    Really nice cover and keyboard

Works really well with tablet/computer. Premium feel and backlit keys are my favorite points. Touchpad inputs have never been my favorite by any brand but it works well, especially in a pinch when I don’t have my mouse with me.

    great keyboard

these keyboards are durable, responsive and stylish. this is my second one and my first one lasted 4 years of hard use. I still have that one, but I wanted a red keyboard to go with my new Surface for some reason :).

Item arrived in great condition, seemingly brand new

I ordered this item from Amazon Warehouse and the product arrived still sealed in the package, almost looking brand new. There’s a little bit of a learning curve to it as it is a smaller keyboard, but so far it feels great.

    Great piece off hardware! But….

This is a great cover as usual. Microsoft makes fantastic stuff and we all know that but we also know that you should not have to pay for these separately. It is stupid that you have to buy but I guess Microsoft will keep going and not care cause we are still buying them. The color is great though, really well made, keys are smaller then normal but you will get used to it and adjust your typing in no time at all.

The Microsoft Surface Go 1 or 2 companion you must have. Too bad ther’es no Fingerprint ID

If you already have a Surface Go 1 or 2 or considering buying one, then consider this Type Cover keyboard, because it will look lonely without it. 😉 It’s just too bad that the Surface Go Type Cover Keyboards don’t come with the Fingerprint ID that exists in the newer Surface Pro Type Cover Keyboards. The keyboard is overall great. The material, the spacing of the keys, their travel and the trackpad. Adding to that the backlit light, the magnets patent and the textured feel and it makes a great companion for the Surface Go.I picked the black version which is slightly cheaper than the other colors, but the price wasn’t the factor of my decision. The factor for me was the material; the black one is more of a rubbery feel where you lay your hands, which is less difficult to clean. While the other colors have the Alcantara luxury material which is more challenging to clean. But I think that the back is the Alcantra luxury material because it’s different from the top, but I’m not certain. Picking the black version also led me to pick the black Surface Pen and Mouse over the other colors, and I must say that looking on them all together is very satisfying. If you’re in doubts regarding the colors, maybe the picture of the entire set I added to this review will help you to decide. :)Above the pros above, below are a few matters I find as cons:- No Fingerprint ID.- There is no Right-CTRL key, only left one.- There is no right-click key, which I find very useful if you’re navigating only with the keyboard.- There is no fingerprint feature.- You can’t use this keyboard when it’s disconnected from the Surface.- The FN-Lock to make the F1 through F12 keys be the default than their alternative behaviors is a little tricky to activate; you have to press and hold the FN key for a half second to a second until its led turns on. The second problem on this topic is that the PrtScn, Home, End, PgUp, PgDn keys are the alternate behaviors of the F8 through F12 keys. And to use then while the FN-Lock is activated you need to also hold the FN key. But it could be nitpicking. I’m satisfying with it nevertheless.

I was really enchanted, at the begging at least

The product it’s really nice, it’s well-made and feels premium, the problem is when we talk about durability. After just some days of usage some weird usage marks specially around the edge of the keyboard started to appear, something that would be just normal when we talk about a long period using the product, but considering that it happened right after a few days with the product, and specially when I was delicate using it; I think that durability should improve.

    GO get one…

Microsoft hit it out of the park with the Surface tablets and accessories. Oh yeah, they are not perfect. However, they are as good as anything out there, if not better. Overall, with the accessories considered, including the Surface Go keyboard, pen and mouse, I would rate the Surface Go and Surface Pro the best tablets available. However, I would never recommend the 4 Gb RAM versions. But how about the keyboard? Well, I ordered Ice Blue. The color was a tad darker than I thought it would be and it is darker than the pen and mouse, however, that is the only complaint. This is my second Surface Go keyboard. Call me crazy but I like to accessorize and change things up a bit now and again. The device works as expected. Click it in place and it works. The keys are comfortable. To give you an idea of hand size, I wear L/XL women’s gloves or M men’s gloves. Plus, I type about 70 wpm. Do not have any issues with the keyboard or buttons. Microsoft really did well with the design, given how small the keyboard is.I have the ipad with the keyboard and it is a nightmare compared to using the Surface Go keyboard. Also have the Samsung Tab S6 tablet and keyboard. The Microsoft wins hands down. Plus you get to use the MS OS.The touchpad is responsive as well. I use the Go for business related functions. The keyboard works just like on my PC.I can wholly and fully recommend the Surface Go alcantara keyboard! GO for it.

