40 ft. It didn’t work, they were mounted in out buildings, garages, barn, etc.I had to buy a wifi booster, and of course $70 to set that up. That’s just cause I don’t know how. Now it’s up, the cameras work great, with one exception, I’m trying to catch a thief, not deter one. These cameras light up like christmas at night. If ya want to catch someone, these ain’t the best, but for general use, they are awesome. It has adjustable sensitivity to activate, the night vision is awesome. I wake up and check my cameras to see coons, cats, bugs, spiders, etc. and to me that’s great. If they can figure a way so that they don’t light up when IR is activated they would be perfect. I could use another 50 yards more coverage, but ya get what you pay for. I bought the doorbell, refurbished, but it was broken. the clip to hold it closed came off as soon as I put in the batteries in and closed it. I’d like to comment on the doorbell, but I havent had it set up yet, prob another $70, BUT that’s cause I don’t know electronics. I’ve stopped the theft, but haven’t caught the thief yet. I wanted several cameras to give live views of all, this doesnt do it but it holds it all on your phone till it is reviewed and deleted. Good product.

    Clear, customizable, budget friendly

    These are awesome. We had a wired security system with a DVR. It was good for a couple of years, but we were never able to connect that system to our wifi, so all of the on-line features were never operational. These are much better in every way.Ease of use. These little cameras, along with their sync module, are so easy to set up and use. Just download the app onto your phone, put batteries in, connect the sync module to your wifi and connect each camera to the sync module. It may take a minute to “find” each camera, but if I can do it anyone can. Even mounting them is easy. All you need is an impact or drill with a Phillips head bit, and screws that are long enough. I mounted two on trees in the front yard with ease, and bought another type of mount that is wound around the back of my mailbox post.Clarity. This system offer a much clearer picture than the wired system and with amazing motion detection. It even picks up a small dark gray cat using night vision and motion detection. That’s amazing because I have a hard time detecting the cat at night. It blends in with the grass. Zooming in does not really help because it makes nothing clearer. I suppose that has something to do with the pixels, but that’s above my pay grade.Placement. You are only limited by two things: the signal strength of your wifi, and where you can reach. No wires or heavy cameras to handle while climbing a ladder. I have one of these at least 100 feet from the sync module and it’s never offered to not work.Value. Pair the cost of the system and the yearly fee of $100 ($109 including tax) and it’s hard to beat, plus Amazon give a 10% discount on Blink products with the package. And the yearly fee for the package is not maditory. I chose to go with it because I am 150 miles away from the location where I have these and it just made more sense to be able to see and hear whatever is going on at any time.One downfall. The only downfall I have found has to do with the audio. Do not expect to be able to communicate clearly with anyone through this system. First, there is a lag between letting off the microphone and when the other person’s voice can be detected. It results in a lot of talking over each other and missing the first few words of the other person.Helpful functions. You can easily set up and turn off and on notifications, recording schedules, motion detection and it’s sensitivity, quality and length of recordings and night vision, and you can block out certain areas of the view so repetitive & expected movement (like traffic on a busy road) can be ignored.I am extremely happy with the Blink system and products and I will recommend them to anyone who is interested in keeping their family and/or property safe. Especially those who want to protect their budget.

    I think Blink has the best outdoor cameras for the money at this point

    I have had Blink cameras now for maybe 6 or 7 years, somewhere around the same time that I bought an Arlo system. The blink cameras have had excellent battery life, and in the odd case of one failing Blink got me a replacement pronto without a lot of huffing and puffing. Arlo is now end-of-lifeing the system I have so once they stop recording anything I guess I will be switching to all Blink, which is a shame because I like the design of the Arlo system but I’m not going to keep replacing $250-300 camera systems every couple of years because they want me to upgrade. I’m still using Blink cameras on the previous generation, and their app is excellent and can handle multiple locations at once.

    A wonderful product

    I replaced my WYZE security camera system with the wireless, Blink Outdoor 3rd. Generation, 2 year lithium battery powered cameras. This Blink system is a much better system than the WYZE system. It is a flexible system that is very easy to set-up and I certainly don’t mind replacing the batteries every 2 years or so. Various add-on camera mounts are also available, which makes installation of the cameras even more flexible. One of the reasons I got rid of my WYZE cameras is that the customer service at WYZE sucks! Their customer service call center is in, I believe, in a foreign country and the agents have a hard time understanding me even tho I try to speak plainly as possible. I am very satisfied with my Blink cameras and I highly recommend them. I purchased my cameras while they were on sale at Amazon. Got a great deal!

    Good, not great

    There are a lot of features I really like very much. I like that the mount uses a ball joint that can be spun or tilted into whatever orientation you need. You can then start a live recording and watch how the field of view changes as you reposition the camera in real time so you can aim it exactly where you want it. Keep in mind you can use this as a portable system if you want to. I just mounted mine onto an 18-inch piece of 2×4 and put it where ever I want it on any given day.I like that you can set “no motion” zones of the field of view where motion will not trip the camera. In like manner, you can set “privacy” zones that blank out that part of the recorded image entirely. The motion sensitivity is adjustable, so is the intensity of the infrared feature, so is the length of recording (5 to 60 seconds), so is the time that must pass between recordings (10 to 60 seconds).I’m not really testing the limits of the Sync Module and WiFi connectivity because I’m not monitoring a huge area and I only have one camera, but everything works well and I have no reason to think it wouldn’t continue to work well if I added more cameras.The cloud storage subscription issue is a matter of personal preference. I have no problem with it and I can afford $30 a year. If that’s not for you, the Sync Module can accept a flash drive up to 256GB for local storage.The battery life will obviously be determined by the settings you use for the length, quality, and frequency of recordings, but even under ideal conditions, I’m a little skeptical about the two-year battery life claim. We’ll see.The picture quality is adequate but not impressive, especially as distance increases. The infrared is adjustable to three levels but even at the lowest settings it has a tendency to wash out things in the foreground, so if a person is standing very close to the camera, their face will be kind of a white blur.Overall, my opinion is positive. For the price, this obviously isn’t Fort Knox caliber, but if I decide on multiple cameras for whole-home security, I’ll stick with this system before trying anything else.

    Adequate, Affordable Security Solution – But Not Perfect

    First, I have not been paid or compensated in any way for this review. I am also not the sort of person who lives in a world of absolutes, i.e., love it/hate it, 1-star/5-star. So I have given the Blink system 3 stars. It is a functional, adequate system. It could use some work to improve it. I would actually go 3.5/5 if that was possible, but it just hasn’t quite earned that 4th star yet.To start with, I had absolutely no issues with installation or setup. It literally could not be easier. So let’s start with setup. You can do the initial setup indoors, sitting on your couch. Because that’s exactly what I did. First, install the Blink app on your phone. Then plug in your Sync Module, let it boot up, connect it to your wifi. The app literally walks you through every step. Next, install the batteries in the cameras and LEAVE THE COVER OFF. You will need to scan the QR code inside. This QR code pretty much handles the entire setup process for every camera you have (or will ever buy in the future). It’s that simple! And because they are battery powered and wireless, you do not have to do any setup after you install them outdoors. This is the beauty of this system. I really do not understand how anyone could have difficulty setting this up (I am very technical, but you do NOT need to be to set this up!).Finally, and this is just common sense but it seems a lot of people did not do this, REMOVE THE PROTECTIVE FILM from each camera. I am willing to bet that at least half of the people complaining about “terrible night vision” left the film over the lens…If you have a power drill (hammer drill recommended if you’re going into concrete) you can install the camera mounts (and the Blink doorbell, which I will review separately). I am not a guy who spends every spare minute in his garage, but I’m also handy enough to do things for myself. The only drawback I found was that there is no suggested drill bit size anywhere in the instructions, in the packaging or online (at least in Blink’s own documentation). This is a bit of a problem. I first used ⅛” and it was much too large – the screws were loose. So I actually had to move the mount over about ¾” and drill a new 3/32″ hole. The screws were able to grab the concrete and hold fast with no issues this way (I did use an impact driver to put the screws in).Not so great is the software. Overall, I think this is the best home automation app I’ve used so far, and I am including the Alexa app, Alarm.com, Kasa, Eufy and Apple Home. However … when I receive an alert that there is motion detected by one of the cameras, I can’t connect to it. It just shows the spinning “connecting” logo. I have started to get around this by just going directly to Live View, but you can’t connect to Live View while it’s recording! So this is a major drawback. Essentially, you have to wait until the event that triggered motion detection is over before you can see what’s going on. It’s not a total deal breaker – you have the event recorded. But I see this as a major software drawback and it knocked a full star off for me. Also extremely annoying after a couple months of using the system is the way you have to delete each video individually? Why is there no batch delete or “Delete All Events”? This is common sense and just bad UX.Wifi signal via 2.4GHz (Zyxel 802.11ax WAP) is adequate. Driveway camera gets 2-3 bars out of 5 (separated by multiple interior walls and the entire garage). Backyard camera is only separated from it by a single wall with a large window it, so it gets full signal. Adequate, only ever had 1 “low signal” warning so far and it went away quickly.I used the cloud service trial until it expired, but chose not to pay for it. I see no advantage if you have a decent USB stick lying around. Setting up local storage is easy. But you are NOT required to use the cloud service! I don’t understand all of the outraged reviews about this. The price for this system is LOW (go look at how much a wired system like Ubiquiti UniFi will cost you), and then people are going crazy over $3/month? Moreover, you don’t have to use the service at all! I switched to local storage once the trial period was up. There is very little difference between cloud and local. But I do not think the price of the cloud service is unfair. Early adopters of Blink may be annoyed because their older cameras were grandfathered in. But things change, and no doubt Blink offered this as a “loss-leading” service in order to get market share. Remember – if a tech service is “free”, it’s because YOU are the product (your personal data is being sold to advertisers).The final .5 stars off is directly related to this – Blink is an Amazon company. Amazon is not known for its commitment to customer privacy. So I am a little wary about what sort of data they collect, share, and even sell, especially for folks using the cloud service. But so far I’m very happy with the system overall and I will be purchasing a second system for my elderly parents.

    New and Improved Camera !