    Microsoft support problem

Think twice before you buy this product. Mine worked for several months and then failed. Microsoft agreed that the product was in warranty and would be replaced, but that I had to give them its serial number. Since the serial number was illegible, they refused to honor their warranty. At the very least they could have asked me to return the defective keyboard so they could see the illegible serial number before replacing the product.

Keyboard works great, but touchpad is way too big and causes issues

I liked this cover/keyboard at first, but the touchpad is way too big and sensitive which often causes the cursor to move or execute unwanted functions when typing. The natural position of your thumbs over the touchpad will promote erroneous or unwanted cursor movement etc unless you are careful.I would have given this a much higher rating except for the touchpad issue. You can of course try your best never touch or rest your hands on it, but that is not easy to do and seems a bit uncomfortable. There are good things to say about this. It is powered by the connection so no batteries required. The backlighting is very nice and makes typing easier in dim settings. The keys have a nice feel to them. The connection to the Surface Go is very easy just get it close to the position and the magnets do the rest.

High, quality, works as expected, but a bit cramped

I’m a fan of Surface products in general. Everything I’ve used is extremely high quality and looks and functions perfectly (except for a 1st generation SurfaceBook that has plenty of bugs even today). This keyboard fits perfectly, looks nice, and the even trackpad is pretty good. And it’s relatively sturdy and only flexes a little bit when typing. My only complaint is that the keyboard itself is a bit cramped and I hit buttons that I didn’t intend because I have to force my fingers a bit to adapt to the smaller than normal layout. If you type on it all the time, then you should get used to it no problem, but I jump around between a regular sized keyboard and this and I haven’t quite mastered it yet.

Paint started peeling off the keys after about 2 months.

After about 6 weeks the paint started to peel of the keys. The A key is unrecognizable, and I replaced the E key with a black key from my old type cover. You see the A, E and C keys but the “i”, key and the L key are not pictured but are peeling as well. Conveniently started peeling after the return date. Make sure you check the retail outlet as a lot of products are knockoffs not under Microsoft’s quality control. One other point the black key you see was from a Microsoft store, it was my old keyboard but didn’t start peeling until 3-4 years after I bought it. MSFT has their own quality control issues, but obviously they last a bit longer than the knockoffs.

Don’t be a CHEAPO, get the real keyboard that works!

If you’re reading this review, you are probably considering this keyboard and comparing it to the others that cost half as much. Don’t be cheap with this. You get what you pay for. I have bought cheaper $30 keyboards and they always feel like junk and disconnect frequently. Just get this one, it comes from Microsoft, it is quality, it works, and let’s be honest… it’s only $30 more than the cheapo keyboards. If you can’t afford to pay more than this, maybe you should rethink buying a tablet. Literally, don’t do what I did; what you save in cash, you will lose in time lack of comfort. Do yourself a favor and get this one. I highly recommend it.

    It’s genuine.

The keyboard is a genuine Microsoft product. It’s super lightweight and I love the backlit keyboard, but I’ve found that if it’s not laying completely flat( like if it’s on my lap instead) it doesn’t always work properly which kind of sucks when I’ve paid this much money for it. The connection just isn’t always the best so sometimes it randomly stops working and I have to take it off and just not use it. It definitely could be better but I guess that’s on Microsoft and not the seller here.

    GREAT FEEL

everything feels great – but Bluetooth is missing. I bought this one for my nephew and his wife and a Bluetooth one for myself. They are used to the laptop design so they don’t miss the keyboard away from the computer. I am totally used to a detached keyboard. I wish my bluetooth one felt this good – but mine is the same weight and doesn’t use the GO’s power.if you’re used to a laptop feel this is worth the extra $$ and the MS pens are worth it too for the premium feel. But for casual use the cheaper keyboards and pens are fine.

Works automatically with the Surface Go.

To save some money, we originally got a Surface Go keyboard from the 3rd party. However, that one required its own charging via micro-USB. Plus it didn’t really want to work when we connected it.We then looked at this original Microsoft KB for the Surface Go, and it was on a decent sale, so we went for it. Unlike the 3rd party one, the Microsoft one doesn’t have its own charge, nor does it need to be turned on/off separately. You just connect it and it works. Now, the keys are REALLY close together, and I can’t touch type on it. However, this should be perfect for my 12 YO son who also has a Surface Go (2). And it protects the Surface Go screen which is all I really want for my own tablet.

OEM is best for responsiveness, action and quality

I tried a different, well-rated keyboard that relied on bluetooth despite magnetically connecting to the keyboard port on the bottom of the surface. Although that was good, it had unexpected lags and was sometimes hard to wake. Even the backlighting on that case was a little problematic becuase it was so much brighter around the keys than through them, making it hard to read the keys. So, despite it being double the cost, I went back to the Microsoft OEM product and have not been disappointed! It feels lighter, never lags, has perfect keyboard action and the backlighting is exactly what it should be – you can see the letter/symbol on the key well instead of just the key outline. It is worth the extra cost.

    Wonderful add-on

Full disclosure, I’ve only had it about 2 days!I love the look! Yes poppy red is a weird red/orange color but I have the MS pen in the same color, so it matches. And I found a hard case with a little of this color, so it works. But the keyboard has nice suede like aesthetic. I felt better about spending $90, rme.So I noticed that buying MS add-ons mean you don’t have to have additional chargers etc. And of course it fits perfectly. But not only that, when I use my Go in tablet mode by flipping my ⌨️ over, it does not accidentally type. The other brands will do this, you’ll have to switch them to off in tablet mode. You also may not be able to flip the other brands over comfortably, someone I know just disconnects her ⌨️ to use in tablet mode.It connects automatically as soon as you attach it. And it matches all the MS products. I love it!

Every Surface Go owners should have this

When I got my Surface Go, I tried using it as a stand alone tablet, but never felt comfortable with it. There is so much productivity stuff in Windows that it doesn’t feel right without a keyboard and mouse. So I decided to get this Type cover. With this keyboard cover, I am more productivity and almost can do all office work while on the go. I love that this keyboard does not connect via bluetooth, hence no need to worry about battery, it attaches and gets power directly through a special connection. The keyboard also attaches and detaches very easily using magnets, I can go from office work mode to tablet mode for entertainment in a split second. Overall, I believe that the Surface Go should could with this Type cover by default, because Windows is more productive with these.

    Get the real deal

As an earlier reviewer has stated, the cover/keyboard from Microsoft is much better than any of the “compatible” knockoffs. It hooks up quickly with the tablet and you don’t have to worry about powering the keyboard since it uses the tablet’s power. The cursor also moves more smoothly and precisely, important when you are trying to edit something. Now really happy with my Surface Go as I can use it as tablet, portable laptop on the go.

    Good but…

Everyone said spend the extra money for the Microsoft keypad so it’ll connect better, which it does. But any time I have a word with a double letter like “tt” or “rr” it will not double tap. I have to stop, wait a sec, then tap the letter again. The same happens with the delete button. This is super inconvenient when trying to work. Wondering if this happens to others or if something is wrong with mine.

How Can a Physical Connector Have Intermittent Disconnects?!?

This is an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) unit, new in box from Microsoft. It worked great for a few months, then started to fail intermittently after various random times the Surface resumes from sleep or hibernation. And it was physically connected the whole time!I can understand the pins being misaligned when reconnecting it or debris getting inbetween the terminals, but the keyboard was connected the whole time to the Surface, and it would randomly disconnect. We tried disconnecting and reconnecting it (sometimes after wiping the contacts with alcohol), blowing on the Surface-side recessed contacts, and, if those failed, rebooting the Surface. Usually, pulling the keyboard off and putting it back on a few times would work. Sometimes, we had to wipe the contacts, and if that failed, we blew on the Surface connectors.Just like it was a game console from the 1980s.Disclaimer: I work for Microsoft, but even I ended up going with a Bluetooth keyboard.

Works seamlessly with Surface Go 1, 2, or 3 without needing Bluetooth

One thing I really hate about keyboards for tablets is when they use Bluetooth and have to be charged. I do like the fact that the Type Cover just works and doesn’t need to be charged or anything. It’s responsive, has a backlight, and overall looks nice and is lightweight.