    This new camera is better then the Blink xt2 ! It has been totally re-engineered. Take it from someone who owns all the different cameras Blink had to offer since day one and had to get on a waiting list to get the very first one. So, I should know what iam talking about. This new camera no longer has the push down and pull system to open the back to install batteries. It has a large screw that you simply unscrew with a included tool to open the back of the camera which is really nice. Once you open the back and install the included batteries scan the small QR code inside the camera threw the blink app it will scan to find the camera once that is done it will automatically do a firmware update. After that you are ready to install your new blink camera. Also noticed the sound is much louder and more clear then the other cameras. This is good if two people are talking in a low voice you can hear what they are saying. Has brighter clearer night vision. Nice clear voice communication with two way talk. Alot stronger wifi signal to sink module and from sink module to camera. Sharp, clear, bright, and colorful HD vision during the day. I noticed before I wrote this review that some people only gave this camera 2 or 3 stars. Like the guy who is complaining about software issues. Well if you follow the directions you would not have that problem. Let the camera finish its firmware update. Duh ! Also, if you have been a Blink customer for a while and want to add this camera to your current system. You do not have to pay for cloud storage you are grandfathered in. After you add this camera to your existing system it will actually tell you this ! The front of the camera has a all new face with a very smooth and shinny surface iam sure to help combat the weather and give it a more high tec look. Their is no longer a switch inside the camera to turn on or off the blue recording light located on the front of the camera. It’s is all done threw the app which is really nice as well. They really did a good job in re-engineering this camera and listened to customer complaints about their past cameras and went threw and fixed every issue. I would definitely buy this camera again ! UPDATE : 09-25-20 After using this camera for a couple of days. And as other reviewers have noted that this camera only has a 25 foot motion trigger ! Anything further than 25 feet it will NOT record when motion is present. So if you need a camera get the Blink XT2 for the further range. This camera will only be good for specific areas like door or window that are within the 20 to 25 foot range from the camera.

    Good but…

    These are great little cameras, we have 6. Good quality video, moderate audio quality, trigger sensitivity works similar to other cameras on the market. The batteries are “ok” as long as your not running the camera 24/7. But…what SUCKS about these outdoor cameras is the mount design. They are TERRIBLE! Why can’t the camera screw onto or have a magnetic place on the mount? The whole push-snap design is AWFUL, especially when your perched up on a ladder and trying to give it the force it needs to “snap” into place. AND the flaw is magnified each time you have to change batteries. I’m glad I haven’t fallen off of the ladder yet. I truly hope Amazon fixes this design issue soon!

    If you can’t sync the Sync Module and range of Camera

    I bought the product and I think that the directions are lacking. They say they are in the app and self explanatory, but only so so.Download the App and Sync the Module and then you have to sync the Camera next.For some reason when I moved the camera and the Sync Module they became un-synched and no matter what I did they would not sync again or find the WiFi. I’ve seen here many ppl with this issue in the reviews and it is Frustrating and I almost sent the box back but I called Tech support and I had Abby helping me within 2 minutes.To save you all the trouble and time this is what you do to resync the Module, Camera, Phone, and WiFi if it fails to do so after it has lost connectivity. You need to do a “Hard Reset”.First unplug your WiFi for 30 sec’s and replug in. Pull the batteries out of the Camera for 30 seconds and put them back in. Unplug the Sync Module and hold the reset button on the back of the module down for 30 seconds while it is unplugged and then replug it in while holding the reset button down continuously. Once the Sync Module is plugged back in let go of the reset button. Let it cycle through which takes a minute and then go to the App and add the Module and Camera again. Good Luck. I hope it saves you the couple hours I spent doing reset after reset and watching the circle thing go round and round while it was trying to connect but never did.PS: BTW, I have the Camera about 40′ away from the Sync module with a direct line of sight through a window and I have No connection problems.

    Batteries are good after saying they are dead

    I have purchased and added to the system a total of 19 cameras in the last two years. When the blink system works, it’s good. When it doesn’t, which is a lot of the time, it’s not great.BATTERIES: when the camera says the batteries are dying, I replace them with new ones. I haven’t found a place to take the lithium batteries and I just got a battery tester so I tested them. Many of them were still good. Only 22 of the 89 batteries were dead. I just put two batteries that the tester says are good in the camera and it’s saying low battery.AppThere have been a ton of improvements since I started using it.There’s no way to mark all unwatched videos as watched so if it’s super windy and you have 200 videos of a bush being blown around overnight, you can either delete *all* the videos from that camera or you have to tap each one to clear them, and when it takes an average of three seconds to start every video, it’s time consuming, and it’s a waste of data. There’s no way to filter on unwatched videos or save favorites, and there is no web interface. They recently added snoozing notifications per camera which is great end it has a few options ranging from 30 minutes to 4 hours, but it’s missing the “until I turn it back on” option.Errors, issues, and weirdness-Live view failed-Failed to update camera-Clip cannot be viewed at this time -Camera(s) failed to arm-Camera(s) failed to disarm-Network request failed: the operation couldn’t be completed. No space left on device (I have a paid plan)-System is busy, please wait-App crashes-Sometimes get sound for live video even if device volume is on mute-54 seconds or more to filter videos-30 seconds or more to play a video at times-Camera offline even though it’s closer to the hotspot than others-camera has three lights (red LED, red flashing light in motion sensor, blue LED) and one is explained (blue LED)CamerasI have had 19 cameras about a year and some of them work as expected, while others don’t. On two, when I start a live view, it never actually starts or records – it just sits and spins and then stops. If I do a live view with one camera and go to the next camera to do a live view, it tells me that I can’t proceed because a live view is in progress and asks me to wait – like it only records one video at a time for the whole system. On one cam I have sensitivity set pretty high because it will not record obvious motion, but it records what looks like no motion. Cameras are inconsistent: I did a test where I set four cameras up facing the same thing and made sure their settings were all identical. They all recorded different amounts of the motion and at different volume levels one time, and another couple of times I ran the test, different cameras would record some motion and others not at all. It also only uses lithium batteries which, in my area, are not recyclable.The camera: pretty good quality, but anytime you change the settings (add clip length, sensitivity), a note that it will decrease battery life pops up, so I imagine 2 years battery life isn’t realistic – at all. Particularly because I use it for wildlife monitoring (bluebirds, chickadees, hummingbirds, etc.). Edit: it’s been 2.5 weeks and I’m replacing the first set of five sets of batteries.The cam has a red light that sometimes comes on even though I have it set in the app to not show the recording light. I will have to tape over this in the camera that’s inside a nest box so as not to disturb the mom or nestlings.The thermometer may or may not be even somewhat accurate. This morning it’s 50 outside but one of the five cameras’ thermometers reads 29, and this particular thermometer is consistently off.——————-The app (reviewed because you HAVE to use it with the cameras): It’s pretty good (fast, responsive, featured) but like anything, could use a few tweaks.Wish: The ability to favorite videos and filter on favorites, the ability to filter on unwatched, a history of camera temperatures, a trash folder, and a website interface. Also for the videos to at least keep date and time in the metadata, and possibly add as a setting to display on the video.Strange: when I download the video to my iphone and edit it, it shows up as a black square when previewing or re-editing. This is not the case with videos taken with other devices. The video looks fine, but it’s hard – sometimes impossible – to edit (and select from in the album).I attached a flash drive and let the free cloud plan lapse. Going from the cloud plan to the app using USB storage is like going from a Nissan Sentra to a Ford model T, and probably by design. not only do you lose a lot of functionality,* for some strange reason the camera names are mixed up with the content of the file. for instance, I have a camera at a fountain and a camera at the feeder, and sometimes I get footage of the fountain with the name of the feeder. It also tells me that my storage is 40% full even though I delete all the clips.* it’s super slow, there are no previews, you cannot filter, and no bulk edit.

    Replacement batteries are great!

    ****Update****I received the replacement batteries Tuesday as I was promised by the Blink representative. I put them in, checked the battery status and it shows OK. It is now Friday, the batteries still show OK and I am happy with the service of the Blink outdoor camera. I only have one issue and that is the wi-fi reception. That is not the Blink though. I live in an apartment with firewalls that cause issues with the reception. It causes a lag time on the camera. If not for that,it would be perfect. I will definitely buy more Blink products in the future.I received the camera and put it up the day I got it. In 12 hours the batteries that came with it were dead and the camera was no good. I called Amazon who did a three way call to Blink services with me. Blink services is sending me batteries that are taking way too long to be sent out. I just hope I get them this week. I have 2 Blink Mini’s that I love and have never had issues with which is why I ordered this outdoor camera. Hopefully once the batteries come (by Tuesday the info says) the camera will work. If not, I will return the camera for a refund. I am not a satisfied customer at this time.Once I get the batteries I will do an update.

    This is not a security camera and totally useless and slow: DO NOY BUY

    I do not know where should I start. First, I have never ever seen a security or surveillance camera which does not have date/time on the recorded/live video. This camera has neither. This is why is not not referred to as a security camera by Blink. They just call it an outdoor camera. This is why it is also so low priced.Local storage: Since the Blink Sync module is included with this camera, I only needed a good quality USB flash drive for local storage. The recorded video at highest quality is max 4-12MB in size, so even a 8GB flash drive would record for months. The caveat with local storage is that the camera will record ONLY when armed AND movement is detected. That’s it. It will not record anything else. This is mentioned clearly in the Blink cloud storage plans. With cloud storage, it can do live recording but only on demand.Movement sensing: Horrible. Absolutely horrible. The camera setup describes that the camera should NOT be pointed to any moving objects like streets, trees, plants and shrubs, areas with lot of movement etc. Where does that leave us? I mounted it to watch over the car parked on the driveway. Then I masked off the street and trees and everything else. But, the driveway gets lots of sunlight. So, shadows cast by moving cars cause false notification so any times. I tried to reduce sensitivity to 3 but then, randomly, the camera would ignore movement when my wife’s car pulls on the driveway. It is a Honda Accord, so not small in size. Now I have to live with so many false notifications. Even in the night, if a car’s light shine on my parked car, the camera causes false notification. If any slightest movement is detected, for example, by a shrub swaying in wind, the camera will detect motion and send notification. If running the camera on battery, these false alerts will cause battery to deplete quickly.A word about zones: The motion detection zones are only rectangular. With Advanced setting, the rectangle size only gets smaller but they are still rectangular, so either I have to mask off everything in the entire rectangle or leave it unmasked. So, if a rectangle covers some part of my car and some part of the street, I have to mask off the car because otherwise the movement on the street triggers a false alarm. Compared to Ring camera, where I can define non-rectangular zones, this is a huge negative. Now, most of my car’s rear is masked off to prevent false alerts from the cars on the street. Even if the rectangle covers 99% of car but only 1% of street, it will trigger false alert even on sensitivity set to 3. Major problem.Recording: The recording starts after camera senses a movement, so there is no pre-movement recording. I have cameras which record 5-10 seconds of pre-movement video so when watching the recording, I can clearly see what triggered the camera. With Blink camera, since recording starts after it detects movement, only first one second of video has the event which triggered the camera. If it is a quickly passing object, almost impossible to figure out what happened. You have to have really sharp eyes to catch that.Recorded Files: Since there is no date/time stamp on the videos, the only way to see the date/time of recording is by downloading the recorded files. The file name contains the date/time. However, if the USB flash drive is removed and connected to a computer, these files do not have date/time and their creation date is in UTC time. Unless someone carries a UTC to local time converter in their heads, impossible to know the date/time of recording. Absolutely horrible design. The recorded files can be deleted one at a time from the Blink app. This is extremely slow and frustrating process. I tried to remove the USB flash drive and delete the recorded files by connecting it to a laptop, but ran into the issue of UTC timestamp instead of local time.Speed: This camera is slow, slow, slow. I am guessing that the live video viewing and accessing recorded files passes via Blink cloud, it takes long time to see the live video or access the recordings. After viewing maybe 30 seconds of live video, the app asks me to press the continue button to keep watching. This is a major annoyance.Live video: The camera does not automatically show live video when the app is launched. It shows a static picture of the monitored area which I took when setting up the camera. So, if the camera is later moved (say it moves during battery change, it will definitely move during battery change and there is no way to position it exactly the same), it would be a good idea to take a new picture and readjust the motion zones. Another major annoyance. So, I purchased a power adapter. Now the camera is powered from the USB and does not require battery change.Battery operation: There are some settings which Blink recommends for optimal battery life. If left on those settings, the videos recoded with IR on would be so poor quality that you won’t be able identify any person. They are grainy and pixelated. Good idea to power it by USB power if possible.Mounting: Again, plain horrible. It takes a ton of strength to push the camera into the mount but it gets knocked out very easily. When doing setting, if I moved the camera beyond the mount’s limit, it would just pop-out and fall off. Then I would have to push it again into the mount and restart the process. Same thing will happen when the camera needs a battery change. Entire setup and motion zones would need to be setup again.I only got this camera because it is inconspicuous when mounted on the front. Other cameras are bulky and have a snout protruding out. We do not have much crime in the area, only sporadic, petty car break-ins have been reported in the recent months, so I am keeping this camera. Otherwise, I would have gone in for a more robust, real security camera.Update 5/1/2023: I have configured the camera to record for 1 minute after movement is detected. However, it is recording clips of 1-10 seconds duration only. Opened ticket with their support and they just keep blaming the ISP/WiFi Router/WiFi speed and so on without providing any evidence of any actual wifi related issue. All this while the Blink app keeps showing a full 4 bar signal between camera and sync module and wifi connection. Support is totally useless. Save your money and buy some other camera.

    my amazon packages were stolen off of my front porch the other day. I guess robbers are realizing that when the blue motion light turns off it takes a bit to turn back on and keep recording. Well this particular robber waited and then snatched my packages. So I bought more cameras. Although they go off ALLLLLLL day. constant notifications. I feel much more secure.

    Battery life is not what it claims , plus a few other down sides

    We currently have this camera outside of our apartment building facing our car . The quality is actually quite good , and on the first night we put it out, it rained pretty heavy outside which gave it its first test . It worked great in the rain but I have a few major complaints .. the biggest complaint being that 2 year battery life is a stretch . Even the app tells you if people are constantly walking by / cars driving by , the batteries will only last a month or so. That’s my first complaint… my second complaint is that this camera is essentially made to be a camera that only creates short clips .. you can set it to record long clips if whatever is in front of the camera is there for a while .. but the default setting is for 10 second clips in order to save battery life. For years I’ve used YI home and it records clips however long they need to be .. if someone is standing in front of that camera for 5 straight minutes , it will record all of it until they move .. this camera feels more like a monitoring device rather than a security camera if that makes sense. This is great if you need to place it in an area that rarely has foot traffic or cars passing by, also if you don’t need large clips of whatever your recording , so this would work well as a door camera . Since this camera runs on batteries , the default settings will be to limit as much recording as possible and keep clips short and if you increase the clips lengths , the camera warns you that you will get little battery life . This is the downside to it not being connected to a power source , you can also get a live view at any time but after using it for even 20 seconds it asks you “continue?” Because it’s really trying to conserve battery as much as possible ..EDIT :Here’s a list of pros and cons after using this camera for over a month .Pros : wireless , good video quality , good size , easy to install , can be set to record at a schedule , can be set to ignore certain spots that are in frame like a tree moving in the wind , works well rain or heat .Cons : where do I begin ?1. By default this camera will only record in 10 second clips . You can adjust it to record 1 minute clips at the longest , once the camera has finished recording a 1 minute clip , it can not be re triggered to record another clip for at least another 10 seconds . This is a bit of a downside because you could miss something important . Also another thing that bugs me is that sometimes it will stop filming even though there continues to be movement in front of it . For example you can set the clips to be 1 minute long or have the camera automatically stop recording if the movement has stopped before it reaches 1 minute . But if you set it on this , it doesn’t work well . Many times people have walked by and it stops recording while they’re still in frame .2. We have used this camera for over a month now and we have already replaced the batteries once . It is actually recommended that you use lithium batteries because they last longer but note that they are also a lot more expensive than regular alkaline batteries . A 6 pack of lithium batteries cost about $15-16 dollars (as an example typical batteries cost that much for a pack of 20) . So the cost will add up3. When it records a little red light turns on and you can hear a small little click , I personally do not like this as I would prefer it to be completely silent and discreetFor all the reasons I already mentioned I could see this camera working decent if you place it in a spot that rarely has foot traffic / cars driving by . Possibly as a door camera , maybe garage or if you just need to monitor an area sometimes like when you’re out , it could possibly work . If you need to monitor an area all the time , you will be replacing the batteries often and you might want to go for wired camera

    They are easy to set up. Plan the placement carefully. Batteries need changed frequently and should be easy enough to reach for this maintenance.Be aware of the costs associated with this system. Distance is an integral part of placements for clear identification pictures.Great for just monitoring activity.

    Good… but…

    Super easy to set up and install. Can’t quite figure out why one of the cameras doesn’t pick up all activity but overall they are good. HOWEVER… if the sync module loses its connection you have to physically reset it so using this for a property that you aren’t at daily isn’t great. I’ve only had it happen 3 times since I bought the system 6 months ago but considering this will be a vacant property soon that’s not great. Would I buy it again? Probably? Not sure how much of a problem the sync module losing connection will be over time so I may update this review. The most recent time it lost connectivity wasn’t an issue with the internet – nothing else in the house lost connection and there was no internet downtime so…

    Mixed opinion on this product

    I am a early Blink adopter, I’ve been using these cameras going back to when they first shipped and I am on my 3rd refresh, my first set was indoor only, then I upgraded when the first outdoor cameras came out and I just purchased 6 more outdoor cameras to replace my current ones that are over 4 years old. The thing I do not like about these cameras is their motion detection can’t distinguish a person from a moving leaf or shadow so I get constant false trigger alarms…I have reset the zones countless times but shadows to change accordingly so I consider Blink a monitoring system, not a security system. I still believe in Blink so I hope their software catches up. FYI their doorbell works great, I have no issues there.

    Decent Camera, functional app… no way 2 year battery life

    We used this camera above our door to catch people coming and going. The camera itself is nice, it doesn’t draw a lot of attention, records and has a good live view. My issue is that this camera lasts 6 months max. I could have a defective battery but I just don’t see a way for it to last two years.

    Works great

    I had a blink mini camera outside in an aftermarket weatherproof covering and it was useless. Too sensitive getting set off by moths and other bugs all night long. If I turned the sensitivity down then it wouldn’t record anything. I was hoping that the outdoor camera would work better and it does. With good tech support and the app and the decent indoor mini’s m, I am confident about my home’s security system now.

    Good quality & caught the pooper

    Bought these because someone’s dog kept pooping in my front yard. Set the cameras up (very easy to do) & simply waited for the nighttime poop leaver. Caught plenty of cats, birds & even a wasp who triggered the camera quickly after install. The pooper kept evading us so I set another one up. Finally caught the little rascal & the owner walking him. Needless to say, camera evidence trumped the ‘it isn’t my dog card’ & there hasn’t been poop since.

    Blink Outdoor – Can’t beat it for the price and easy setup

    This review is for the Outdoor, 5 camera Motion Activated systemI bought this based on a friends purchase. I’ll consider this camera system a starter set. I am pleased with it for the price range. The setup is super easy, those that complained about that I can not figure out why, it is REALLY easy using the mobile app. I’ll go out on a limb and say if you buy an outdoor version like me, your pretty much going to need a WiFi extender. My cameras are spread over 120 ft.In my opinion, the hardest part is getting the cameras spot picked out and mounted (usually requiring a ladder) so it works as intended.A major point of that last statement is that you may have to go back and tweak a cameras position just slightly. You probably won’t get it just right the first time out. You will probably spend the first two weeks playing with camera position, walking around in front of it to activate it, Privacy zones to block unwanted constant pick ups (traffic), and other features to get the camera to work well. I had one that was a little flaky picking up the view I wanted, I moved it’s position literally a 1/8″ and it started working great—little tweaks like this may be needed.I recommend using the advanced setting on the privacy zones to really fine tune it. You may have to tweak the cameras position to better fit the grid layout on the zones.I have one camera that is really high up (16 feet), I am going to wire in a outlet and get a power adapter for the camera so I never have to worry about battery life. All the rest of my cameras can be reached with a smaller 6 foot step ladder. You must use Lithium only batteries (Energizer’s included).Battery life will based on your usage. If your going to be outside moving around the yard, disarm the system unless you just have to see yourself.You can do live views anytime and save the clips also…a nice feature…but again, usage and battery life.My friend has these setup at a lakeside camp 150 miles away and over a year and a half so far on the original batteries, his home system is also going on just over 1 year on it’s original batteries. I hope for similar results.Delete your clips to keep the storage space clear and clean.Overall, this system is good if you just want to keep an eye on things. If you have issues you need help identifying people, license plates, etc, this may not be for you, you may have to step up and pay for a better 4k system such as a Lorax wired system.The Good:Easy set up (you should buy a WiFi extender–I bought a TP Link unit)Lets you see your cameras any time, any where with the App.Included USB port for a thumb drive (highly recommended) so you don’t have to have a cloud subscriptionWorks good as intended, if you follow some key points in the instructions.Cameras activate well if item is going across view (left to right).Day time views are pretty good, you won’t see license plates, its standard setting is 720DPI, the high 1080DPI setting is better, but you still wont see license plates—but it consumes more battery life.The Bad:Night vision is just so -so. Black and White, all you’ll see is if someone is there, not who it is.Night vision is slightly better if you turn up the IR, but at the cost of battery life.The talk back is not very loud at all. Most people can’t hear unless within 8 feet or less.I wish it had a panic alarm to scare off would be people.Object coming straight towards camera will not always activate it.I had to turn the sensitivity to a higher level on all cameras to get them to work what I felt was correct

    Great view both during the Day and the Night

    Never had a security type system before but this was way easy to setup and start using. Custom detection area makes it even better as I don’t have to worry about picking up my neighbors moving in their own yards. Night vision looks great as well. Such a clear picture even when no light near by.

    I must preface this review by telling all that I am a mechanical klutz but semi-tech savvy. I should also advise that I only received and assembled this product a few hours ago so I will certainly learn more as time passes and I will amend this review accordingly. Having said that, there are a few things that I should mention for the benefit of all other klutz’s out there. The first thing I noticed is that there are no detailed instructions! Everyone noted in Amazon revewes how easy installation was so I wasn’t all that concerned when placing my order. I should have been. Inexcusable that there were no instructions. I resorted to going to You Tube and found a couple of videos that were very helpful. But even with the videos, I had some very simple but troubling issues. I am after all a klutz.The first step in installation is to download the Blink app. Much to my surprise, the free Blink app is not compatible with a desktop PC Windows computer. It is primarily an Android app so I was compelled to download the app to my Android phone. Now I realize that most would not have an issue doing that but I wish I had known that because I prefer to control my surveillance systems on my PC. I suspect there may be 3rd party companies that offer Blink compatible software for PC’s but again, I wish I had known beforehand. I am still investigating and will likely find a solution to use the app on my PC but for now, can only use compatible devices.The cameras and the module are all wrapped in a thin and almost invisible plastic wrap. One of the first steps is to install the provided 2 Lithium AA batteries in the rear of each of the cameras. I finally figured out how to get the back plate/cover off the camera and it was a little frustrating. First, you should know that there is a rubber plug that covers the screw which holds the back plate. You need to take that plug out to access the screw. The kit provided a plastic key that fits into the screw and can be used to unscrew the screw. Simple right? Well, I turned and turned and turned the screw but the back plate would not come off. I finally figured out that there was a very thin and invisible plastic that wrapped around the edges of the camera body and that it had to be removed because it otherwise prevented the back plate from releasing once it was unscrewed. Yes, you have to have had eagle eyes to have seen that plastic film and it was a little tricky getting it off. (I warned you that I was a klutz.) Ok, so now that I removed the plastic, I found a notch in the back plate to help lift it out of the camera body. That now revealed the slots where to install the batteries and the slots were adequately marked to show polarity positions. But after you install the batteries – do not screw the cover back on. Why? Because you need to access the camera ID serial numbers. Again, I had to find this out on my own because there were no instructions! Also know that once you do screw the back plate back on, it should be orientated properly and there is only one way that will happen even though the cover will go on any way. The easiest way to orient the plate correctly is to ensure that the USB C port opening lines up with the USB C port on the camera.Synching the module and each of the cameras was relatively easy so I won’t belabor these steps. The You Tube videos were very helpful to get through these steps. But here’s another setup klutz problem I came across. To mount the cameras, there are mounting bases that attach to the back of the camera body by snapping into that area where the screw is located. Sounds easy enough but it is a little tricky. First, understand that the mounts need to be screwed into whatever house structure your attaching the camera to. But the holes in the mount are situated in such a manner that it is impossible to access the holes once the camera is attached. So you need to first screw the mount on to the wall before attaching the camera. The only problem with that is you now have to snap the camera on to the mount and as I mentioned above, that was a little difficult.OK, now that I had the cameras set up, figuring out how to work the system was another stumbling block. Again – no guidance because no instructions. Even being a little tech savvy, I had some difficulty. I found that the software was not as user friendly as I would have expected. OK, I am still playing with the system and learning but once again, it sure would help having instructions.

They want you to pay every month.. $10/month that’s $120 a year.. They also want you to link your Amazon account. Make sure to read the fine print.. Blink wants your Amazon data.. I’ve spent over $2,000 on these cameras.. Now all of it is useless.. Short clips blurred images glitches all the time deleted clips reappear sometimes it doesn’t even record no live view saves, sensors don’t pick up anything audio goes out, it all turned to trash. They want to blame it on your wifi. 🙄 They are throttling controlling how well your cameras work.. I feel so betrayed and swindled. I’ve been recommending these cameras even set my parents up told friends now it’s all a waste because Blink wants to be shady.. VERY DISAPPOINTING DO NOT REWARD COMPANIES LIKE THIS WITH YOUR MONEY. 👎🤨UPDATE: 4/28/21 – 8 or so months in. I have purchased 17 of these cameras and 3 sync modules and planned on buying more also purchased many accessories. Different mounting brackets for the cameras and modules wifi extenders larger battery packs etc. They all worked great at first then slowly came the problems. I put up with the failed views the super short recordings that happened now n then the modules going offline repeatedly no its not my internet the glitches etc … Now something about a PLUS PLAN suddenly pops up on my app. You can no longer save live clips. 😡 One of the cool things was being able to watch something live then being able to save it. You cannot do that simple little thing anymore.The cloud storage wasn’t that big of a deal since you could pop in a thumbdrive to save recordings. Now they want to charge you for the ability to save live views onto your thumbdrive. It was cool and convenient the ability to view something live catch something happening which is the whole point of a camera then saving it. Now if you catch something happening live its useless because you can’t save it. 😡 The system has to be armed and you have to hope the sensors pick it up and even then it may not even reset. They ruined the playback on the app now. No thumbnails and if you want to delete you have to delete clips separately no select all option. This is NOT WORTH BUYING anymore. For the amount of money I spent I should be able to save a short live view. I could have purchased a nicer security system for the money I spent. I no longer recommend this system as they want to charge you a monthly fee for a simple feature a doorbell cam can do. At bare minimum they should not charge Prime Members a subscription fee. Very disappointing that they change the functionality so they can charge you for it. My original review and updates are below.👇😕This is pretty close to a must have they just need to make some tweaks. 🤙 Picture quality is pretty good. It has a nice dynamic range. The POV is pretty good. Its plenty wide and a little fisheye. For the most part pretty clear. 👍The audio is fairly decent but you get a lot of humming and hissing. The microphone where you can talk to someone is fairly decent. You’re talking about close distance about average distance of someone at your front door.The setup is pretty easy just install the app and follow the instructions. Let it update the firmware. One tip when you get to the cameras leave the back off because you will have to scan the QR code.So why not 5 stars since this is pretty cool? The back where you put the batteries screws on and off with a wonky tool they give you. It would be fine if it was a twist lock not an actual screw. The price is kinda steep. I needed 4 cameras. 4 sides to a house or building right? They don’t have a 4 camera bundle. 3 or jump to 5. I purchased another single camera because it was only $10 more with a sync module than a add on camera.Not much security for the camera itself. It just pops off. Anyone can steal it. The camera mount has a limited angle. Its basically made for a straight flat install. I bought separate swivel mounts so I can mount it to the underside of my roof on the side of my house and place the camera looking down the side of my house. They should upgrade the mount. You can always mount the camera higher to avoid theft but sometimes that’s limited.After awhile there’s inconsistencies short clip recordings failed views no restart recordings after the pause and the longest you can record is 30 seconds and it won’t fully record the full 30 secs. Audio cuts out or doesn’t record at all and lots of freezes. 😐This is a pretty good simple to set up and use camera system. The night vision and motion detection are pretty decent. They should have kept the free cloud storage but i prefer the separate thumbdrive storage. Less chances of hacking being all over the interweb. Using a thumbdrive is not a problem. Maybe they should include one. There’s a slight delay in the live shot. Hear something and you wanna click live view you wait a few seconds and by that time the action is gone. They need to make that faster. As for getting notifications instantly when the motion detection is triggered its not bad but there’s a delay there too. And it does not recognize or connect to my 5G only to 2.4G on my wifi. 😐 Like I said its pretty decent but could use some improvements and am sure they will continue to do so but for now for what I’m using it for as simple security and being able to monitor my house and yes I can be away and monitor my house from afar yeah definitely worth getting. 👍UPDATE: Its been a month and a half and the batteries are still good. I do notice not as much hissing and screeching noise. Don’t know if that means battery life is going down and the mic is less powered or what but everything still works pretty good. Picked up several of the mini cams as well on sale. Great for inside and the garage. Had one on the patio but it got a little moisture slime. Didn’t affect the camera though but I did move it in.Had one hick up. It said view failed or something like that once and I couldn’t get a live view. I just took a photo and it seemed to clear that up. I see a lot of people showing that in the reviews so thought that would help.I also see a lot of reviews posting pics of bad night vision. You need to reposition your camera. You either have something below it or above it too close to the lens. For example if you have it mounted under an awning and you get a dark picture or you get a foggy looking halo ring you need to bring the camera out further so there is not much covering the top or bottom. The sides are also affected but not as much.Move it around remember camera position is key for good night vision. Even though it’s made for the outdoors you don’t want it in direct sunlight where the unit will go passed the 110deg limit. That will kill battery performance and camera capabilities. Hope that helps some of you with those issues. I will update again on battery life. So far its near Thanksgiving and batteries are good. I arm it at night 100% of the time. During the day a little less. I’ve captured several delivery personnel a raccoon a couple of cats sun glare off my pool some dust looking particles that look like spirits flying away 😄 and of course myself when I forget to disarm 😃 and the battery indicator says OK. They really need a percentage indicator on that. I live view several times a day but only for a few seconds if there’s nothing going on.The cloud thing is not a big deal at all. Get a thumbdrive and you’re good to go. All your clips are saved on that instead of the cloud. I love the easy sharing too. I will text my friends with a short clip I can upload straight to my YouTube channel. Its pretty cool. One thing I would like to see is a shorter break between clips. You can miss a lot in 10 seconds. And a longer recording capability than 30sec especially with motion. I know that can eat battery life but they can improve there as well.🖖😉👍UPDATE 2: I’m getting more failed to connect to cloud indications and I’m not using the cloud I’m using a thumbdrive. I’m also getting more false recordings. Nothing is happening and it will record a clip. Also a live view will pop up in the recorded clip segment. 🤔 Its starting to be a little fidgety but not to the point it upsets me.UPDATE 3: One of the cameras needed a reset. Pop the batteries out then pop em back in. 🤔 It said failed view or not available something like that. Battery life is going on 3 months with moderate use. What’s moderate use? I arm every night and 3 – 5 times a day. Take photos 2 – 3 times and watch live view 4 – 5 times a day. Each live view is for one cycle before it times out or asks to continue. Sometimes I’ll watch live view for 3 – 4 times continued. Still haven’t needed to replace batteries yet. 👍Update 4: Colder weather is here and another camera needed a reset where you pop the batteries out wait 30secs and pop em back in. Battery still says ok and its going on 3 and a 1/2 months. It first gave me a failed to load warning here n there and that may be a sign you may need to do a reset.Update 5: The inconsistencies have increased greatly. The syn module continually goes offline requiring a wifi reboot. The batteries are still good and it’s been 6 months. There are more freezes and jumps in recordings.

    Will not detect the best wifi signal (REVIEW UPDATE)

    REVIEW UPDATEWe recently lost our internet connection due to updates our ISP had to make. What we didn’t know is that Blink cameras are solely dependent on an Internet connection (not just a wifi connection) even if you don’t have a subscription or just have the trial. None of the outdoor cameras will remain active when you lose Internet connectivity. My wrongful assumption was that ONLY your local area network was needed since it relies on a wifi signal. Nope. That is wrong. The Sync Modules will flash the green LED and no camera will work. Great job Blink/Amazon for putting customers at risk to thieves and other criminals.We have 4 of the outdoor cameras on two separate Sync2 Modules due to the distance from the main router. We have an extender (set as a repeater) which handles the furthest cameras. As I said I never considered these would go offline if the Internet connection went down. I figured if my LAN went down then it would make total sense the cameras would go offline, yet I was foolish in my thinking.Again this is shameful of Blink/Amazon to have this even as a feature. I get that you need an account to pay for the service, but why in the world would these be designed to FAIL if your Internet connection goes down?It is not only misleading to consumers to not EXPLICITLY state that these cameras will fail to operate without an Internet connection.This IS one of the WORST investments my family ever made in a product. Would have been better to purchase a CCTV camera system and just hardwired everything on the network. For what we’ve now paid for 4 cameras + the sales tax we could have gotten a 4 camera CCTV setup instead from a local box store.As I have said in my original review, the cameras do work, and will suffice. Keep in mind that an Internet connection is REQUIRED and not just your local area network connection. I had to lower my rating to just one star because nothing is lower than that on Amazon’s site. I’d give this camera system negative stars it it were possible just based on our experience over the past few months.Also I think I was far too generous with parts of my original review, but experience will change your mind when the experience becomes bad.I no will longer recommend ANY of the Blink cameras. Until they are no longer dependent on an Internet connection and will fully function on just your local networks wifi signal. I will be researching a true CCTV camera system to replace the Blink cameras. If I could get a refund I’d do it in a heartbeat, but that window has closed. The price of this education is high!———Original reviewRecently purchased the Blink Outdoor 2 Camera system, and it’s a very hit or miss system. I have several things to say about the security cameras and the Blink app that goes with it.The base:The friction fit mounting bases are not easy to snap into place. I had to use a long and think flat headed screw driver to aid in connecting it. Also I worried about crushing the sensor on the camera because of how much force it takes and where my hands are pressing on the camera itself (holding from the edges while mounting under a roof eave is moderately annoying). Once it is finally snapped to the base it moves freely and the camera stays in place.The Sync 2 ModuleThis is the brains of the system. Each module controls up to 10 cameras and utilizes your 2.4GHz Wifi connection. Now I mistakenly assumed that my 2 camera system didn’t include the Sync 2 Module (I didn’t notices a “what’s in the box” on Blinks Amazon page. So I ended up buying one which was a waste of money considering it’s included. The setup takes a while after you power it on you’ll need the app to discover the device. Initially the blue LED flashes and the green LED is steady. Once it is discovered then then both LEDs are steady.The app (Android)At first the app to control this camera system seems simple, but there are some annoyances I’ve discovered. The system will NOT discover the best WiFi connection on your network. I have an detached garage with the camera approximately 75 feet from the Sync 2 Module, and my router is close to 10 feet from the Sync 2 Module. So I picked up a WiFi extender and set it as a Repeater (firewall, DNS, DHCP etc. is controlled by my primary router) in order for the signal strength to be at a maximum. It is recommended that you use the existing WiFi names (SSIDs) on your network (for 2.4GHz only) and append _EXT so Blink can see it if using a Wifi extender. Also keep your password keys for your wifi extender the exact same that are on your main wifi router. Now in theory (and based on Blink’s own guidelines) the system should pick the best Wifi signal based on your setup. Well it doesn’t, and there is NO option in the Blink app for me to place my garage camera on the extender Wifi (again it’s on the same network as all my devices are) while keeping the door camera on the primary router (same network once again). This is not about changing networks, this is about discovering the extender on my main network (which I repeat Blink claims it will chose the best signal automatically). Yes I could add the second Sync 2 Module in the garage, but then I’d have to create a second system for the garage camera. Not entirely what you should have to do.Batteries: These cameras require the more expensive Lithium AAs you do get the batteries with the cameras (mine were Energizer Lithium AAs. The cameras are equipped with a USB B mini connection which you can use to connect to a powered USB source as to not run off batteries. In my case I picked up a motion detector LED flood light that offers a USB connection (this unit https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08F9CNPVW). I would remove the batteries from the cameras because I do not know if connected will it try to charge the batteries (these are NON chargeable lithium batteries) or it will it bypass the batteries? I would err on the side of caution and remove them.Local Storage (USB thumb drive) vs Blink SubscriptionsThis is an Amazon product and you’d think that the Blink camera systems would provide free service to Amazon Prime members. Nope. You are nickled and dimed on a per camera basis at $6 monthly, and it’s $100 annually (if I read it right) for one full system). Again why is this NOT part of Prime Membership?So to avoid saving to the cloud I bought a 256GB thumb drive to insert into the Sync 2 Module. What I have discovered is ONLY clips are saved locally. You are NOT able to save live recordings to the local storage. Really? Why? What’s the point of only having the clips (maxed at 60 seconds) on a local drive? To me this is a rip off and not mentioned anywhere in the product details.Yes you do get a “free” trial which unlocks all features. If you; however, cancel that trial early or let it expire without buying a subscription than certain features are locked. So again you pay a lot for the camera system and you are locked out of many features IF you don’t buy their subscription to the cloud. Talk about ripping folks off. Sure you can look at live feeds, but you can’t same them locally. You can take a snapshot from the cameras, but it will NOT take a photo every hour UNLESS you BUY a Blink subscription. Again this all goes back to Blink subscriptions. Tell me what’s the point of local storage if all you can save are clips?Loading issues with clips and thumbnails. So I’ve run into issues where loading a clip from the connected USB drive fails to load 95% of the time. Again these are short clips and should pull faster than from the Cloud. Nope. Thumbnails are hit or miss. These are generated when you press the camera icon on the home screen of the app. I call them snaps, but I’ve noticed if I am sitting near the Sync 2 Module it can still fail. Full wifi bars too and it still fails.Alexa:It is claimed by Blink that the newest generation of their cameras will work with Alexa. I used the app from my phone, but she can’t do anything with the cameras (even when trained to use them). In this case you may have to buy an Alexa enabled device (like Show). You technically don’t need one they are NOT required for these cameras, but the Alexa app alone on a smartphone is limited.Finally the recommend having minimum Internet speeds of 2Mb up and down for these cameras, but I believe that is ONLY if you are saving and storing to the cloud along with accessing from the cloud. Locally your access to the Blink cameras will depend on your network speeds along with wifi. The more stuff you have connected the slower it can be.Conclusion. The Blink Camera System isn’t terrible, and they are affordable. There are quirks as I mentioned and annoyances I have dealt with. These are not high end systems but on a tight budget you can get a good start.

    Excelente producto pero no es lo que imagine

    Empecemos por decir que lo que ofrece el producto es lo que vas a obtener ni mas ni menos.El producto es totalmente inalámbrico , lo que le da ventajas a la hora de una instalación limpia rápida y sin cables a simple vista.La conexión vía remota desde el celular a través de app es genial y muy fluida, cuando quieres ver los videos, aunque la conexión con mi dispositivo echo show 5 a sido casi imposible para el control de voz y para la visión en vivo tiene un delay bastante desagradable.La duración de las baterías es excelente tengo 5 camaras instaladas y una de ellas esta en la entrada del conjunto residencial, lo que hace que diariamente este por las 70 notificaciones de movimiento promedio con sus respectivos videos y aun después de un mes dice que esta sobre el 70% de vida.Las notificaciones son casi que en tiempo real max unos 10 a 15 seg después de la detección de movimiento llega la notificación a la app de celular, pero la conexión con alexa en mi caso a sido terrible y bastante deprimente porque me decidí por el producto justo por esa función y no he podido darle solución a los errores constantes entre alexa y el skill de blink.Ahora indaguemos mas en lo tecnico y por lo cual me ha decepcionado un poco el sistema.Este no es un sistema de vigilancia de video es mas en mi opinión un sistema de alarma de movimiento con capacidad de grabar el evento que activo la señal de alarma, aunque muchas veces ese video termina por frustrarte mas y a continuación explico el porqueEl sistema solo puede grabar entre 5 seg y 60 seg de grabación y aunque a veces 60seg es mucho tiempo, tiene una opción que permite parar el video antes si el movimiento se detiene, pero aca es donde comienza el problema en realidad, si activas esta opción, el sistema tiene una contra que la camara al desactivarse tarda 10 seg en volver a estar lista para registrar otra alerta lo cual hace que a veces pierdas información valiosa en cuanto a seguridad, si el movimiento para y luego se reactiva mientras la camara esta en el reposo de los 10seg, la camara no registrara nada en video y si el intruso sale fuera del rango de detección ya no podrás saber que paso luego, incluso si el movimiento llegar a seguir después de los 60seg max de grabación por alerta, la camara entraría en ese mismo tiempo de descanso de 10seg.Aunque las alertas en la app son muy rápidas este Tiempo se puede ver afectado si la opción de alertas rápidas no esta activada, ya que esta viene desactivada por defecto y si no se activa en cada camara puedes tener unas que te avisen y otras que las notificaciones llegue siempre tarde o después que ya se detecto el movimiento.En resumen si lo que quieres es un sistema de alerta de movimiento o cercanía este es el sistema que debería comprar pero si quieres un sistema de vigilancia de video busca otras opciones.Dentro de amazon hay varias opciones de camara ptz wifi con grabación continua, detección de movimiento, alarma sonora y audio doble vía que trabaja muy similar a este sistema y con una memoria de 32gb tienes hasta 4 dias de grabación continua y son mas económicos, aunque no son tan excelentes como este en visión de video en vivo o revisando archivos de alarma te serán mas útiles si lo que buscas es un sistema cctv, por lo menos en mi opinión.Postdata aun no se como funciona el sistema sin la membresía a Blink plus aun estoy dentro de la prueba gratis y aunque ya tengo todo el sistema para grabación local pronto volveré con mi opinión de como se porta el sistema una ves no tengas el soporte de Blink Plus.——————————————————–Let’s start by saying that what the product offers is what you are going to get, no more, no less.The product is completely wireless, giving you the advantage of a quick clean installation without wires at a glance.The remote connection from the cell phone through the app is great and very fluid, when you want to watch the videos, although the connection with my echo show 5 device has been almost impossible for voice control and for live viewing it has a delay quite unpleasant.The duration of the batteries is excellent, I have 5 cameras installed and one of them is at the entrance of the residential complex, which means that every day there are 70 average movement notifications with their respective videos and even after a month it says that it is over 70% life batteries.Notifications are almost in real time, max about 10 to 15 seconds after motion detection, the notification arrives on the mobile app, but the connection with alexa in my case has been terrible and quite depressing because I decided on the right product for that function and I have not been able to solve the constant errors between alexa and the blink skill.Now let’s dig deeper into the technical and for which the system has disappointed me a bit.This is not a video surveillance system, it is more in my opinion a motion alarm system with the ability to record the event that activated the alarm signal, although many times that video ends up frustrating you more and I will explain why below.The system can only record between 5sec and 60sec of recording and although sometimes 60sec is a long time, it has an option that allows you to stop the video earlier if the movement stops, but this is where the problem really starts, if you activate this option, the system has a counter that when the camera is deactivated, it takes 10 seconds to be ready again to record another alert, which sometimes means that you lose valuable information regarding security, if the movement stops and then reactivates while the camera is At rest for 10 seconds, the camera will not record anything on video and if the intruder goes out of the detection range, you will no longer be able to know what happened next, even if the movement continues after the maximum 60 seconds of recording by alert, the camera would enter that same rest time of 10sec.Although the alerts in the app are very fast, this Time can be affected if the quick alerts option is not activated, since it is deactivated by default and if it is not activated in each camera you can have some that notify you and others that Notifications always arrive late or after motion has already been detected.No me In short, if what you want is a movement or proximity alert system, this is the system you should buy, but if you want a video surveillance system, look for other options.Within amazon there are several wifi ptz camera options with continuous recording, motion detection, sound alarm and two-way audio and lights that works very similar to this system and with a 32gb memory you have up to 4 days of continuous recording and they are cheaper, although They are not as excellent as this one in viewing live video or reviewing alarm files. They will be more useful if you are looking for a cctv system, at least in my opinion. Postscript I still don’t know how the system works without Blink plus membership I’m still in the free trial and although I already have the entire system for local recording I’ll soon come back with my opinion on how the system behaves once you don’t have Blink support Plus.

    Has significant drawbacks

    Edit:  I have downgraded the number of stars from 4 to 3. There are significant problems with the Blink Camera system.  We have the 5-camera system plus the doorbell.  If you want the batteries to last a decent time, you must put your system on a schedule and have it disarmed for the majority of the day.  Blink says to only arm it when you are away, which is impractical.  They also say that you should make the recorded clip length as short as possible even though clip length can be set to 60 seconds. A big drawback is that when you set a schedule to disarm the system during the day, if you have a doorbell that announces through an Amazon Echo device, you will NOT get alerts from that device when someone rings the doorbell. You may still get a notification on your phone, but that requires that you always have your phone with you.  I consider this a very big downside to the entire system.  When setting a schedule on a multi-camera system with a doorbell, you should be able to remove certain devices (such as the doorbell) from the schedule.We purchased the 5-Camera system recently along with the doorbell wedge, a Sync 2 and different mounts.I had been searching for a security camera system for many months and had my eyes on a different brand that was twice as expensive. The area in which we live does not have much crime at all, but we still wanted a system just in case.  We also wanted it to be able to keep an eye on our home when away and see if any Black Bears were coming into our neighborhood as well as potential vandals.Setup:Setup of the Blink system is very easy but does involve quite a few steps.Download the Blink App and create an accountSearch for the Blink skill in Amazon Alexa and link to your Blink accountRemove the back from a camera and start to configure***Note***There is a QR code on the inside of the camera battery compartment that is very handy for setting up a cameraWaiting for the firmware to update when it finds your cameraInstalling a mountPlacing the camera on the mountChecking the view and making adjustments as necessary.Establishing activity zonesGoing to the Alexa app and indicating which Echo devices should announce a motion alert.There are a lot of steps involved, but it really is quite easy.  While the default sensitivity setting is 5 out of 10, I cranked everything up to 6 for our cameras.  That turned out to be a notch or two too much in our backyard as the shadow for one of our many cottonwood trees was setting off the camera due to wind. The mic on each speaker works very well.  The speakers?  Not so much. Overall, this is a very good system for the money. It is integrated with Amazon Echo devices which makes it extremely handy to have. My only real concern is with the fact that the system wants to alert you if the camera temp gets over 90* Fahrenheit.  Yes, you can change that threshold.  However, that temperature can be achieved very quickly.  It is 59* outside right now, but one of our cameras says it is 101* because it faces east.  There really is nowhere else to put a camera where it is not in direct sun and still get the views that I need.  What is a person to do if they live in an area that regularly sees temps over 100* in the summer?  Direct sun in those instances can raise the temperature to very high temps.  The cameras should have been designed to withstand direct sun better.

    Easy and reliable security camera system, still lacks vital features found in competitors.

    I’ve purchased a total of 4 Blink Outdoor + 3 Blink Mini cameras, plus a sync module and USB backup drive for the security system at my retail space. It’s honestly probably the best and easiest way to get a security system installed without wires at a small business. Yes I have used Ring, and Canary. I prefer Blink. Since I’ve seen this now at brick and mortar retail locations, in addition to Amazon, I figure a review might help you make an informed purchase (spoiler, I love it).This review really supports all of Blink’s camera products, as an ecosystem, though Amazon strangely would only let me review the standalone “Outdoor” camera. So you can infer details to the rest of Blink’s product lineup. You should know that Amazon purchased Blink in 2018, so I hope it gets some attention with new software features and hardware refresh.Pros:* Wireless. As long as you have reasonably good wifi, the cameras work. I use a mesh system to cover 6000+ sq ft of space, and all the cameras record and alert me.* Battery. The outdoor cameras run on 2 AA lithium batteries. I don’t know how, but they last WAY longer than comparable rechargeable batteries for competing camera brands* Price. Blink’s system is very price competitive. The mini cameras are downright cheap. The Outdoor cameras are competitive, considering how long the battery lasts, how small they are, how easy they are to install, and the superb reliability.* Footage. Blink paid plan is cheap and stores a month of* App. It’s simple and straightforward. Easy to view alert footage, and pull up recent footage. Wish it was easier to organize/review past footage… once you’re past a week it get tedious and hectic to find anything quickly and efficiently.* Communication: You can speak into your phone with the app open and have a 2-way conversation with any party present at individual cameras. I’ve used this feature to communicate with staff, and also warn maleficent actors to leave the premises before I notify authorities.* Sensitivity: You can customize a bunch of the toggles for camera recording, active area, sensitivity etc which is great. It’s not quite as intuitive as Ring or Canary which literally let you draw areas to avoid or record, but the toggles for the recording area as well as sensitivity triggers, recording length, quality, notification lights, etc are intuitive and great.Cons:* Multiple Locations: Currently Blink does not allow you to have multiple locations for your Blink system. This is a real bummer because I would easily buy this same system for my home, office, and to help keep an eye on my elderly parents at their house. Unfortunately you can’t. To do this you have to have a separate Blink account for each location, and manually log out and then log in to the location you want to pay attention to. That defeats the purpose of a security system, if you can’t receive timely notifications from all of your security cameras. If you have to manually review footage, it’s too late to help.* User Access: Another big annoyance is you can’t selectively invite users to access your account with different access permissions. So currently I am the only person reviewing my Blink account. It would be a big help to delegate managers and other authorized administrators, especially in a multi-location environment where you want your family to have access to home security, your staff access to office security, but don’t want those groups to see the other cameras. I hope Blink implements robust user invitations and sharing access once Multiple Locations is supported.* Geo-Fencing: There is no geolocated ability to arm, disarm, or set location-based trigger schedules for Blink. It’s either time, or manual arming or disarming. I also use a Canary system, and one of the big perks is the ability to have the system automatically switch gears if you or particular people come and go from a location. Wish I could do that for Blink, to have it automatically arm itself with the most sensitive settings when my staff leaves the location for the night.* Auto-Delete: Once your USB drive is full, expect daily notifications that “local storage is full”. It asks you to delete footage to make room for more, which is pointless, because at the end of each day it will automatically do this (since the USB drive automatically clears old footage as needed, but still sends the annoying notification about storage being full).Other:* Neighbors App: Integrates with a community, I don’t use this much, but great feature to have especially for neighborhood safety.* Amazon: You purchase your premium subscription through Amazon, and link your Amazon account to your Blink account.* Alexa Integration: I use a series of Alexa devices with screens throughout the retail space to quickly look at cameras if I get an alert with my phone. Take a second to wake each camera (especially battery-operated Outdoor cams), and is very useful for safety and suspicious activity.* Outdoor Mount: The outdoor cameras can be easily “popped” off their mount, if a maleficent person knows what’s up and decides to take a camera.* Battery Life: The battery life of Blink Outdoor with 2 AA Lithium is good enough to not be a con. However the battery life is significantly less than “2 years” advertised. So far I’ve had to change the batteries on all four of my Outdoor cameras about every 3-4 months. Unfortunately there’s no alert or indicator to tell you if the battery is about to die. It’s either “OK” or the camera goes offline (with a slow blinking red light on the physical device).VERDICT:Blink is a great system, I totally recommend it as long as you only have one location and you are the sole user. The price is great, the performance is reliable with quality coverage, and it’s comparable, if not better than competitors.If you need security systems at multiple residences or other locations, want to automate the system arming/triggers based on your geo-location, and need to invite and grant specific access to different people (friends vs staff) you should definitely avoid Blink and look to Canary or Ring for a security solution.If the three major cons were address I would easily increase my rating from 3 to 5 stars. I hope Blink (and Amazon) is listening!

    Finicky setup to get through… but they work well!

    The cameras came quickly and I was excited to set them up and see what they do. Much to my dismay it was a pain in the ass! If you are Mac based as I am, you should know that if you’ve renamed your router and have a password connected to that new name, the Blink Sync Module will not see your new router name or password! At least this is what happened to me. It did not see it at all! When you try to input the router name manually it will eventually kick it back as “wrong router name or password”! After resetting my phone multiple times and the router for over an hour, I was ready to put them back in the box and ship them back! I was over it! I called customer support and explained my issue and all I got was “if your router is not 2.4 GHz they won’t work. I had no idea what GHz my router was and customer service was no help either on where to find that info. Ultimately I grabbed the router and looked at the bottom, it was 2.4 GHz so that didn’t solve my issue.SOLUTION: You have to use the name on the bottom of your router to locate your router in the Blink system! You also have to input the password that’s on the bottom of the router! Not whatever you renamed your router! That info should be front and center with their setup links and videos. Also tell your customer support people as well!Otherwise the camera’s work well for the money. They are a little slow to connect via your phone or tablet but… you get what you pay for. So far I’m happy with the system performance…just not with the setup!

    Overall Great for the Price

    Let’s start with the Pros:The simplicity of setting these cameras up with the sync module 2 is UNBELIVABLE. It is quite literally as simple as plugging in the sync module, downloading the blink app and connecting the module to wifi, then powering up the outdoor cameras and adding them inside the blink app and BOOM. You are ready to mount them. The mounting bracket that comes with the cameras is more than sufficient in my opinion. Although you will want to be gentle with them because they are plastic and could easily snap.The resolution during the day is more than sufficient as well. They tout a 1080p resolution, although I don’t think that is the case, unless maybe you update the Quality to it’s “best” choice. It comes with standard with the medium option being selected to lower the upload speed needed to update to your sync module. Overall video quality and motion detection for the price point is incredible. I have used the Ring doorbell for the last 2 years and I will not hesitate to share that the motion detection on the Blink in my opinion is quicker, and smoother to view. Just my opinion though.The cons (and its a fairly short list imo so far):The video quality at night is COMPLETE GARBAGE. Do not anticipate being able to distinguish anything that shows up on your night feed other than knowing if it is a car, person, or animal of some kind. I was wearing an under armour sweatshirt with the HUGE X on the front and could barely tell on the camera feed that I was wearing an under armour sweatshirt. Im not sure why the Night vision is so bad, but it won’t do much for you other than show you that a person was there if someone were to be sneaking around you property. Maybe its just not that good at distance? Not sure. Either way, night vision is awful in my opinion.Overall:Incredible value for the price. I literally set up a whole security system (which includes 2 outside cams and a sync module 2) for less than $150. That is unheard of. And for the quality of the camera you get (that is during the day) and the ease of setup, the affordable price point for subscription ($10 per month after the first 30 days), all of that considered, I would HIGHLY suggest this security system! Well done Amazon. Please just improve the Night vision in the next generation :))

    Getting your sync module to link to all outdoor cameras.

    I now have 5 mini cameras and 2 outdoor cameras. I’m impressed with all the features and reliability of the video and motion detection on both style units. The main feature of the outdoor camera is that, a sync module is required to have it function. This created a problem, because the wifi signal might be strong to all your outdoor cameras, however the sync module might be strong to most but not all. This means although your wifi is strong your weak sync link will stillCreate functionality issues. The sync module has to be perfect distances to each outdoor camera , this is hard to accomplish with walls and interferences along the route. Therefore the only way to compensate is to purchase another sync module and separate the systems. On the other hand if you can place an indoor mini cam at a window and turn off theNight vision ( infra red) using outdoor lighting or porch light you get greatVideo night or day . It’s cost effective and sync module is not needed, avoiding the weak link. Just a strong wifi signal creates the systems usability and a wifi extender can help that. You can also place the mini cam under a roofed enclosure . I live in florida, I had no problems with torrential down pours at night with getting great video. Remember the trick is to turn off the night vision, set video to best quality and your good to go. Save half the cost on outdoor camera.

    Horrible Customer Service Via email- just call them to get a much better experience

    I have 4 indoor, 2 outdoor, and the outdoor floodlight cameras and 2 sync modules. When I got everything set up I continually had problems with 1 outdoor camera. I thought maybe it’s not getting enough wifi so I bought a wifi extender. It still said it had a bad connection to the sync module and kept failing so I contacted support. Basically all they do is tell you to reboot it, your modem, and your router. If that fails they will tell you to plug in your “wireless” camera to an external power source. Finally they told me just move the camera closer to the sync module. I had it literally touching the module and the connection was still bad. Never once did they offer to replace the defective device. This could have been an easy win by just replacing the device after a few basic troubleshooting steps.I will say all of my other devices work flawlessly. I have one outdoor camera incredibly far from my house, router, and sync module to monitor my chickens and it works flawlessly. I’m confident the problem camera is just defective and not reflective of all of their products. I hope they will replace the dang thing.Edit: after calling and speaking to tech support they’ve made the situation right. I have a new camera on the way to replace my camera that wasn’t working.

    Love them

    Takes good pictures and video for the money. Can talk to people through them. Only dumb thing is after 30 days you HAVE to buy a plan or else there’s no point in these. It’s like $99/yr for unlimited devices, not terrible but just wasn’t aware until I had to. Sync module is inside my house, and cameras are about 30-40 feet away outside and it’s on the last bar of connectivity. Batteries (AA) have been holding up for several months so I’m happy with that.

    Great outdoor camera system

    We purchased our first Blink Home Security Camera July of 2018. We were going out of the country and wanted to make sure our 18 year old son closed the garage door and locked the house. It did the job and we felt better knowing while on the other side of the world we could monitor our home.The following Summer we were so happy with our indoor system, we decided to purchase 2 outdoor cameras with the 2 way audio, and were so happy with the video and audio quality, we bought another add on outdoor camera, the next month.A year later we found the mini indoor cameras.     REALLY LACKING FOR THE BRAND NAME AND PRICE

    Long review, so read #6 if using them as intended:Ok, I know these were designed for outdoor, but had much better reviews than the indoor cams and we were looking to add inside cameras for monitoring our 4 preteens for short periods if we needed to run errands close by or to be able to review footage when arguments break out on the opposite end of the house.#1 we ordered a bundle with the Amazon Alexa monitor and 5 cameras to try. It was on back order for a while and the 5 camera kit showed in stock so we went ahead and ordered our 2nd set just to get some cameras in the house faster (missing out on the bundle where we’d have gotten 2 monitor for an extra $10 per kit)… both sets arrived at the same time so I’m pretty burnt that I didn’t get a second monitor as originally planned.#2 The battery life on these SUCK and they only recommend single use lithium batteries. Being wireless makes for a quick install, but these things will eat you alive in batteries. We’ve been running 10 cameras, 9 inside the house and 1 at our front door, for almost a full month and I’ve replaced batteries twice already in our busiest areas like the living room and kids hallways and even once already at our front door. Settings with sensitivity and recording length I know play a big part, but our front door isn’t hardly busy as we mainly use our rear door so I’d at least expected it to last a decent amount of time. We only have a couple in reasonably traveled areas that have lasted this long, but that’s only bc I’ve got the sensitivity turned all the way down and recording length limited to a very short 5 seconds… so they are rarely triggered and the recordings are pretty much useless (mainly only use them for live viewing/audio if one of the main cameras is dead).#3 the mounts are nice and sturdy, but nearly impossible to get the cameras to snap onto… like I can’t snap them to the mount without being able to reach behind the wall it’s mounted on with one arm and snap the camera onto the mount with full strength of pressing my arms towards each other. It’s ridiculous enough that this issue alone has motivated me to write this review… especially when I have to keep pulling them down and putting them back up every time I have to replace the batteries. Maybe mine are just super tight fitting, but I was surprised this wasn’t a common complaint. There’s no way I’d see my wife snapping these on herself.#4 we are paying monthly for the full features of these cameras, not a big deal, but the maximum limit of only 1min recordings really kills our purpose for the cameras. I know our situation is unique, but I do know other parents that have bought these solely for troubled kids and to collect evidence of their behavior and 1min doesn’t capture full events of arguing or emotional outburst if needed. The only option to record these things in their entirety is if you live stream the event, being asked if you want to continue watching about every 15-30seconds, and then manually save the recording. Not what I’d expect after spending $500 on two camera kits and then having to pay $10/month.#5 the app is really lacking. You can’t live view all cams at once on a main page like if you were really viewing live surveillance to see where everyone is in your house while away. You can only select a camera blindly for it to reveal what’s going on… if it’ll load and not give you a busy message. It lags a lot to get a camera started, so like our front door cam is pointless bc by the time you get the app open and get the camera to load your guest or package thief has already had time to knock and probably leave. It’ll record it for you, but not great for live viewing at a quick glance.#6 and this one will probably be the most in line with what these outdoor cams were designed for, the sensitivity range for being triggered sucks for outdoor. In an effort to try these as they were intended, I did mount one above our front door aimed at our driveway entrance. Our driveway meets the road about 40’ away from our front door. I have several collectible cars parked in plain sight and wanted to have a camera outside just in case. I’ve adjusted the sensitivity to the most sensitive setting and vehicles pulling into our driveway don’t trigger it. Cars passing by on the street at the same distance don’t trigger it. It doesn’t get triggered until someone is about 15’ away. We have Amazon packages dropped off frequently and the only time I’ve caught it on a recording was by chance that a cat had walked by our front door at the same time and I could see the giant Amazon truck in the background pull all the way up our driveway and out of frame before stopping… didn’t even see the truck leave bc the recording was only set to record 30 seconds at a time, but the fact that that big of a truck could come back into frame and leave our residence within maybe 30’ of our cam without being caught on a recording was alarming.Since I’ve already invested so much into these, I may go ahead and spend a little more to add charging cords to our main cameras, but for now I do have a couple extra cameras set aside to place in common areas when others die just to keep an eye on the kids if we need to run an errand. I don’t recommend these really for a variety reasons. They’d probably work best in a house for someone who lives alone and works during the day, they just aren’t a good fit for a house of 7 with a stay at home wife. Our house is too busy for these to work like we’d hoped. And the one we are using as intended doesn’t do it’s job that well either.

    Gone downhill

    I’ve had these cameras for a little over a year now. When I first got them, I loved them. They were very reliable and a great product for the cost. Over the past 6 months or so, the cameras have gone completely downhill. They are so laggy that they are essentially useless. My internet provides all necessary standards for these cameras to function properly, however, Blink customer service insists on it being my internet. They deflect and tell me to reach out to them. It’s a shame. I’ll be making the switch to another camera system!Update 7/5/23:In my case, the Blink camera performance suffers when you have a dual band, simultaneous router. I updated my router about 6 months ago to where there was only one SSID and devices would automatically connect to a 2.4 or 5 ghz network. I set up my old router, with two separate SSID’s, and manually connected my sync module to the 2.4 GHz network. It seems to have solved my issue! Blink customer service was quick to reach out and resolve the issue, however, the issue was not on their end; it was the equipment that I was using.I am updating my review to 4 stars. I am docking a star due to the fact that most camera systems would be smart enough to function on a dual band, simultaneous router.

    good video quality, slow to start recording

    3 cameras located on driveway, inside garage and in a breezeway between house and garage. breezeway location can sometimes miss all motion, it is slow to wakeup to motion, get wifi running and transmit video to base unit. they say this helps with battery life, its been running for 2 weeks, has over 1000 stored videos in usb. some vids show no motion, maybe a bird flow by to wake it up .I had an app last year called Alfred that used old cell phones as cameras, vids showed motion at the start, but cameras have a lot more processor , memory and power than these cameras and not suitable for outside mountings

    Good entry level cameras

    Wait for these to go on sale, as the price differs substantially. These are decent entry level cameras. The picture is just fine and customer support is actually helpful, as I had an issue with one of my cameras and needed a replacement. Five second delay to seeing live feed is obnoxious, but not the end of the world. Battery powered for up to two years is very nice as I didn’t have to worry about hardwiring. Overall, good value for what you pay.

    These cameras are great until one fails

    I originally bought a two camera outdoor blink system, and then decided to add more cameras so I bought this five camera system. When I realized that the lithium batteries didn’t last more than 6 months, I had these all wired to conserve battery. It worked! No matter how often they’re triggered, they had power. After about two years, one of my cameras kept showing low battery. I checked the wire and changed the batteries and the camera would only last 24 to 48 hours before it showed low battery again. I just had to order a $90 replacement camera, which I don’t expect to have an issue with. A little disappointed that one of the 5 cameras did not even last two years. I still like these cameras, but I think Blink should refund me for the faulty camera.

    I Am From The Future To Warn You Of The Worst Purchase You Will Ever Make!

    Stop! Do not press Add To Cart! I am from the future and am trapped in a time loop known as “the lowest threshold of mediocrity” loop and I have come to warn you – do not buy Blink!I have had these for about a year. I also have the doorbell. I wrote a review on the doorbell, giving it a little benefit of the doubt because I didn’t have the best wi-fi service and felt maybe that was responsible for the awful performance. But, I went from T-Mobile to the Comcast high speed internet, and the performance is still awful.Here is what you can expect.You will buy all of these items, and then, you’ll buy the extra device you need to capture the feeds onto a flash drive, to try and opt out of their subscription services.You will painstakingly mount all of these cameras all over your premises, and maybe the doorbell on your door.You will soon realize that sending security cam clips to a flash drive and then taking the flash drive to a PC is not practical in any way, and not wanting to climb up ladders and trees to send all this junk back, you will succumb to the subscription model.At first, you will think it is kinda cool – positioning everything, readying your home for a new level of security.And when the first clips of a squirrel or cat roll in, you will show the kids, and they will be wowed.But then someone will ring your doorbell. And when you go to see on your phone who it is, the software will ‘lock up” because it was trying to ‘record’. But then, you will see nothing was recorded, because you messed up the recording when trying to view who was at the door. Then you will go to the side cam to see who is there, but that cam will be locked up too, and for a while. So you’ll throw some pants on and rush desperately to the door to see who is there, but, they’re long gone. And then you will go back to the cam and try to see the footage, but, nothing has been recorded except a much delayed blank video you prompted from the side camera, 30 seconds after the person had gone.So then you will adjust your expectations, and try not to use the camera as a doorbell view, and you will just go downstairs when you hear the bell. And then you will realize, there is no bell when you are on the phone, and, you missed someone else visiting.Then you’ll get 500 videos of rain drops the first time it rains.And in the midst of all the rain videos, you will see a shady meth head in a back pack who has had to have climbed your fence in your back yard, emerging from the rear of your house. But when you go to see a video from the camera on that fence that would have actually captured him up close, you will see no videos of him, just random clips of rain or maybe if you are lucky a stray cat.Then one night, you’ll hear something that might be a gunshot or a firework right in front of your home. You will go to your phone nervously and try to see, but the camera freezes and can’t load, and then is locked up for a good 3 to 5 minutes. So, you will never know who or what that was.Over the first year or two, you’ll have hit or miss footage, much of it recorded *after* whatever prompted the camera has left, much of it less than a second of footage that has glitched out, that is like a literal “blink” (perhaps hence the name?) and a whole lot of bugs, birds, cats, shadows, rain and clouds, and the mailman.It works just well enough for you to not want to throw out the $300 you spent and climb ladders and trees to replace it with something better, but not well enough to ever feel like you have a reliable system or security and peace of mind whatsoever.It will nag at you, year after year. If you see the autorenewal fee, you will feel like Charlie Brown going for the Lucy football, and you will decide, “Sigh, I guess I will hold off another year before replacing it”. You will start to leave signs up on your door “do not use the camera doorbell – it never works. Please knock or call or use the original doorbell on the house.”And finally, you will be mad enough to log into Amazon and say, “You know what, I am going to try to at least help someone else from being caught in the eternal mediocrity loop I’ve found myself with this poor excuse for a camera system.”So, if you’ve read all this, and then you see some positive reviews. Know this. I am from the future and I have come to stop you from making one of the worst purchases you will ever make in your life. Everyone else raving about this are probably employees of Blink or reviewers who are paid good money to write mediocre copy about a very bad product.I cannot recommend another brand, because I am till trapped here in the mediocrity loop.But, I can recommend “not Blink”.Maybe next year I will make the change. Maybe next year. For now, it’s as much cats and raindrops and the mailman footage as my phone can handle.

    We have 1st generation w/cloud service – 2-cameras & 3rd gen that can be with or w/out subscription requiring a second sync module -3 cameras. We chose no subscription.The 3rd generation set did not want to work after the 30 day trial period. Followed all the directions that Blink supplied, still no go. 1st gen cameras worked w/out fail.Well, it appears that my wifi signal was poor. ..spent 4-months trying to troubleshoot/ diagnose and get these cameras to work without a subscription/USB storage. ….almost gave up until my streaming Netflix developed issues. Turned out my wifi router / gateway cable modem was crappy.Once we replaced the cable modem / gateway, the cameras came to life & streaming issues disappeared…. I have read other reviews that claim differently. Regardless, it worked for me 34 days straight… made no other changes and since the updated cable modem/wifi, the cameras work reliably like the sunrise. …will update if anything changes.

    Highly recommend

    Love our cameras. We bought two and bought another one about two weeks later for another area of our home. Great quality. Nice being able to check in on our home when we are gone also the alerts are great; helps in letting me know when the kids are in from school.

    Bang for buck

    I used this on my backyard to monitor Raccon that suddenly got inside the crawl space. First off it too me quite a while to figure out animal activitysince raccoons are smart. After setting up this camera, it did capture videos of racoon movement. The motion detection was kind of sloppy since the footage i got just captured raccoon right in front of the camera even when i had a good angle of the space being monitored and did not even capture which side it came from so i am giving this 4 stars to it.

    Whether you’re going on a trip or want to protect your house from porch pirates or ensure your home is safeguarded, these cameras work wonders. Although a little expensive, protecting your house from various things is worth the investment. I highly recommend this product and its affordable subscription.

    Had better experience with Ring, but Blink team reached out and helped

    If I use the motion detection alerts and videos, the battery drains in about 2 months, not 2 years as promised. My package came with 3 cameras, one got water inside and stopped working. The other two, I just use them to take an eventual picture manually; I don’t let them to auto take video when there is motion; it drains the battery. It pretty much did not satisfy the use case. It is a nice toy for eventual picture / short video, but you can’t base your security system on this. I’ll go back to my Ring cameras.—UPDATE: Ring team contacted me and sent a replacement of the camera. It is working great, no issues so far. I am keeping the system disarmed until I have time to tune how sensitive it should be to not drain the battery. Though, I tried a rechargeable battery and it worked well, so maybe that’s the solution for me.

    Large gaps in recording BY DESIGN

    I also purchased a 5 pack of these cameras (six in total, plus the video doorbell, plus the power cords) but I cannot review that purchase as Amazon says it is currently restricting reviews.Got all 6 cameras installed as well as the video doorbell and signed up for the annual subscription plan ($100/year). These cameras will not continuously record and must be motion activated. The issue is that the maximum record time is 60 seconds and the minimum retrigger time is 10 seconds. This means during an event (someone is breaking into your house, stealing your car, shaving your dog, etc) there’s a 10 second gap every minute.I called Blink tech support thinking maybe I had an extra bowl of stupid for breakfast and was missing a setting but they confirmed it was, in fact, by design.I also purchased 6 of the extra long power cords and spent a whole day crawling through my attic installing these. I’m on the fence about taking them all down and returning them; if I were running them on battery they’d already be back in the box.Aside from the 10 second mystery gaps where aliens could abduct your kids or Bigfoot could mess with your stuff, these cameras work great. Setup was easy and video quality is pretty decent. If they could just issue a firmware update or something removing the 10 second gap (or letting you record longer than 60 seconds) these cameras would easily be a 5 star.I originally rated them a 2 but after considering everything have upgraded them to a 3.

    Thought I would Be More Impressed…!!!! I am Not…!!

    Not the happiest with this camera. To many Issues. I am in San Diego, CA. and I have Cox Cable Panoramic Wi-fi with 500GBS. Fast Wi-Fi. I first bought the 1 pack for $ 99.00, and was not impressed. I then saw the 2 pack for $ 103.00 ????? Thought that was strange, so I returned the 1 and got the 2 pack. Was easy to get on the blink app. Same issues as the first camera. It would catch motion detection probably 75% of the time, but not all. Try to get live view on the app was a pain in the ***. Always saying “Live View Failed”. When live view did show on the app, you have to hit continue like every 10 seconds to keep it going. Pain. You do not get the “Extended live View” with this camera. Getting live view on my Echo Show 8 was also a pain. “Alexa, show me the front door”. Ok, said Alexa. then waiting on “Blink” then nothing. 50% of the time it would work on Alexa. When it did come up on Alexa, it at least would last longer then the live view on the app, which does not make any sense. It also would be nice to see the motion clips on the Echo Show 8 also. My camera is right outside my front door. Maybe 25 ft from my Wi-Fi. My module is 2ft from my Wi-Fi. I have reset everything twice. No Bueno. I think these cameras will be going back to Amazon real soon. Not sure Ring is any better according to the reviews. Sad………UPDATE: After researching more info on the cameras, I moved the Blink Module closer to the camera, and now it seems to be connecting better the first time on live view. I also connected the camera to my porch light using an adapter so now I have no battery concerns. I went from 3 to 4 stars and will perform a “wait and see” test.

    Update on Camera Issues

    Pros: 1. Quality HD picture2. Easy to set up3. Can arm/disarm camera to save on battery life, so if you’re working in the yard, bringing in groceries etc… you’re not constantly receiving notifications and using the battery life.4. Your videos can be stored in the Cloud (for a nominal fee) or you can insert a USB into the sync module for local storage. If someone is brazen enough to steal the whole camera, you still have access to the video.5. You can adjust the sensitivity level, so after you install the camera, you can reduce the level if you’re getting too many notifications from trees, animals etc..setting off the alarm.6. It is easy to adjust the camera (after you’ve installed it) if you want to change the angle for a better view.Cons: Connectivity (update) This issue has resolved itself. For the last 4 days, I have had no issues receiving notifications or viewing videos. If you experience first day hiccups, hang in there.2. The only way to share access to your live videos is by giving your username & password to a person. The individual then has access to change your email address, password, and delete videos. Technically, they can lock you out of your own security system. Good luck with that if you have teenagers. While you want them to see what’s going on outside if they’re home alone, you don’t want them deleting videos of friends who might visit the house when you’re not home. Deal breaker.3. This one is not a deal breaker. The camera is small, so if you’re looking to deter criminals who are opportunist, they might not even notice the camera is there. Sometimes just the visual presence of a camera will deter individuals.I cannot speak to the longevity of the battery life, which was one of the selling points for me. I’ll update later if I encounter other issues.

    MY BAD! Read the edit at the end. I finally figured out what I was doing wrong with the new camera.

    I bought a bunch of these years ago. Cloud storage used to be free but not anymore. Blink was nice enough to not charge us old-timers and grandfathered us in. They don’t have much range but they were sturdy, had good night vision and sensitivity, and the quality control was great. Not one defective one in the bunch. One of them finally did fail (after about three years so I can’t complain about it. ) So I replaced it when they went on sale for Black Friday. This one had no night vision at all so I returned it right away. They would only refund me and not replace it… so since the sale was over I had to pay more for another one because they sent me a defective one in the first place. So okay, not fair but I went ahead and paid more to replace it. This one works but the night vision is far inferior to the old ones. I’m beginning to think it won’t last like they are doing either. Oh well. If it doesn’t last then I will assume they are cutting costs and the quality control is going downhill. this will be my last one and I will have to install something else.Edit: The second one connected well and DID show an image both in good light and bad. BUT the image was vastly inferior to the old cameras. This one started out well but after a few days only showed black and white in the daytime and a very fuzzy image at night so I sent it back. The process for sending these back is time consuming. They make you watch a video first. Which I did although I have set these cameras up for years and didn’t need to. Then they would not let me exchange this camera for another one. Which is fine. I really didn’t want to try again anyway.They have almost certainly gone down in quality and after two tries I doubt I can get one that works as well as the old ones did. I will continue to use the old cameras until they wear out though. They are pretty good and since I got them so long ago the cloud service is free.EDITIt occurred to me that maybe the new camera wasn’t working as well as the old ones did was because I was trying to use it with the old generation 2 module. I decided to try one more time and this time I got a generation 3 module to pair it with. DUH. Problem solved! The cameras work great now and they are still grandfathered in. Thanks Blink!
